Objective: To assess the prognostic value of the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII)in patients with vulvar cancer. Methods: Data of 130 consecutive patients who underwent primary surgical resection forvulvar cancer at the Medical University of Vienna between 1999 and 2018 was retrospectivelyanalyzed. The SII was defined as platelets × neutrophils/lymphocytes as previously described. Its prognostic value on disease-specific survival (DSS) and overall survival (OS) was evaluatedby univariate log-rank tests and multivariable cox regression models. Prediction accuracy wasassessed by receiver operating characteristics curves and Youden's J statistics. A Hosmer Lemeshow test was performed to confirm the model's goodness of fit. Results: A pre-therapeutic high serum SII (>866.4) was associated with advancedInternational Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO)-stage. In univariate survivalanalysis, a high SII was associated with both DSS (p<0.001) and OS (p=0.001). A multivariatecox regression model confirmed the prognostic value of SII regarding DSS (p<0.001) and OS(p=0.014) independently from patients' age and FIGO stage. Conclusions: Pretherapeutic SII may serve as a promising predictor for survival in patientswith vulvar cancer. After clinical validation, the SII may be used to improve both pre treatment patient risk stratification and patient counseling.

As an example of research activities in decontamination for decommissioning, new data are presented on the options for corrosion layer dissolution during the decommissioning decontamination, or persulfate regeneration for decontamination solutions re-use. For the management of spent decontamination solutions, new method based on solvent extraction of radionuclides into ionic liquid followed by electrodeposition of the radionuclides has been developed. Fields of applications of composite inorganic-organic absorbers or solid extractants with polyacrylonitrile (PAN) binding matrix for the treatment of liquid radioactive waste are reviewed; a method for americium separation from the boric acid containing NPP evaporator concentrates based on the TODGA-PAN material is discussed in more detail. Performance of a model of radionuclide transport, developed and implemented within the GoldSim programming environment, for the safety studies of the LLW/ILW repository is demonstrated on the specific case of the Richard repository (Czech Republic). Continuation and even broadening of these activities are expected in connection with the approaching end of the lifespan of the first blocks of the Czech NPPs.
A Study on production of mVOC by Stachybotrys chartarum

Stachybotrys chartarumis well known as a agent of stachybotryotoxicosis, a severe disease of large domestic animals. S. chartarum, a toxigenic mould, can produce various volatile chemicals which collectively are termed microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs). We focused this investigation on one mVOC, trichodiene, which is a volatile sesquiterpene, and a biochemical precursor for the formation of non-volatile trichothecene mycotoxins. To identify and characterize trichodiene production, S. chartarumspores were inoculated onto sterilized gypsum boards containing 2 Ibs/msf borate preservative or no added borate control. Mould growth was monitored by weekly changes in VOC profiles by SPME on a gas chromatograph with flame ionization detector. Levels of CO₂ and ergosterol, indicators of metabolismand biomass, were determined at the end of the experiment. Trichodiene was identified and confirmed using gas-chromatography/ mass spectroscopy. A trichodiene peak was detected beginning at 15 days of incubation, and reached a maximum at 35 days incubation, and then gradually decreased. Borates were effective at preventing or reducing mould growth. Borate-treated materials appeared to be resistant to S. chartarum growth and no trichodiene was detected.
Lithium borate glass ceramics as thermal neutron imaging plates

A new glass ceramic composed of a lithium borate glass matrix containing Eu-doped BaCl2 crystals has been developed for thermalneutron radiography, and has been tested for sensitivity toc-radiation. It is shown to exhibit photostimulated luminescence (PSL) uponX- and c-irradiation. The PSL arises from orthorhombic BaCl2 nanocrystallites in the glass ceramics, which also contain a PSL-inactivephase of cubic BaCl2. The relative PSL eciency of the glass ceramics has a strong dependence on gamma energy, which correlates withrelative half-thickness. The eect of uoride doping in the glass ceramics has been found to substantially increase the PSL, which rangesfrom. 0.6% without uoride doping to. 8% with 0.2 F:Cl concentration, all relative to Fujilm’s commercial neutron imaging plateBAS-ND.
