Direct ethanol production from dextran industrial waste water by Zymomonas mobilis

The direct production of ethanol from dextran industrial waste water was investigated by using Zymomonasmobilis via batch and semi-continuous fermentation mode. In batch fermentation, pretreated waste water (unsterilizedand sterilized), pH value (3.8 and 6.0), and Mg2+(with and without) was compared with OD600, sugar and ethanol con-centration. After 24 h fermentation, sugar in the dextran waste water was almost exhausted, and the amount of ethanolaccumulated reached 24.33-29.92 g/l, which is nearly 99% of the theoretical yield of ethanol. Kinetic parameters ofZ. mobilis in batch fermentation were also investigated. The raw dextran waste water was also used in semi-continuousfermentation. After 48 h fermentation, the production of ethanol was 28.65 g/l. These results indicated that dextranwaste water may be used as a candidate substrate and Z. mobilis could convert the raw material into ethanol directly.

The paper addresses the issue of the working point migration in non-linear permanent magnets (PM). Starting from the considerations of energy, a novel working-point migration (WPM) model is proposed which can be incorporated into a magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC). The basic theory of working-point migration is discussed which focus on the second quadrant of the magnetic hysteresis loop. The calculation method of the WPM model is proposed based on the relationship between the recoil line model and the affine transformation hysteresis loop. The establishment method for the resultant working point is described by combining the demagnetization curve and the recoil line models in the minor hysteresis loop. The static characteristic of a bistable polarized magnetic system (BPMS), as used in actuators, is calculated using the magnetic circuit method based on the WPM, while a finite element model (FEM) is also derived. The calculation method for the WPM used in MEC is also discussed. The WPM based MEC model yields reasonable results, compared with FEM, of the latching force but with much faster calculation speeds. Furthermore, the working-point state of the PM is clearly illustrated. The test system of the BPMS prototype is established. The test data and WPM model calculation results are compared. It is shown that the WPM model provides accurate prediction of static characteristics of an electromagnetic system.
ALLOCATION CONTROL ALGORITHMS DESIGN AND COMPARISON BASED ON DISTRIBUTED DRIVE ELECTRIC VEHICLES

For a distributed drive electric vehicle (DDEV) which is equipped with redundant actuators, allocation control is a key technique. Three different allocation control algorithms are designated with fixed efficiency matrix, dynamic efficiency matrix, and direct yaw moment distribution, respectively. All these algorithms are applied in a vehicle stability control system with hierarchical control structure and evaluated from three aspects, namely, control precision, real-time characteristics, and control energy. Comparison results demonstrate that the algorithm with dynamic efficiency matrix has the best comprehensive performance, which is also validated in field tests based on a DDEV equipped with four motors.

Background: High expression levels of the TTK gene are closely related to tumor occurrence and poor prognosis, as confirmed by some studies. Our study explored the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients with different TTK levels and the possible pathological mechanism of TTK in LUAD. Methods: We extensively searched literature databases and high-throughput sequencing databases and included relevant literature or datasets in the meta-analysis according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) related to TTK expression were calculated, publication bias was assessed, and sensitivity tests were performed. We also compared the relationship between cancer immune infiltrating cells and tumor mutation burden (TMB) in patients with different TTK expression levels via bioinformatics analysis. The half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of some chemotherapeutic and targeted therapy drugs were calculated. The potential biological functions or pathways associated with different TTK expression levels were determined by gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). Results: The meta-analysis revealed that higher TTK expression level was significantly associated with poor prognosis in LUAD patients, both in overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). The expression level of TTK was significantly correlated with presence of some immune cells and TMB. Tumors with higher TTK expression levels were mostly enriched for the cell cycle, DNA replication and homologous recombination pathways. In addition, patients with different TTK expression levels were differently sensitive to some antitumor drugs. Conclusion: TTK may be a promising prognostic biomarker for LUAD and is worthy of further investigation.

