Automated recognition of white blood cells using deep learning

Amin Khouani,Mostafa El Habib Daho,Sidi Ahmed Mahmoudi,Mohammed Amine Chikh,Brahim Benzineb 대한의용생체공학회 2020 Biomedical Engineering Letters (BMEL) Vol.10 No.3

The detection, counting, and precise segmentation of white blood cells in cytological images are vital steps in the eff ectivediagnosis of several cancers. This paper introduces an effi cient method for automatic recognition of white blood cells inperipheral blood and bone marrow images based on deep learning to alleviate tedious tasks for hematologists in clinicalpractice. First, input image pre-processing was proposed before applying a deep neural network model adapted to cellslocalization and segmentation. Then, model outputs were improved by using combined predictions and corrections. Finally,a new algorithm that uses the cooperation between model results and spatial information was implemented to improve thesegmentation quality. To implement our model, python language, Tensorfl ow, and Keras libraries were used. The calculationswere executed using NVIDIA GPU 1080, while the datasets used in our experiments came from patients in the Hemobiologyservice of Tlemcen Hospital (Algeria). The results were promising and showed the effi ciency, power, and speed of theproposed method compared to the state-of-the-art methods. In addition to its accuracy of 95.73%, the proposed approachprovided fast predictions (less than 1 s).

Vahidi, Behrooz,Mahmoudi, Amin The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2012 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.7 No.3

Finite Volume Method (FVM) is chosen to calculate the heat transfer field and the heat generation with in the cable and heat dissipation in the surrounding soil of a three phase 145kV underground cable brunch that make it possible to analyze the ampacity of the cable. FLUENT as the proper software in this field is used to generate and solve the problem. Non-homogenous environment is considered for cable ampacity calculation and results are compare with homogenous environment condition.

Multi-Objective Soft Computing-Based Approaches to Optimize Inventory-Queuing-Pricing Problem under Fuzzy Considerations

        Alireza Alinezhad,Amin Mahmoudi,Vahid Hajipour 대한산업공학회 2016 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.15 No.4

Due to uncertain environment, various parameters such as price, queuing length, warranty, and so on influence on inventory models. In this paper, an inventory-queuing-pricing problem with continuous review inventory control policy and batch arrival queuing approach, is presented. To best of our knowledge, (I) demand function is stochastic and price dependent; (II) due to the uncertainty in real-world situations, a fuzzy programming approach is applied. Therefore, the presented model with goal of maximizing total profit of system analyzes the price and order quantity decision variables. Since the proposed model belongs to NP-hard problems, Pareto-based approaches based on non-dominated ranking and sorting genetic algorithm are proposed and justified to solve the model. Several numerical illustrations are generated to demonstrate the model validity and algorithms performance. The results showed the applicability and robustness of the proposed soft-computing-based approaches to analyze the problem.

Thermal buckling analysis of cross-ply laminated rectangular plates under nonuniform temperature distribution: A differential quadrature approach

        M. Mansour Mohieddin Ghomshei,Amin Mahmoudi 대한기계학회 2010 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.24 No.12

Differential quadrature method (DQM) is implemented for analyzing the thermal buckling behavior of the symmetric cross-ply laminated rectangular thin plates subjected to uniform and/or non-uniform temperature fields. The approach includes two steps: (1) solving the problem of in-plane thermo-elasticity to obtain the in-plane force resultants and (2) solving the buckling problem under the force distribution obtained in the previous step. Solution procedures are numerically performed by discretizing the governing differential equations and boundary conditions using DQM method. Applying the developed DQ formulation, the buckling loads are obtained for several sample plates. The numerical results compared well with those available in the literature as well as those obtained by ABAQUS. Parametric studies are conducted to investigate the influence of some important parameters including the plate aspect ratio, cross-ply ratio, and stiffness ratio on the critical temperature and mode shape of buckling.

Determinants of Coopetition Relationships in International Joint Ventures for High-Speed Rail Projects

        Yanliang Niu,Huimin Li,Kunhui Ye,Amin Mahmoudi,Xiaopeng Deng 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.5

The mileage of high-speed rail (HSR) is expected to grow in the foreseeable future. Fierce international competition and HSR business uniqueness have facilitated the broad application of international joint ventures (IJVs) globally. However, the interaction between competition and cooperation complicates IJVs, and IJVs partners’ implementation has rarely been informed concerning the fluent operation of IJVs for HSR projects. This study aims to examine the determinants of IJVs coopetition for HSR projects. We identified 35 variables along with their clusters through literature review and pilot study, and collected data from the international HSR industry using a questionnaire survey. Eight clusters verified by the confirmatory factor analysis come from three levels: macro-level, project-level, and firm-level. Based on the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), a path model for the coopetition relationship has been established, demonstrating that macro-level and project-level determinants affect the coopetition relationship via the firm-level determinants. Furthermore, the path model indicates recommendations corresponding to various situations (isolating situation, partnering situation, contending situation, and adapting situation) for IJVs members to find a way to improve the coopetition relationship. Thus, this study not only contributes to the existing knowledge body on coopetition theory, but also enhances HSR contractors’ comprehension of the coopetition relationship determinants as well as the interactions.

      • Candida non albicans with a High Amphotericin B Resistance Pattern Causing Candidemia among Cancer Patients

Kalantar, Enayatollah,Assadi, Mojan,Pormazaheri, Helen,Hatami, Shiva,Barari, Maryam Agha,Asgari, Esfandiar,Mahmoudi, Elaheh,Kabir, Kourosh,Marashi, Seyed Mahmoud Amin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.24

Background: Many scientists have reported Candida species to be of great concern because of the high frequency that they colonize and infect human hosts, particularly cancer patients. Moreover, in the last decades Candida species have developed resistance to many antifungal agents. Based on this, we aimed to identify and determine the prevalence of Candida spp from blood culture bottles among cancer patients and their antifungal resistance pattern. Materials and Methods: From the blood culture bottles isolation and identification of the Candida spp were performed by conventional microbiological techniques. The in vitro antibiotic resistance pattern of the isolates was determined by CLSI guidelines. Genomic DNA was isolated and amplified. Each gene was separated by agar gel electrophoresis. Results: Identification of Candida spp was based on the presence of yeast cells in direct examination, culture and DNA extraction. Of the 68 blood samples collected during the study period (April 2013 to October 2013), five (7.35%) were positive for the presence of Candida spp, 2 (40%) of which were identified as Candida albicans and 3 (60%) were Candida non-albicans. Conclusions: High resistance to amphotricin B was observed among all the Candida non-albicans isolates. Regular investigations into antifungal resistance will help us to get an updated knowledge about their antibiotic resistance pattern which may help the physician in selecting the antibiotics for empirical therapy.
