Feasibility of Emotional Freedom Techniques in Patients with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: a pilot study

        Choi Yujin,Kim Yunna,Kwon Do-Hyung,Choi Sunyoung,Choi Young-Eun,Ahn Eun Kyoung,Cho Seung-Hun,Kim Hyungjun 대한약침학회 2024 Journal of pharmacopuncture Vol.27 No.1

Objectives: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a prevalent mental health condition, and techniques using sensory stimulation in processing traumatic memories have gained attention. The Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a psychotherapy that combines tapping on acupoints with exposure to cognitive reframing. This pilot study aimed to assess the feasibility of EFT as a treatment for PTSD by answering the following research questions: 1) What is the compliance and completion rate of patients with PTSD with regard to EFT protocol? Is the dropout rate reasonable? 2) Is the effect size of EFT protocol for PTSD sufficient to justify a future trial? Methods: Thirty participants diagnosed with PTSD were recruited. They received weekly EFT sessions for five weeks, in which they repeated a statement acknowledging the problem and accepting themselves while tapping the SI3 acupoint on the side of their hand. PTSD symptoms were evaluated using the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) before and after the intervention. Results: Of the 30 PTSD patients (mean age: 34.1 ± 9.1, 80% female), 96.7% showed over 80% compliance to the EFT sessions, and 86.7% completed the entire study process. The mean PCL-5 total score decreased significantly after the intervention, with a large effect size (change from baseline: –14.33 [95% CI: –19.79, –8.86], p < 0.0001, d = 1.06). Conclusion: The study suggests that EFT is a feasible treatment for PTSD, with high session compliance and low dropout rates. The effect size observed in this study supports the need for a larger trial in the future to further investigate EFT as a treatment for PTSD. However, the lack of a control group and the use of a self-rated questionnaire for PTSD symptoms are limi

      • Microwave-assisted synthesis of luminescent and biocompatible lysine-based carbon quantum dots

        Choi, Yujin,Thongsai, Nichaphat,Chae, Ari,Jo, Seongho,Kang, Eun Bi,Paoprasert, Peerasak,Park, Sung Young,In, Insik Elsevier 2017 Journal of industrial and engineering chemistry Vol.47 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Water-soluble carbon quantum dots presenting strong blue photoluminescence with the quantum yield up to 23.3% are simply prepared by microwave treatment of lysine as a building block within 5min in household microwave oven. The formation of lysine-based carbon quantum dots is estimated to proceed through the microwave induced thermal polyamidation and the subsequent carbonization reaction. More importantly, the control experiments using the other amino acids having linear structures reveals that the branched molecular structure of lysine (AB2 type polyamidation monomer) is one of prerequisite points to obtain strongly luminescent carbon quantum dots with high mass yield. • Simple Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Amphiphilic Carbon Quantum Dots from A3/B2 Polyamidation Monomer Set

        Choi, Yujin,Jo, Seongho,Chae, Ari,Kim, Young Kwang,Park, Jeong Eun,Lim, Donggun,Park, Sung Young,In, Insik American Chemical Society 2017 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.9 No.33

<P>Highly fluorescent and amphiphilic carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were prepared by microwave-assisted pyrolysis of citric acid and 4,7,10-trioxa-1,13-tridecanediamine (TTDDA), which functioned as an A(3) and B-2 polyamidation type monomer set. Gram quantities of fluorescent CQDs. were easily obtained within 5 min of microwave heating using a household microwave oven. Because of the dual role of TTDDA, both as a constituting monomer and as a surface passivation agent, TTDDA-based CQDs showed a high fluorescence quantum yield of 29% and amphiphilic solubility in various polar and nonpolar solvents. These properties enable the wide application of TTDDA-based CQDs as nontoxic bioimaging agents, nanofillets for polymer composites, and down-converting layers for enhancing the efficiency of Si solar cells.</P>

5-Hydroxytryptophan Reduces Levodopa-Induced Dyskinesia via Regulating AKT/mTOR/S6K and CREB/ΔFosB Signals in a Mouse Model of Parkinson’s Disease

        Choi Yujin,Huh Eugene,Lee Seungmin,Kim Jin Hee,Park Myoung Gyu,Seo Seung-Yong,Kim Sun Yeou,Oh Myung Sook 한국응용약물학회 2023 Biomolecules & Therapeutics(구 응용약물학회지) Vol.31 No.4

Long-term administration of levodopa (L-DOPA) to patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) commonly results in involuntary dyskinetic movements, as is known for L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia (LID). 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) has recently been shown to alleviate LID; however, no biochemical alterations to aberrant excitatory conditions have been revealed yet. In the present study, we aimed to confirm its anti-dyskinetic effect and to discover the unknown molecular mechanisms of action of 5-HTP in LID. We made an LID-induced mouse model through chronic L-DOPA treatment to 6-hydroxydopamine-induced hemi-parkinsonian mice and then administered 5-HTP 60 mg/kg for 15 days orally to LID-induced mice. In addition, we performed behavioral tests and analyzed the histological alterations in the lesioned part of the striatum (ST). Our results showed that 5-HTP significantly suppressed all types of dyskinetic movements (axial, limb, orolingual and locomotive) and its effects were similar to those of amantadine, the only approved drug by Food and Drug Administration. Moreover, 5-HTP did not affect the efficacy of L-DOPA on PD motor manifestations. From a molecular perspective, 5-HTP treatment significantly decreased phosphorylated CREB and ΔFosB expression, commonly known as downstream factors, increased in LID conditions. Furthermore, we found that the effects of 5-HTP were not mediated by dopamine1 receptor (D1)/DARPP32/ERK signaling, but regulated by AKT/mTOR/S6K signaling, which showed different mechanisms with amantadine in the denervated ST. Taken together, 5-HTP alleviates LID by regulating the hyperactivated striatal AKT/mTOR/S6K and CREB/ΔFosB signaling.

