        The Basis Number of the Lexicographic Product of Different Ladders with Paths and Cycles

        In [8] M. Y. Alzoubi and M. M. Jaradat studied the basis number of the composition of paths and cycles with Ladders, Circular ladders and M$\"{o}$bius ladders. Namely, they proved that the basis number of these graphs is 4 except possibly for some cases in each of them. Since the lexicographic product is noncommutative, in this paper we investigate the basis number of the lexicographic product of the different kinds of ladders with paths and cycles. In fact, we prove that the basis number of almost all of these graphs is 4.

        The Basis Number of the Cartesian Product of a Path with a Curcular Ladder, a Möbius Ladder and a Net

        The basis number of a graph G is the least positive integer k such that G has a k-fold basis. In this paper, we prove that the basis number of the cartesian product of a path with a circular ladder, a M□bius ladder and path with a net is exactly 3. This improves the upper bound of the basis number of these graphs for a general theorem on the cartesian product of graphs obtained by Ali and Marougi, see [2]. Also, by this general result, the cartesian product of a theta graph with a M□bius ladder is at most 5. But in section 3 we prove that it is at most 4.

        Blockchain consensus mechanisms comparison in fog computing: A systematic review

        Numerous consensus mechanisms have been suggested to cater to the specific characteristics of fog computing. To comprehensively understand their unique features, performance, and applications in fog computing, it is crucial to conduct a systematic analysis of these mechanisms. For this study, 79 relevant articles were carefully selected based on predefined criteria. Among these articles, 35 employed work-proof-based consensus mechanisms, 24 utilized voting-based mechanisms, and 22 adopted capability-based mechanisms. Among the 26 identified consensus mechanisms, proof of work remains the most prevalent one. It is important to note that the scope of this paper is limited to the research available in the predominant databases at the time of writing. Future research may expand to include additional databases and more recent literature in this domain.

        Comparing ANFIS and integrating algorithm models (ICA-ANN, PSO-ANN, and GA-ANN) for prediction of energy consumption for irrigation land leveling

        Land leveling is one of the most important steps in soil preparation for consequent objectives. Parallel policies need to take both energy and environmental subjects into the account as well as certain financial development and eco-friendly protection. The objective of this research was to develop the five methods of GA-ANN, ICA-ANN, PSO-ANN, sensitivity analysis, and ANFIS to predict the environmental indicators for land leveling. In this study, several soil properties such as soil, cut/fill volume, soil compressibility factor, specific gravity, moisture content, slope, sand percent, and soil swelling index were investigated that are the main affecting parameters in energy consumption through land leveling. A total of 90 samples were prepared from three land areas. Acquired data were used to develop accurate models for Labor, LE (Labor Energy), FE (Fuel Energy), TMC (Total Machinery Cost), and TME (Total Machinery Energy). Results of sensitivity analysis showed that only three parameters of soil compressibility, density of soil, and cut/fill volume had significant effects on energy consumption. The results showed among the mentioned methods for estimating the amount of energy required in different parts such as labor, fuel, and machinery, GA-ANN and ICA-ANN methods were more precise than others. The sensitivity analysis method was the least accurate. Finally, it was concluded that the GA-ANN method was the best due to its high R2 and low RMSE values.

        The Bidirectional Relationship between Diabetes and Depression: A Literature Review

        Diabetes is a major public health problem worldwide. Depression is a serious mental condition that decreases mental and physical functioning and reduces the quality of life. Several lines of evidence suggest a bidirectional re-lationship between diabetes and depression: diabetes patients are twice as likely to experience depression than nondiabetic individuals. In contrast, depression increases the risk of diabetes and interferes with its daily self-man-agement. Diabetes patients with depression have poor glycemic control, reduced quality of life, and an increased risk of diabetes complications, consequently having an increased mortality rate. Conflicting evidence exists on the potential role of factors that may account for or modulate the relationship between diabetes and depression. There-fore, this review aims to highlight the most notable body of literature that dissects the various facets of the bidirec-tional relationship between diabetes and depression. A focused discussion of the proposed mechanisms underly-ing this relationship is also provided. We systematically reviewed the relevant literature in the PubMed database, using the keywords “Diabetes AND Depression”. After exclusion of duplicate and irrelevant material, literature eli-gible for inclusion in this review was based on meta-analysis studies, clinical trials with large sample sizes (n ≥1,000), randomized clinical trials, and comprehensive national and cross-country clinical studies. The evidence we present in this review supports the pressing need for long, outcome-oriented, randomized clinical trials to de-termine whether the identification and treatment of patients with these comorbid conditions will improve their medical outcomes and quality of life.