To isolate novel and useful microbial enzymes from uncultured gastrointestinal microorganisms, a fecal microbial metagenomic library of the pygmy loris was constructed. The library was screened for amylolytic activity, and 8 of 50,000 recombinant clones showed amylolytic activity. Subcloning and sequence analysis of a positive clone led to the identification a novel gene (amyPL) coding for α-amylase. AmyPL was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) and the purified AmyPL was enzymatically characterized. This study is the first to report the molecular and biochemical characterization of a novel α-amylase from a gastrointestinal metagenomic library.
Mechanical and Rheological Properties of Isotactic Polypropylene/Bacterial Cellulose Composites

To improve the mechanical performance of isotactic polypropylene (iPP), the iPP/bacterial cellulose (BC) composites were prepared. The tensile and impact strength of the composites were maximized (38.21MPa and 2.812 KJ/m²) when maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP) content was 7 wt%, the tensile modulus was increased with the higher MAPP content and the maximum value was 1858.39 MPa. Compared with pure iPP, the tensile strength, impact strength and tensile modulus increased by 6.32 MPa, 0.75 KJ/m², and 279.68 MPa, respectively. Compared with the control group (the sample which added BC but no MAPP added), the tensile strength, impact strength and tensile modulus increased by 5.61 MPa, 0.692 KJ/m², and 11.24 MPa, respectively. Moreover, the elongation at break of the composites was decreased. Besides, the rheological results and SEM photographs indicated that with the addition of MAPP, the compatibility of the composites was improved greatly, which demonstrated the increase of the mechanical properties of the composites.

Adverse effects in the measured gamma spectrum caused by radioactive statistical fluctuations, gamma ray scattering, and electronic noise can be reduced by energy spectrum denoising. Wavelet threshold denoising can be used to perform multi-scale and multi-resolution analysis on noisy signals with small root mean square errors and high signal-to-noise ratios. However, in traditional wavelet threshold denoising methods, there are signal oscillations in hard threshold denoising and constant deviations in soft threshold denoising. An improved wavelet threshold calculation method and threshold processing function are proposed in this paper. The improved threshold calculation method takes into account the influence of the number of wavelet decomposition layers and reduces the deviation caused by the inaccuracy of the threshold. The improved threshold processing function can be continuously guided, which solves the discontinuity of the traditional hard threshold function, avoids the constant deviation caused by the traditional soft threshold method. The examples show that the proposed method can accurately denoise and preserves the characteristic signals well in the gamma energy spectrum
CBAbench: An AutoCAD-based Dynamic Geometric Constraint System

In this paper, an integration framework of Geometric Constraint Solving Engine and AutoCAD is presented, and a dynamic geometric constraint system is introduced. According to inherent orientation features of geometric entities and various Object Snap results of AutoCAD, the' proposed system can automatically construct an under-constrained geometric constraint model during interactive drawing. And then the directed constraint graph in a geometric constraint model is realtime modified in order to produce an optimal constraint solving sequence. Due to the open object-oriented characteristics of AutoCAD, a set of user-defined entities including basic geometric elements and graphics constraint relations are defined through derivation. And the custom-made Object Reactor and Command Reactor are also constructed. Several powerful characteristics are achieved based on these user-defined entities and reactors, including synchronously processing geometric constraint information while saving and opening DWG files, visual constraint relations, and full adaptability to Undo/Redo operations. These characteristics of the proposed system can help the designers more easily manage geometric entities and constraint relations between them.

The performance of mFe/Cu/O3 and mFe0/O3 processes was comparatively investigated through optimized the key operational parameters for degradation of p-nitrophenol (PNP). The COD removal attained by mFe/Cu/O3 process was higher than that of mFe0/O3 process under the corresponding conditions. Additionally, under the optimal conditions, the COD removal (93.6%) obtained by mFe/Cu/O3 process was more than twice of the sum (44.6%) of that by ozone (35.3%) and mFe/Cu alone (9.3%). Finally, the key active materials in mFe/Cu/O3 system, degradation pathway of PNP and reaction mechanism of mFe/Cu/O3 process were proposed according to the analysis results of intermediate products, SEM–EDS and XRD.
