        Super paramagnetic ZIF-67 metal organic framework nanocomposite

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Nanoparticle encapsulated metal-organic framework composites have attracted attention in many fields owing to the achievement of combined properties. We report a simple method for the encapsulation of magnetite nanoparticles into zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67). ZIF-67 framework is prepared by using Cobalt nitrate as metal salt by hydrothermal method. The material shows functional properties of both magnetite and ZIF-67. The bonding interactions are analysed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The microstructure and morphology are characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Magnetic measurements are inquired by vibrating sample magnetometry and surface area studies done by Bruner-Emmett and Teller surface area analysis technique.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Super paramagnetic magnetite nanoparticle is encapsulated into the ZIF-67 framework. </LI> <LI> Resulting nanocomposite retains the super paramagnetic behaviour. </LI> <LI> Encapsulated nanocomposite retains the morphology of ZIF 67. </LI> <LI> Thermal stability of the nanocomposite has been improved significantly compared to magnetite nanoparticle alone. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>TEM image of magnetite encapsulated ZIF-67 framework shows the incorporation of magnetite nanoparticles into the surface cavities.</P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        Synthesis and Characterization of a Novel Laser Ablation Sensitive Triazene Incorporated Epoxy Resin

        New triazene monomer was synthesized and further employed as a crosslinking agent partner with epoxy matrix using ethyl methyl imidazole as a curing agent in order to investigate the effect of triazene moieties on polymeric properties for laser ablation application. The synthesized triazene monomer was characterized by analytical and spectroscopic methods, while the surface morphology of resist after laser ablation was visualized by optical laser scanning images and scanning electron microscopy. Thermogravimetrical investigations indicate the loss of nitrogen being the initial thermal decomposition step and exhibit sufficient stabilities for the requirements for laser ablation application. Fourier transform infra-red, nuclear magnetic resonance, and gas chromatography analyses showed the successful synthesis of triazene. The ablation results from the optical laser scanning images revealed that the etching depth could be controlled by varying the concentration of triazene monomer in the formulation of epoxy. The shear strength analysis revealed that that the shear strength increased with increasing the amount of triazene in the formulation of direct ablation sensitive resist.

        Validity of Heckscher-Ohlin-Vanek Hypothesis

        The paper uses partial and complete tests to confirm the validity of the Heckscher-Ohlin-Vanek hypothesis (H-O-V). H-O-V hypothesis relates factor abundance and scarcity to the factor content of net trade. Partial test is performed using India’s industry level data from the year 1989-2008. The results reveal that India is abundant in unskilled labour and capital and it is scarce in skilled labour, energy and services as an input in manufacturing sector. Further, a complete test is performed by considering five factors of production, such as primary educated labour force, labour force with secondary and tertiary education, capital and arable land and a set of ten important industries such as mineral, chemical, plastics and rubber, leather, wood, textile, stone/glass, metal, machinery and transportation industries for the year 2009. The complete test is a test of the modified H-O-V theorem which defines abundance and scarcity of factors using excess supply approach. The results justify the H-O-V theorem in more than 50% of the cases. This supports the immense importance of factors and their productivity differentials in explaining India’s trade with its trading partners.

        Geochemical investigations in bulk and clay size fractions from lower Krishna river sediments, southern India: implications of elemental fractionation during weathering, transportation and deposition

        Major and trace elements, including rare earth elements (REEs) geochemistry of bed sediments from the lower reaches of Krishna river suggest their origin mainly from weathering of Deccan basalts and Precambrian rocks of the southern India. The elemental compositions indicate evidence of sedimentary sorting during weathering, transportation and deposition. Highly depleted Na2O and high values of Chemical Index of Alteration (CIA) are suggestive of moderate to strong chemical weathering environment in lower reaches of Krishna river. Major, trace and REE concentrations of bulk sediments suggest marginal variations in relative contribution from mafic and felsic minerals. The bed sediments contain significantly low concentrations of trace elements like Ba, Sr, La, Ce and Nd and moderately low concentrations of V, Zr, Rb, Zn, Ni and Cr relative to upper continental crust (UCC) composition. Most of the other trace elements and REEs are almost similar to UCC indicating their origin from weathering of mixed rock types in catchment areas of Krishna river. Strong relationships of ΣREEs with Ti and Zr in bed sediments suggest that REEs are mainly controlled by heavy minerals such as titanite and zircon. A marked increase in REEs in clay fractions of sediments indicates their adsorption and/or substitution on clay lattice.