Public Service Motivation in the Korean Context: Testing Attraction-Selection and Socialization Effects with Panel Data

        Yujin Choi 한국인사행정학회 2020 한국인사행정학회보 Vol.19 No.1

This paper examines the effect of work values including PSM on sector choice and the change of work values through the socialization process in the Korean context. By doing so, this study disentangles the attraction-selection effect from the socialization effect by utilizing panel data. Our findings are consistent with recent studies using panel data that show that PSM does not predict actual employment in the public sector. The results indicate that extrinsic work values such as job security and recognition from others are significant variables affecting public sector employment. Regarding socialization, we find no evidence that PSM is socialized through employment in the public sector, but there is evidence that public sector employees increase their work values of recognition from others after employment compared to those in the private sector. Contributions to existing knowledge and implications are discussed.

      • Color Guidelines for Bukchon Hanok Village on Alley Landscape - focused on Gamgodang-gil

        YuJin Choi,SuJin Han,YoungMin Song 한국색채학회 2017 AIC 2017 Jeju Vol.2017 No.10

Gamgodang-gil is located in Bukchon Hanok Village in Seoul and acts as the entrance of Bukchon Hanok Village. There are specialized local brands that create the public environment. However, it is seen that the scenery of the alley was inferior to the main road. Therefore, a color guideline is suggested for Gamgodanggil and the scenery of the alley, based on an idea that Gamgodan-gil is the major resource to build an identity of brands on Bukchon Hanok Village. There are four ways of experiments on the guideline. The first way is to investigate literature investigation regarding Bukchon. The second way is to do previous exploration and conduct survey at Gamgodan-gil. Then, the third way is to analyze the current colors, and suggest a color palette for the colors of the alley. Finally, the last way is to suggest designs of signs for the scenery of the alley. The results of the experiment are followings: image adjectives deducted from the survey are “warm,” “glamorous,” and “familiar,” and current dominance colors are achromatic colors, yellow and blue affiliations. The suggestion of designs of the signs is divided into Korean-style houses and non-Korean-style houses. Therefore, this experiment is meaningful as a mean of systematizing colors, sustaining consistency with original brands of Bukchon.

Grave-to-cradle: human embryonic lineage tracing from the postmortem body

Choi Seock Hwan,Ku Eu Jeong,Choi Yujin Angelina,Oh Ji Won 생화학분자생물학회 2023 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.55 No.-

Curiosity concerning the process of human creation has been around for a long time. Relevant questions seemed to be resolved with the knowledge of how cells divide after fertilization obtained through in vitro fertilization experiments. However, we still do not know how human life is created at the cellular level. Recently, the value of cadavers as a resource from which to obtain “normal” cells and tissues has been established, and human research using postmortem bodies has attracted growing scientific attention. As the human genome can be analyzed at the level of nucleotides through whole-genome sequencing, individual cells in a postmortem body can be traced back to determine what developmental processes have transpired from fertilization. These retrospective lineage tracing studies have answered several unsolved questions on how humans are created. This review covers the methodologies utilized in lineage tracing research in a historical context and the conceptual basis for reconstructing the division history of cells in a retrospective manner using postzygotic somatic variants in postmortem tissue. We further highlight answers that postmortem research could potentially address and discuss issues that wait to be solved in the future.

패션소재에 따른 그레이 컬러 감성이미지와 선호도

        최유진(Choi, YuJin),이윤진(Lee, YounJin) 한국색채학회 2017 한국색채학회 논문집 Vol.31 No.1

As consumer"s standards of living rise, sensibility has had powerful impacts on consumers" decisions. Especially, it is seen that the value of products increases due to color images arousing emotions, which reflect several senses. Particularly, gray is an important standardized color not only for fashion but also numbers of the design field. Therefore, it is expected to feel several images with emotional arousal from gray colors visualized through fashion materials and we will evaluate the purchase preference as well and expect it to be useful in the actual fashion industry scene. To select adjectives of images with emotional arousal for evaluating the experiment of the images, we selected and extracted final images of sensibility from surveys on domestic fashion sites online. Experimental group for evaluation experiment was divided into color expert group and general person group. Seven materials were selected based on the standards that represent four seasons. The stage of gray color is divided into high, mid, and low brightness based on Munsell Gray Scale System. The evaluation scale used the Semantic Discriminant scale method (SD) and the emotional image was prepared in five stages to evaluate the material. Results from the experiment of evaluating the images showed that the color expert group and the general group felt various emotions, but the color expert group felt a more diverse emotional image. Especially, the materials with high brightness of feeling showed the most various emotional images regardless of group. There was a difference in purchase preference between the two groups to the brightness level by fashion material. Hence, the research suggests a useful guide for designing fashion products by presenting several sensibilities and preferences regarding gray color which is one of the representative standard colors in fashion fields.
