Research on race and gender stereotypes in the field of cinema and fashion highlights the dysfunction of the social discourse of inclu- sivity and diversity. The international Red Carpet events continue to reproduce a model of femininity and masculinity according to the traditional canon of beauty, but specialized fashion magazines show a certain tendency to change, that reopen the debate about their role in equality. The symbiosis of both scenarios requires knowing what are the beauty codes and gender stereotypes that identify movie stars in the red carpets and checking to what extent fashion magazines evolve and conveys the message of inclusive- ness. The coverage of US Vogue of four red carpets is analysed with the content analysis methodology and then interpreted by a panel of experts. The results show the presence of a stereotyped image of beauty, with the influence and marketing of luxury brands and celebrities, as well as the primacy and continuity of a canon tradi- tional gender binary that identifies women’s fashion magazines. It remains to be seen if, in future red carpets, a more defined trend towards diversity is glimpsed, which also favours a change in strat- egy in the communication of brands and fashion magazines.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production is one of the mainmechanisms used to kill microbes during innate immuneresponse. D-lactic acid, which is augmented during acuteruminal acidosis, reduces platelet activating factor(PAF)-induced ROS production and L-selectin shedding inbovine neutrophils in vitro. This study was conducted toinvestigate whether acute ruminal acidosis induced by acuteoligofructose overload in heifers interferes with ROSproduction and L-selectin shedding in blood neutrophils. Blood neutrophils and plasma were obtained by jugularvenipuncture, while ruminal samples were collected usingrumenocentesis. Lactic acid from plasma and ruminal sampleswas measured by HPLC. PAF-induced ROS production andL-selectin shedding were measured in vitro in bovineneutrophils by a luminol chemiluminescence assay and flowcytometry, respectively. A significant increase in ruminal andplasma lactic acid was recorded in these animals. Specifically,a decrease in PAF-induced ROS production was observed 8 hafter oligofructose overload, and this was sustained until 48 hpost oligofructose overload. A reduction in PAF-inducedL-selectin shedding was observed at 16 h and 32 h postoligofructose overload. Overall, the results indicated thatneutrophil PAF responses were altered in heifers with ruminalacidosis, suggesting a potential dysfunction of the innateimmune response.

This paper presents a backstepping-based adaptive control design for bistable Duffing-Holmes oscillators. The system parameters are assumed to be uncertain, and the controller uses an adaptation rule to estimate them and to achieve an asymptotic tracking performance. The convergence of the tracking and parameter estimation errors is studied using the Contraction theory. The practical utility of the proposed control scheme is illustrated by applying it to a vibration energy harvester, modeled as a bistable Duffing oscillator, to increase its power level under various external excitations. Moreover, a procedure to increase the harvested energy by reducing the control effort is proposed. Simulation studies are carried out to show the validity and feasibility of the proposed controller.

Low-distortion rhombohedral multilayer barium-nickel co-doped BiFeO3 (Bi0.75Ba0.25Fe0.975Ni0.025O3) multiferroic thin films were grown on Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrates by reactive RF magnetron sputtering, as a function of sputtering power. X-ray diffraction showed that Bi0.75Ba0.25Fe0.975Ni0.025O3 multilayer films have a pseudocubic-type structure. Piezoresponse force microscopy demonstrated polarization switching in all films at room temperature. Scanning electron microscopy showed different morphologies depending on the sputtering power used during the deposition process and that the thickness of the film decreases from about 142 nm to 72 nm as the sputtering power decreases. Magnetization results showed that as the thickness of the film decreases, the magnetization of the film increases. Thus, there is a direct relation between the sputtering power, thickness and the magnetization of the film. A direct relation between in-plane residual stress and thin film thickness has been obtained. This causes the main axe of the BO6 octahedra to be tilted from 90 to 45 (from thin-film surface) by a texture crystal volume of 29 and 18% in the (012) and (110) crystallographic planes respectively.
