Computational Wind Engineering has rapidly grown in the last decades and it is currently reaching a relatively mature state. The prediction of wind loading by means of numerical simulations has been proved effective in many research studies and applications to design practice are rapidly spreading. Despite such success, caution in the use of simulations for wind loading assessment is still advisable and, indeed, required. The computational burden and the know-how needed to run highfidelity simulations is often unavailable and the possibility to use simplified models extremely attractive. In this paper, the applicability of some well-known 2D unsteady RANS models, particularly the k-ω SST, in the aerodynamic characterization of extruded bodies with bluff sections is investigated. The main focus of this paper is on the drag coefficient prediction. The topic is not new, but, in the authors' opinion, worth a careful revisitation. In fact, despite their great technical relevance, a systematic study focussing on sections which manifest a fully detached flow configuration has been overlooked. It is here shown that the considered 2D RANS exhibit a pathological behaviour, failing to reproduce the transition between reattached and fully detached flow regime.

The σS subunit of RNA polymerase is a central regulator which governs the expression of a host of stationary phase-induced and osmotically regulated genes in Gram-negative bacteria. The Pseudomonas putida rpoS gene is transcribed as a monocistronic rpoS mRNA with a 368 nucleotide-long 5’untranslated region (5’UTR). In this study, we investigate the posttranscriptional control of RpoS synthesis using rpoS-lacZ transcriptional and translational fusions consisting of the native promoter and deletions of 5’ UTR or insertion into UTR. The differing activity of constructed translational fusions strongly indicated that the 5’ UTR is involved in the translational regulation of RpoS expression in the stationary phase. The results obtained herein demonstrated that the structure of UTR performs an important function in the translational regulation of the rpoS gene.
Colonic Postpolypectomy Bleeding Is Related to Polyp Size and Heparin Use

Background/Aims: We studied factors influencing colon postpolypectomy bleeding (PPB), with a focus on antithrombotic and anticoagulation therapy. Methods: We conducted a retrospective case-control study of all patients who underwent polypectomy at our tertiary referral center in Italy between 2007 and 2014. Polyp characteristics (number of polyps removed per patient, size, morphology, location, resection technique, prophylactic hemostasis methods) and patient characteristics (age, sex, comorbidities, medication) were analyzed. Results: The case and control groups included 118 and 539 patients, respectively. The two groups differed in the frequency of comorbidities (69% vs. 40%, p=0.001), polyps removed (27% vs. 18%, p=0.02), and use of heparin therapy (23% vs. 1%, p<0.001). A total of 279 polyps in the case group and 966 in the control group were nonpedunculated (69% vs. 81%, p=0.01) and measured ≥10 mm (78% vs. 32%, p=0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that polyps ≥10 mm (odds ratio [OR], 6.1; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.3–15.5), administration of heparin (OR, 16.5; 95% CI, 6.2–44), comorbidity (OR, 2.3; 95% CI, 1.4–3.9), and presence of ≥2 risk factors (OR, 3.2; 95% CI, 1.7–6.0) were associated with PPB. Conclusions: The incidence of PPB increases with polyp size ≥10 mm, heparin use, comorbidity, and presence of ≥2 risk factors.

The microbiomes of two important rice cultivars in Vietnam which differ by their susceptibility to the bacterial leaf blight (BLB) disease were analyzed through 16S rRNA amplicon technology. A higher number of operational taxonomic units and alpha-diversity indices were shown in the BLB-resistant LA cultivar than in the BLB-susceptible TB cultivar. The BLB pathogen Xanthomonas was scantly found (0.003%) in the LA cultivar, whereas was in a significantly higher ratio in the TB cultivar (1.82%), reflecting the susceptibility to BLB of these cultivars. Of special interest was the genus Acholeplasma presented in the BLB-resistant LA cultivar at a high relative abundance (22.32%), however, was minor in the BLB-sensitive TB cultivar (0.09%), raising a question about its roles in controlling the Xanthomonas low in the LA cultivar. It is proposed that Acholeplasma once entered the host plant would hamper other phytopathogens, i.e. Xanthomonas, by yet unknown mechanisms, of which the triggering of the host plants to produce secondary metabolites against pathogens could be a testable hypothesis.

Correlated Λt pairs from the absorption of K<sup>-</sup> at rest in light nuclei

Novel data from the K<SUB>stop</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>A absorption reaction in light nuclei <SUP>6,7</SUP>Li and <SUP>9</SUP>Be are presented. The study aimed at finding Λt correlations. Regardless of A, the Λt pairs are preferentially emitted in opposite directions. Reaction modeling predominantly assigns to the K<SUB>stop</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>A->Λt(N)A<SUP>'</SUP> direct reactions the emission of the Λt pairs whose yield is found to range from 10<SUP>-3</SUP> to 10<SUP>-4</SUP>/K<SUB>stop</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>. The experiment was performed with the FINUDA spectrometer at DAΦNE (LNF).

The inelastic charge exchange reaction (K<SUP>+</SUP>, K<SUP>0</SUP>) on <SUP>7</SUP>Li has been experimentally investigated close to threshold with the FINUDA spectrometer at the e<SUP>+</SUP>e<SUP>-</SUP> collider DAΦNE by searching for K<SUB>S</SUB><SUP>0</SUP> decays. It is the first time that this process has been studied at such low momentum. An upper limit of 2.0 mb (at 95% confidence level) has been measured for the total cross section.

Correlated Λd pairs emitted after the absorption of negative kaons at rest K<SUB>stop</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>A->ΛdA<SUP>'</SUP> in light nuclei <SUP>6</SUP>Li and <SUP>12</SUP>C are studied. Λ-hyperons and deuterons are found to be preferentially emitted in opposite directions. The Λd invariant mass spectrum of <SUP>6</SUP>Li shows a bump whose mass is 3251+/-6 MeV/c<SUP>2</SUP>. The bump mass (binding energy), width and yield are reported. The appearance of a bump is discussed in the realm of the [K@?3N] clustering process in nuclei. The experiment was performed with the FINUDA spectrometer at DAΦNE (LNF).
New results on mesonic weak decay of <i>p</i>-shell <i>Λ</i>-hypernuclei

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The FINUDA experiment performed a systematic study of the charged mesonic weak decay channel of <I>p</I>-shell <I>Λ</I>-hypernuclei. Negatively charged pion spectra from mesonic decay were measured with magnetic analysis for the first time for <SUP>7</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>Li, <SUP>9</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>Be, <SUP>11</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>B and <SUP>15</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>N. The shape of the <SUP>π−</SUP> spectra was interpreted through a comparison with pion distorted wave calculations that take into account the structure of both hypernucleus and daughter nucleus. Branching ratios <SUB>Γ<SUP>π−</SUP></SUB>/<SUB>Γtot</SUB> were derived from the measured spectra and converted to <SUP>π−</SUP> decay rates <SUB>Γ<SUP>π−</SUP></SUB> by means of known or extrapolated total decay widths <SUB>Γtot</SUB> of <I>p</I>-shell <I>Λ</I>-hypernuclei. Based on these measurements, the spin-parity assignment 1/<SUP>2+</SUP> for <SUP>7</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>Li and 5/<SUP>2+</SUP> for <SUP>11</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>B ground-state are confirmed and a spin-parity 3/<SUP>2+</SUP> for <SUP>15</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>N ground-state is assigned for the first time.</P>
