NMDA receptor-dependent long-term depression (LTD) in the hippocampus is a well-known form of synaptic plasticity that has been linked to different cognitive functions. Although the underlying mechanisms remain unclear, this form of LTD cannot be induced by low-frequency stimulation (LFS) in adult mice. In this study, we found that LFS-induced LTD was not easily induced in adult animals and was age dependent. Interestingly, the level of the 5-HT1A receptor was correspondingly increased and exhibited an inverse correlation with the magnitude of LFS-LTD during development. Knockout or pharmacological inhibition of the 5-HT1A receptor reversed impaired LFS-LTD in adult mice (P60), while activation or inhibition of this receptor disturbed or enhanced LFS-LTD in adolescent mice (P21), respectively. Furthermore, the astrocytic 5-HT1A receptor in the hippocampus predominantly mediated age-dependent LFS-LTD through enhancing GABAergic neurotransmission. Finally, fear memory extinction differed among the above conditions. These observations enrich our knowledge of LTD at the cellular level and suggest a therapeutic approach for LTD-related psychiatric disorders.

Four isostructural amino-acid-based polyoxomolybdates, {$M(H_2O)_3(pro)Mo_4O_{13}$}$_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ (pro = proline, M = Co (1), Ni (2), Cu (3), Zn (4)), have been synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR spectrum, TG analysis. The structures of 1-4 are layered networks built up from {$Mo_8O_{26}(pro)_2$}$^{4-}$ units and {$M(H_2O)_3O_3$} octahedra, the uncoordinated water molecules occupying the interlayer regions.

Experiments and simulations were used to investigate the effect of a range of engine operating parameters and fuel characteristics on the particle size and particle number (PN) concentration at low speed and idle speed condition. The occurrence, size, and concentration of particles were tested against a range of parameters including start of injection (SOI), common rail pressure, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) ratio and load. The results showed that the homogeneity of the mixture had the greatest impact on particle size and number concentration. The performance of particle is different at different levels of load. The particle were of nucleation mode at idle condition, and the cold idle particles had a slightly larger diameter than those produced at hot idle. By using the diesel and under high load, at EGR ratios of less than 20 %, most particles were of nucleation mode. At EGR ratios exceeding 20 %, nucleation-mode particles were gradually replaced by accumulation-mode particles. At EGR ratios above 30 %, most particles were of the accumulation mode. Under the same load, gasoline compression ignition produced particles of smaller size and reduced particulate mass (PM). The use of gasoline extended ignition delay, as the high volatility and octane number of the fuel improved the homogeneity of the mixture. Finally, a linear relationship was found between PM and PN. The relative contribution of the different factors to the formation of nucleationor accumulation-mode particles was investigated.

In a previous study, we found that zinc oxide (ZnO) samples under different hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) treatment durations show the ability to dramatically rectify a diode’s behavior. In this study, the H2O2 mechanism is examined by grazing incidence x-ray diffraction (GIXRD) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. In GIXRD, a diffraction peak (111) from the zinc peroxide (ZnO2) was observed for the films grown at low temperatures. The XPS depth profiles of the core O1s clearly indicated oxidation, and an interfacial ZnO2 layer covered the ZnO surface via the H2O2 treatment. The Schottky barrier heights of the treated and untreated samples were illustrated using energy band diagrams.
Influence of Magnetic Slot Wedge on Parameter and Loss Distribution of High Voltage Induction Motor

Owing to the stator open slot structure of the high-voltage motor, the magnetic field distribution in the motor will be uneven, and the performance of the motor will deteriorate. When the slots are embedded with magnetic material slot wedges, the magnetic field of the motor will be changed. In this article, taking a 10 kV/1000 kW high-voltage induction motor (HVIM) as the prototype, the two-dimensional finite element models are established, the eff ect of magnetic slot wedge (MSW) on HVIM was analyzed. First, by establishing the air-gap permeance function, the infl uence of magnetic slot wedge on the air gap magnetic field is analyzed, the influence mechanism of magnetic slot wedge on tooth harmonic magnetic field is revealed. In addition, the effect of magnetic slot wedge on excitation inductance, slot leakage resistance, and winding inductance of HVIM is analyzed in detail, the variation of parameters with different relative permeability of slot wedge is summarized, the changes in the motor starting performance had further discussed. Finally, the influence of the slot wedge permeability on motor losses is studied, the distribution of core loss is obtained by establishing the motor segmenting model, and the various mechanisms of core losses in different regions are revealed. The findings provide the guidelines and theoretical basis for the rational selection of magnetic slot wedges.