        Thermal treatment for the separation of phosphate and recovery of rare earth metals (REMs) from Korean monazite

        Systematic study for thermal decomposition of monazite to remove phosphate as a valuable productusing Na2CO3 and NaOH roasting processes to validate the TG/DTA studies is reported here. Monazite in1:1 wt. ratio with Na2CO3 and NaOH requires a temperature of 900 8C and 400 8C, respectively, for120 min in order to achieve complete conversion of rare earth phosphate into its oxides. The roastedmass was washed, dried and leached in 6 M HCl for 2 h, pulp density 30 g/L at 80 8C which results in>90% REMs recovery. Leach liquor generated will be further processed by solvent extraction andprecipitation processes.

        In situ 미니에멀젼중합에 의한 실리카/폴리스타이렌 복합체 나노입자의 합성과 특성

        In situ 미니에멀젼 중합으로 실리카/폴리스타이렌 하이브리드 나노복합체를 만들기 위하여 9-데세노 산을 실리카 표면 개질제로 처음 도입하였다. 복합체는 나노크기의 잘 분산된 실리카를 함유하고 있었다. 실리카의 표면 개질 및 폴리스타이렌의 합성 등은 FTIR로 확인하였고 생성 라텍스 중에 존재하는 실리카의 양은 TGA 분석으로 확인하였다. 생성된 하이브리드는 실리카의 양 증가에 따라 유리전이온도가 상승하였다. SEM과 TEM으로 확인한 결과 하이브리드 복합체는 평균 직경이 55 nm 정도로 나타났다. 복합체내의 실리카의 존재는 EDS와 연결된 TEM 등으로 확인되었다. New coupling agent or surface modified agent (9-decenoic acid) was used to enhance the compatibility between silica and polystyrene in silica/polystyrene hybrid nanocomposite, synthesized by in situ miniemulsion polymerization. Composites contain well dispersed nanosize silica particles. Related tests and analyses confirmed the success of synthesis. Functionalization of silica by 9-decenoic acid and silica on the polystyrene was confirmed by FTIR. TGA showed presence and amount of silica in final latex. The glass transition temperature of the hybrid nanocomposite was increased with the silica amount. SEM and TEM analysis showed the spherical morphology of PS and composite with an average diameter of 55 nm. The presence of silica within composite was confirmed by EDS attached to the existing TEM.

        Antimicrobial and Micro Raman Spectroscopy of Selected Zingiberaceae Species from Northeast India

        Antimicrobial activity of crude rhizome oils from some important members of Zingiberaceae from Northeast India was carried out in the present study. The plants used were Curcuma amada, C. longa, Zingiber moran, and Z. zerumbet. Rhizomes of the four species were collected and rhizome oil was extracted using six different polar and non-polar solvents. The antimicrobial property of the crude oil was studied against human pathogens using disc-diffusion and viability assay. The rhizome oil of all the 24 extracts exhibited potent antimicrobial activity against all pathogenic bacterial and fungal strains tested. Hydrodistilled fractions of the four species studied showed better effect among all solvents. Water extract of Z. moran was found to be the highest effective antimicrobial agent of all. Antibacterial effect of the water fractions was also characterized against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria using micro Raman spectroscopy. This investigation shows that the essential oils from the wild and domestic species of the family Zingiberaceae from Northeast India are a potential source of bioactive compounds with tremendous medicinal, economic, and therapeutic value. The wild and endemic species Z. moran represents an interesting and promising source of plant-derived antimicrobial agent in the development of new drugs against pathogens.

        Contribution of Clinical Archetypes, and the Challenges, towards Achieving Semantic Interoperability for EHRs

        Objectives: The objective is to introduce ‘clinical archetype’ which is a formal and agreed way of representing clinical information to ensure interoperability across and within Electronic Health Records (EHRs). The paper also aims at presenting the challenges building quality labeled clinical archetypes and the challenges towards achieving semantic interoperability between EHRs. Methods: Twenty years of international research, various European healthcare informatics projects and the pioneering work of the openEHR Foundation have led to the following results. Results: The requirements for EHR information architectures have been consolidated within ISO 18308 and adopted within the ISO 13606 EHR interoperability standard. However, a generic EHR architecture cannot ensure that the clinical meaning of information from heterogeneous sources can be reliably interpreted by receiving systems and services. Therefore, clinical models called ‘clinical archetypes’ are required to formalize the representation of clinical information within the EHR. Part 2 of ISO 13606 defines how archetypes should be formally represented. The current challenge is to grow clinical communities to build a library of clinical archetypes and to identify how evidence of best practice and multi-professional clinical consensus should best be combined to define archetypes at the optimal level of granularity and specificity and quality label them for wide adoption. Standardizing clinical terms within EHRs using clinical terminology like Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine Clinical Terms is also a challenge. Conclusions: Clinical archetypes would play an important role in achieving semantic interoperability within EHRs. Attempts are being made in exploring the design and adoption challenges for clinical archetypes.
