Enhanced Alternate Hop and Wait Algorithm Against A Jamming Attack in CRNs

Although the frequency spectrum varies, it is very often used by organizations such as the military, civil aviation, ports, and transportation, leaving a very narrow spectrum for personal communication. In this situation, cognitive radio is considered as a solution to improve the liquidity of communication. Indeed, cognitive radio networks analyze available frequencies so that secondary users can communicate without interfering with primary users. In this way, two or more auxiliary users are connected to each other without an appointment, called a rendezvous phenomenon, and many rendezvous algorithms have been developed in the past 20 years. An AHW (Alternate Hop and Wait) algorithm is one of the well-known algorithms that show fast and guaranteed rendezvous performance. In this paper, we show that the AHW algorithm can be significantly degraded under a sophisticated jamming attack. Then we propose an enhanced AHW rendezvous algorithm by adding more random calculations to enhance the robustness against jamming attack. Our numerical results show that the rendezvous probability of the enhanced AHW algorithm is almost steady under jamming attack and close to 40% and the average TTR performances of the enhanced AHW algorithm outperform the original AHW algorithm.
Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita with maxillofacial involvement: a case report

Background Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita is a rare condition that mainly involves the lower limbs, characterized by severe joint deformity and contracture, muscular atrophy, and functional impairment. Its clinical manifestations are heterogenous and may involve the maxillofacial district as well. Case presentation This case report describes a 20-year-old patient with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita with skeletal crossbite, facial asymmetry, reduced mouth opening and absence of lateral mandibular movement on the left side. After clinical evaluation, the following exams were required: postero-anterior cephalometric tracing, head and neck electromyography, computerized axiography, computed tomography scan, and maxillofacial magnetic resonance imaging. Orthognathodontic evaluation indicated skeletal asymmetry, reduced condylar movements on the left side and abnormally low electromyography activity of the masticatory muscles on the left side. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed unilateral left mandibular hypoplasia, hypotrophy, and fatty infiltration of masticatory muscles on the left side, as well as immobility of the left condyle during mouth opening, and hypoplasia of the left articular disk, which was however not displaced. Surgery was not indicated and conservative orthognathodontic treatment with function generating bite was suggested to balance the occlusal plane, as well as stretching exercises. Conclusions A rare case of arthrogryposis multiplex congenita with maxillofacial involvement illustrates that a patient-centred, multidisciplinary approach with accurate diagnosis is required to formulate the best treatment plan. Because of the considerable damage to the masticatory muscles, conservative orthognathodontic therapy may be the best treatment option.

Study Design: Case-control study. Purpose: Analyze association between imaging factors related to the failure of conservative treatment in isolated subaxial cervical facet fractures. Overview of Literature: Facet fracture (F1, F2, and F3 AOSpine) may be stable or unstable depending on clinical and imaging variables, which are not well established. As a result, differences in fracture management lead to differences in surgical or conservative indications, and there is no evidence to predict conservative treatment failure. Methods: Patients were categorized into two groups: six patients (16.2%) with conservative treatment failure (defined as the appearance of neurological symptoms, listhesis >3.5 mm, kyphotic deformation >11°, and/or non-union), and 31 patients (83.7%) with successful conservative management (defined as complete consolidation confirmed by computed tomography [CT] at the 6-month follow-up). All participants were fitted with rigid collars of the Miami type, and standardized follow-up was performed until consolidation or failure. CT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to examine imaging characteristics. Sagittal balance parameters were assessed using CT, and signs of acute disc injury, prevertebral edema, facet synovitis, and interspinous hyperintense signal were assessed using MRI. Results: Thirty-seven patients were diagnosed with unilateral cervical facet fractures between 2009 and 2020. In this sample, acute disc injury had a significative association to failure of conservative treatment in F2 and F3 AOSpine facet fractures, 100% of the failure group presented with traumatic disc injury compared to 9.7% of the successful group, for the other variables: prevertebral edema, 83.7% vs. 41.9%; facet synovitis, 100% vs. 77.4%; and interspinous hyperintensity, 71.4% vs. 38.7%, respectively. With conservative management, all F1 fractures healed successfully. Conservative treatment failed in 20% of F2 fractures and 50% of F3 fractures, respectively. In terms of cervical sagittal balance parameters, there were no significant differences between groups. Conclusions: Conservative management was successful in all F1 fractures. In F2 and F3 types, there was a significant association between acute disc injury and conservative treatment failure.

Phase-velocity spectra of background internal friction in polycrystalline solids

The phase-velocity spectrum of background internal friction has been shown to be a material property. The shape of such spectra seems to be dierent, in particular, for monophasic (e.g. pure metals) and multiphase materials (typically composites and rocks). Anexplanation for such dierence, as yet not known, is proposed in the present work. All spectra are interpreted to be a combination oftwo or more simple relaxation sources, each emanating from point defect diusion with a specic diusion scale length and inducingdissipation into one another. The single dissipation sources are assumed to combine with the laws of linear circuits in parallel. In thecase of monophasic metals a model with two sources of dissipation, one in the microstructure and the other in the lattice, ts theat spectra, a continuous-source model is suggested.. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. <P/><P>In this work, we introduce a free-standing, vertically aligned conductive polypyrrole (Ppy) architecture that can serve as a high-capacity drug reservoir. This novel geometric organization of Ppy provides a new platform for improving the drug-loading efficiency. Most importantly, we present the first formal evidence that an impregnated drug (dexamethasone, DEX) can be released on demand by a focal, pulsatile electromagnetic field (EMF). This remotely controlled, on–off switchable polymer system provides a framework for implantable constructs that can be placed in critical areas of the body without any physical contact (such as percutaneous electrodes) with the Ppy, contributing to a low “foreign body” footprint. We demonstrate this possibility by using a BV-2 microglia culture model in which reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression was attenuated in response to DEX released from EMF-stimulated Ppy.</P>
