        Bangar, Mangesh A.,Hangarter, Carlos M.,Yoo, Bongyoung,Rheem, Youngwoo,Chen, Wilfred,Mulchandani, Ashok,Myung, Nosang V. WILEY-VCH Verlag 2009 Electroanalysis Vol.21 No.1

<P>Here we report a cost effective and versatile way of synthesizing and assembling multi-functional (e.g., gold-polypyrrole-nickel-gold) nanowires. Multisegmented nanowires were synthesized using electrodeposition method for precise control over segment dimensions for proper expression of material functionality. The nanowires were integrated on microfabricated electrodes using magnetic dipole interactions between the ferromagnetic segment in the nanowire and the ferromagnetic electrodes. The electrical properties of multisegmented nanowires showed semiconducting behavior with the activation energy of ca. 0.27 eV for the conducting polymer segment of the nanowire. These nanowire devices showed response towards light and exposure to ammonia, demonstrating their potential use as photonic device and gas sensor, respectively.</P>

Identification and characterization of SNPs in released, landrace and wild accessions of mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) using whole genome re-sequencing

        Pooja Bangar,Neetu Tyagi,Bhavana Tiwari,Sanjay Kumar,Paramananda Barman,Ratna Kumari,Ambika Gaikwad,K. V. Bhat,Ashok Chaudhury 한국작물학회 2021 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.24 No.2

Mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek var. radiata] is vital grain legume having nutritional and socio-economic importance, especially in the developing countries. We performed whole-genome re-sequencing of three accessions representing the wild progenitor species, released and landrace of mungbean to identify SNPs with relevance to genetic relationships analysis. Approximately 9.3 million raw reads were obtained using Ion Torrent PGM™ platform and more than 92% of the reads were mapped to the reference mungbean genome. We identified a total of 233,799 single-nucleotide polymorphisms in relation to the reference genome (SNPs: 103,341 in wild, 93,078 in released and 37,380 in landrace accessions) and 9544 insertions and deletions (InDels: 4742 in wild, 3608 in released and 1194 in landrace accessions) in the coding and non-coding regions. In all accessions, genomic variants were unevenly distributed within and across the mungbean chromosomes. Among these 5339, 4739 and 1795 SNPs were non-synonymous in 815, 790 and 317 genes of wild, released and landrace accessions, respectively. These polymorphisms might contribute to the variation in important pathways of genes for abiotic and biotic stress tolerance and important agronomic traits, such as seed dormancy, fl owering time and seed size in mungbean. Among the randomly selected SNPs, a selected subset was validated using Sanger sequencing technique. The genomic variations among mungbean wild, released and landrace accessions constitute a powerful tool to support genetic research and molecular breeding of mungbean.

      • Study of Volatility of New Ship Building Prices in LNG Shipping

        T. Bangar RAJU,Vikas S. SENGAR,R. JAYARAJ,N. KULSHRESTHA 국제이네비해양경제학회 2016 International Journal of e-Navigation and Maritime Vol.5 No.1

The natural gas market has been expanding in size and has attracted particular attention across the global energy market. Although most natural gas transportation is carried out through pipelines, almost one third of it is done with the help of merchant vessels, capable of carrying liquefied natural gas. These LNG carriers have a special design and thus can be treated as a separate class of global fleet. New vessels are huge capital investments by vessel owning companies and just like other vessel classes; the new shipbuilding prices for the LNG segment continue to be a key aspect in the decision making of business players. Additionally these prices can be volatile as new ship building prices fluctuate with time. This paper attempts to analyse the volatility of new ship building prices of LNG carriers. For the study, the average ship building prices for all the LNG carriers having volume carrying capacity is between 160,000 – 173,000 cbm to be delivered between 2016 – 2019 were taken into account. For the analysis, GARCH and EGARCH methods were applied on the data set. The analysis concluded that there is a great deal of volatility in the new ship building prices of LNG vessels. It was also identified that negative shocks were more persistent the positive shocks.

Non-linear modelling to describe lactation curve in Gir crossbred cows

        ( Yogesh C. Bangar ),( Med Ram Verma ) 한국동물자원과학회(구 한국축산학회) 2017 한국축산학회지 Vol.59 No.2

Background: The modelling of lactation curve provides guidelines in formulating farm managerial practices in dairy cows. The aim of the present study was to determine the suitable non-linear model which most accurately fitted to lactation curves of five lactations in 134 Gir crossbred cows reared in Research-Cum- Development Project (RCDP) on Cattle farm, MPKV (Maharashtra). Four models viz. gamma-type function, quadratic model, mixed log function and Wilmink model were fitted to each lactation separately and then compared on the basis of goodness of fit measures viz. adjusted R2, root mean square error (RMSE), Akaike`s Informaion Criteria (AIC) and Bayesian Information Criteria (BIC). Results: In general, highest milk yield was observed in fourth lactation whereas it was lowest in first lactation. Among the models investigated, mixed log function and gamma-type function provided best fit of the lactation curve of first and remaining lactations, respectively. Quadratic model gave least fit to lactation curve in almost all lactations. Peak yield was observed as highest and lowest in fourth and first lactation, respectively. Further, first lactation showed highest persistency but relatively higher time to achieve peak yield than other lactations. Conclusion: Lactation curve modelling using gamma-type function may be helpful to setting the management strategies at farm level, however, modelling must be optimized regularly before implementing them to enhance productivity in Gir crossbred cows.