        Protective effects of cardamom aqueous extract against tamoxifen-induced pancreatic injury in female rats

        Tamoxifen (TAM) is a commonly used drug for breast cancer treatment. Although effective, TAM has deleterious effects on many organs. The toxic effects of TAM on the pancreas and the underlying mechanisms however, have not fully investigated. In the present study, we investigated the effects of TAM on the pancreatic tissue in female rats. We also examined whether cardamom aqueous extract (CAE) protects against TAM-induced pancreatic injury. TAM-intoxicated rats were injected with 45 mg/kg of TAM for 10 days, whereas rats in the CAE-treated group were administered 10 mL/kg of CAE for 20 days, starting 10 days prior to TAM administration. Treatment with TAM resulted in severe degeneration of the pancreatic acini and marked increases in the serum levels of pancreatic lipase, α-amylase, glucose, fatty acids and triglycerides along with decreased insulin serum levels. TAM led to oxidative stress as evident from a significant increase in the pancreatic levels of lipid peroxides and nitric oxide along with the depletion of reduced glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase. Moreover, inflammation was indicated by a significant increase in tumor necrosis factor–α and interleukin-6 levels, enhanced expression of the macrophage recruitment marker; CD68 as well as up-regulated protein levels of toll-like receptor 4 and nuclear factor kappa B and increased p-p38/MAPK ratio; which are important signals in the production of inflammatory cytokines. TAM also markedly increased the pancreatic levels of caspase-3 and BAX reflecting its apoptotic effects. The CAE treatment ameliorated all the biochemical and histological changes induced by TAM. The present study revealed, for the first time, that TAM has toxic effects on the pancreatic tissue through oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptotic effects. The present study also provides evidence that CAE exerts cytoprotective effects against these deleterious effects induced by TAM in the pancreatic tissue.

        On the Basis Number of the Semi-Strong Product of Bipartite Graphs with Cycles

        A basis of the cycle space C (G) is d-fold if each edge occurs in at most d cycles of C(G). The basis number, b(G), of a graph G is defined to be the least integer d such that G has a d-fold basis for its cycle space. MacLane proved that a graph G is planar if and only if $b(G)\;{\leq}\;2$. Schmeichel showed that for $n\;{\geq}\;5,\;b(K_{n}\;{\bullet}\;P_{2})\;{\leq}\;1\;+\;b(K_n)$. Ali proved that for n, $m\;{\geq}\;5,\;b(K_n\;{\bullet}\;K_m)\;{\leq}\;3\;+\;b(K_n)\;+\;b(K_m)$. In this paper, we give an upper bound for the basis number of the semi-strong product of a bipartite graph with a cycle.

      • Effect of Seven Days of Beta-Alanine Supplementation on Cycle Ergometer Wingate Test Performance

        Carnosine is a skeletal muscle potent H+ buffer that is suggested to reduce acidosis during high-intensity exercise. Carnosine synthesis is highly limited by the Beta-Alanine (β-Ala) availability. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 7 days of β-Ala supplementation on 30-sec cycle ergometer Wingate test parameters. Total of 16 healthy active subjects (10 males and 6 females) [32.2±4.8 years, 81.3 ± 15.9kg, and 173.8±8.9 cm] were pre-tested on 30-sec maximal ergometer cycling Wingate test. They were thereafter assigned randomly to a treatment group (β-Ala) and control group (Con). Subjects in β-Ala received a 15 g of flavored β-Ala (5 g β-Ala, 10 g of dextrose), while Con received a 15 g of dextrose only (placebo). After supplementation, subjects performed the same maximal ergometer cycling test. Only Peak and mean RPM increased from pre- to post-supplementation in β-Ala (P< 0.01), but not in Con (P > 0.3).The percent change from pre- to post-supplementation was greater in β-Ala than Con. Total work done was not affected by the β-Ala despite the increase in peak and mean RPM. These data shows that 7 days of β-Ala supplementation does not improve cycle ergometer Wingate test performance. Increased RPM is not a necessary indicator of elevated total power output during maximal cycling.

        Accuracy analysis of computational algorithms for prediction of daylight illuminance in space with shading devices

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This study examines the accuracy of annual daylight simulation method (ADSM) in predicting illuminance for spaces with shading device conditions. ADSM algorithms were developed separately for the sun and sky to predict their effect on indoor daylight illuminance. Sun-matching and daylight coefficient methods were developed for the sun, while sky-matching and daylight coefficient methods with one and four sky patches were developed for the sky. The daylight illuminance computed from ADSM under various daylight conditions was compared with those calculated from Radiance and field measurements.</P> <P>Results imply strong linear correlations existed between the predicted daylight illuminance levels by the ADSM and Radiance under diverse sky conditions based on weather data. The predicted illuminance from ADSM was lower than field measurements for all sky conditions. ADSM computations mostly agree with field measurements. For clear and partly cloudy sky conditions, the daylight coefficient approach for sky of ADSM generated a stronger correlation to measured data, but the sky-matching algorithm showed a stronger correlation to field data. The daylight coefficient approach for sky, combined with ADSM computation algorithms for sun, effectively reduced the difference between the predicted and measured illuminance under clear or partly cloudy sky conditions.
