The purpose of this study was to examine what motivated consumers to purchase the products that they viewed from User Generated Content (UGC) on YouTube. The current research collected 198 YouTube users online survey on their attitude toward UGC, their perceived credibility of UGC, their user activity, parasocial interaction and their purchase intention of the products being reviewed. The results showed these examined variables were positive correlated. Additionally, active users and passive users not only held different attitudes toward UGC and different purchase intentions for the products being reviewed, but also the predictive power was varied.

<P>The article introduces how to validate regression models in the analysis of competing risks. The prediction accuracy of competing risks regression models can be assessed by discrimination and calibration. The area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) or Concordance-index, and calibration plots have been widely used as measures of discrimination and calibration, respectively. One-time splitting method can be used for randomly splitting original data into training and test datasets. However, this method reduces sample sizes of both training and testing datasets, and the results can be different by different splitting processes. Thus, the cross-validation method is more appealing. For time-to-event data, model validation is performed at each analysis time point. In this article, we review how to perform model validation using the riskRegression package in R, along with plotting a nomogram for competing risks regression models using the regplot() package.</P>
Estimating survival distributions for two-stage adaptive treatment strategies: A simulation study

Inference following two-stage adaptive designs (also known as two-stage randomization designs) with survival endpoints usually focuses on estimating and comparing survival distributions for the different treatment strategies. The aim is to identify the treatment strategy(ies) that leads to better survival of the patients. The objectives of this study were to assess the performance three commonly cited methods for estimating survival distributions in two-stage randomization designs. We review three non-parametric methods for estimating survival distributions in two-stage adaptive designs and compare their performance using simulation studies. The simulation studies show that the method based on the marginal mean model is badly affected by high censoring rates and response rate. The other two methods which are natural extensions of the Nelson-Aalen estimator and the Kaplan-Meier estimator have similar performance. These two methods yield survival estimates which have less bias and more precise than the marginal mean model even in cases of small sample sizes. The weighted versions of the Nelson-Aalen and the Kaplan-Meier estimators are less affected by high censoring rates and low response rates. The bias of the method based on the marginal mean model increases rapidly with increase in censoring rate compared to the other two methods. We apply the three methods to a leukemia clinical trial dataset and also compare the results.

Planetary gearboxes are extensively used in mechatronic applications due to their compactness and high reduction ratios. The complex kinematic of such systems and the requirement of low-vibration-gears suggest studying these gearboxes with appropriate dynamic models. To this purpose, a planar lumped parameter model with 18 degrees of freedom was implemented. Model parameters such as the stiffness of the bearings and the gear meshes were calculated using dedicated FEM simulations. Two different gearbox configurations were simulated and experimentally tested. The compared results showed a good agreement. The main goal of the research was to assess the validity of such methodology for the prediction of the system eigenfrequencies. Additionally, from a kinematic analysis of the gearbox it was possible to individuate the self-excitation frequencies. The overlapping of these self-excited frequencies with the eigenfrequencies of the system was individuated as the major cause of the gearbox noise.

<P>Galaxy mergers are important events that can determine the fate of a galaxy by changing its morphology, star formation activity and mass growth. Merger systems have commonly been identified from their disturbed morphologies, and we now can employ integral field spectroscopy to detect and analyze the impact of mergers on stellar kinematics as well. We visually classified galaxy morphology using deep images (mu(r) = 28 mag arcsec(-2)) taken by the Blanco 4 m telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. In this paper we investigate 63 bright (M-r < - 19.3) spectroscopically selected galaxies in Abell 119, of which 53 are early type and 20 show a disturbed morphology by visual inspection. A misalignment between the major axes in the photometric image and the kinematic map is conspicuous in morphologically disturbed galaxies. Our sample is dominated by early-type galaxies, yet it shows a surprisingly tight Tully-Fisher relation except for the morphologically disturbed galaxies which show large deviations. Three out of the eight slow rotators in our sample are morphologically disturbed. The morphologically disturbed galaxies are generally more asymmetric, visually as well as kinematically. Our findings suggest that galaxy interactions, including mergers and perhaps fly-bys, play an important role in determining the orientation and magnitude of a galaxy's angular momentum.</P>

<B>ABSTRACT</B><P>Peripheral blood T-cell responses are used as biomarkers in hepatitis C virus (HCV) vaccine trials. However, it is not clear how T-cell responses in the blood correlate with those in the liver, the infection site. By studying serial liver and blood samples of five vaccinated and five mock-vaccinated control chimpanzees during acute HCV infection, we demonstrate a correlation between HCV-specific CD8 T-cell responses in the blood and molecular and functional markers of T-cell responses in the liver. Thus, HCV-specific CD8 T-cell responses in the blood are valid markers for intrahepatic T-cell activity.</P>
Effects of Passive Transfer Status on Growth Performance in Buffalo Calves

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of passive transfer status, determined by measuring serum immunoglobulin (Ig) concentration 24 hours after parturition, on growth performance in buffalo calves allowed to nurse the dam during the first month of life. Serum Ig concentration 24 hours after birth ranged from 28.1 to 35.9 mg/ml, birth weight ranged from 29 to 41 kg, body weight 30 days after birth ranged from 48.5 to 62.9 kg. The Average Daily Gain (ADG) from birth to day 30 ranged from 448 to 1,089 g/d. Significant linear associations were detected between serum Ig concentration 24 hours after birth and day-30 weight (p< 0.05; $R^2$ = 0.31) and between serum Ig concentration 24 hours after birth and ADG from birth to day 30 (p<0.001; $R^2$ = 0.72). Results indicated that passive transfer status was a significant source of variation in growth performance when buffalo calves nursed the dam. Maximizing passive transfer of immunity by allowing calves to nurse the dam can increase growth performance during the first month of life.