Transparent and efficient poly-ZnO ultraviolet Schottky diodes grown at different temperatures with indium-tin-oxide (ITO) as the metallic contact layer were fabricated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)applied as a surface treatment at 70 ℃ for 20 min. Analysis via field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) demonstrated that the ZnO films underwent gradual oxidation and that H2O2 treatment resulted in an interfacial ZnO2 layer that covered the ZnO surface. IeV measurements indicated that the ideality factor and the Schottky barrier height improved with increasing shunt resistance, and the trade-off between film quality and the degree of oxidation revealed that films grown at 400 ℃ exhibited the best diode characteristics.

The high-speed electrical machine as a critical power conversion unit in the micro gas turbine generation system needs to integrate the functions of starter and generator, which makes the control system of the machine more complex. In order to simplify the control system and improve the starting speed of the generation system with the help of the intrinsic starting ability of the machine, a high-speed starter–generator with multilayer composite solid rotor is proposed. The machine with the proposed solid rotor can realize self-start when it works in starting mode. Taking a 40 kW 20,000r/min high-speed permanent magnet machine as an example, the fi nite element model of the machine is established. The infl uence of driving voltage on the machine starting performance is analyzed and the start-up time, locked rotor parameters of the machine under diff erent driving voltages are further studied. Furthermore, in order to reveal the infl uence mechanism of driving voltage on the machine starting performance, the starting torque is decoupled and the infl uence of driving voltage on the decoupled torques is studied. Finally, the machine prototype is tested, and the correctness of the fi nite element model is verifi ed by comparing the experimental data with the fi nite element calculation data.

A DNA fragment containing 2,079 base pairs from Bacillus circulans CGMCC 1416 was cloned using degenerate PCR and inverse PCR. An open reading frame containing 981 bp was identified that encoding 326 amino acids residues, including a putative signal peptide of 31 residues. The deduced amino acid sequence showed the highest identity (68.1%) with endo-β-1,4-D-mannanase from Bacillus circulans strain K-1 of the glycoside hydrolase family 5 (GH5). The sequence encoding the mature protein was cloned into the pET-22b(+) vector and expressed in Escherichia coli as a recombinant fusion protein containing an N-terminal hexahistidine sequence. The fusion protein was purified by Ni2+ affinity chromatography and its hexahistidine tag cleaved to yield a 31-kDa β-mannanase having a specific activity of 481.55 U/mg. The optimal activity of the purified protein, MANB48, was at 58℃ and pH 7.6. The hydrolysis product on substrate locust bean gum included a monosaccharide and mainly oligosaccharides. The recombinant MANB48 may be of potential use in the feed industry.
Colorectal Cancer Mortality Characteristics and Predictions in China, 1991-2011

Background: To identify the epidemiological characteristics of colorectal cancer mortality in China during the period of 1991-2011, and forecast the future five-year trend. Materials and Methods: Mortality data for colorectal cancer in China from 1991 to 2011 was used to describe epidemiological characteristics in terms of age group, gender, and rural/urban residence. Trend surface analysis was performed to analyze the geographical distribution of colorectal cancer. Four models including curve estimation, time series modeling, gray modeling and joinpoint regression were applied to forecast the trends for the future five years. Results: Since 1991 the colorectal cancer mortality rate increased yearly, and our results showed that the trend would continue to increase in the ensuing 5 years. The mortality rate in males was higher than that of females and the rate in urban areas was higher than in rural areas. The mortality rate was relatively low for individuals less than 60 years of age, but increased dramatically afterwards. People living in the northeastern China provinces or in eastern China had a higher mortality rate for colorectal cancer than those living in middle or western China provinces. Conclusions: The steadily increasing mortality of colorectal cancer in China will become a substantial public health burden in the foreseeable future. For this increasing trend to be controlled, further efforts should concentrate on educating the general public to increase prevention and early detection by screening. More effective prevention and management strategies are needed in higher mortality areas (Eastern parts of China) and high-risk populations (60+ years old).