      • Hazards Analysis of Routine Ship Towage operations in Indian Coastal Waters

Abhijit SINGH,T. Bangar RAJU 국제이네비해양경제학회 2016 International Journal of e-Navigation and Maritime Vol.4 No.1

Main cause of accidents is just not always bad luck. Literature on safety has emphasised on the facts that accident finally leads to unfortunate consequence. The first step of risk assessment is to identify the hazards that are present. The Routine Ship Towage, also called harbour towage, is potentially a hazardous operation. The main objective of this research is to identify and quantify the important factors impacting on the safety of routine ship towage operations in Indian coast. In doing so, initially, the existing literature on factors influencing safety of harbour towage operation was analysed to design questionnaire. Rest necessary data was collected through questionnaires. Finally, the factor analysis (Principal Component analysis) was applied to find grouped dimensions from identified hazard variables from literature and subsequently the critical analysis of incident type frequency, cause and consequences to get a clear picture of critical safety risk factors. As a result, the research found 20 criteria in 6 dimensions safety risk factors such as Crew Incompetency, Rough Weather, Poor Work Process, Suitability of Tug Type, Poor Safety Management System, and Poor Navigational Risk Assessment.

      • Cluster Policy: Perspectives on Practices in the Maritime Sector

Baiju Radhakrishnan,Totakura Bangar Raju,Tarun Dhingra 국제이네비해양경제학회 2020 International Journal of e-Navigation and Maritime Vol.14 No.1

In most of the developing countries, the performance indicators of industry clusters have outpaced the na-tion’s economic development indicators. Clusters as an instrument for economic growth is turning out to be an acceptable choice among policymakers globally. Establishment and execution of cluster policies can be classified in to different models based on approaches to the creation and promotion of clusters followed in different geographies. Potential constituents of a cluster need to be motivated to participate in more common action. Cluster policy is about consistently paving the way for environments that are encouraging to the dis-tinct businesses and organizations those are the key actors in cluster activities. There should be definitive benefits facilitated by the policy measures to encourage the constituent firms to participate in the cluster activities. The attempt was to facilitate policy makers by identifying the characteristics of cluster policies, which are fundamentally critical to be considered within many of the approaches being practiced, especially in the maritime industry.

Association between age at first calving, first lactation traits and lifetime productivity in Murrah buffaloes

        Tamboli P.,Bharadwaj A.,Chaurasiya A.,Bangar Y. C.,Jerome A. 아세아·태평양축산학회 2022 Animal Bioscience Vol.35 No.8

Objective: This study was conducted to estimate the association of age at first calving (AFC) with first lactation traits as well as lifetime performance traits in Murrah buffaloes. Methods: Data on first lactation and life time performance of Murrah buffaloes (n = 679), maintained at Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes, Hisar, India during the period 1983 through 2017, were deduced to calculate heritability estimates, genetic and phenotypic correlation of different first lactation and lifetime traits. The univariate animal model was fitted to estimate variance components and heritability separately for each trait, while bivariate animal models were set to estimate genetic and phenotypic correlations between traits under study. Results: The heritability was high for first peak milk yield (FPY, 0.64±0.08), moderate for AFC (0.48±0.07) and breeding efficiency (BE 0.39±0.09). High genetic correlations of first lactation total milk yield (FLTMY) with first lactation standard milk yield (FLSMY, 305 days or less), FPY, and first lactation length (FLL) was seen. Likewise, genetic correlation of AFC was positive with FLTMY, FLL, first dry period (FDP), first service period (FSP), first calving interval (FCI), herd life (HL) and productive days (PD). Significant phenotypic correlation of FLTMY was observed with HL, productive life (PL), PD, total lifetime milk yield (LTMY), standard lifetime milk yield (standard LTMY). Moreover, positive genetic and phenotypic correlation of FPY was observed with HL, PL, PD, total LTMY and standard LTMY. Conclusion: This study reports that AFC had positive genetic correlation with FDP, FSP, FCI, and unproductive days while, negative association of AFC was observed with FLSMY, PL, total LTMY, standard LTMY, and BE. This suggests that reduction of AFC would results in improvement of lifetime performance traits.
