A robust-based fatigue optimization method for systems subject to uncertainty

        U. L. Rosa,A. M. G. de Lima,L. K. S. Gonçalves,M. H. Belonsi 대한기계학회 2022 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.36 No.9

A robust design method based on fatigue for stochastic problems is proposed. In most cases, fatigue analyses of structures are performed by assuming the nominal values of their parameters in a deterministic way. However, since the systems are frequently subject to parametric uncertainty and random forces simultaneously, it does not provide a representative fatigue index. Thus, it becomes essential to consider these uncertainties on the fatigue models. Here, a plate stochastic finite element is used to formulate the probabilistic Sines’ index in frequency-domain, where the random fields are discretized using Karhunen-Loève expansion with hypercube sampling as stochastic solver. To maximize fatigue performance, a robust optimization combined with a robust reduction is proposed to increase the efficiency of the method. The envelopes of stresses and the Sines’ coefficients for optimized solutions confirm the importance of considering uncertainty on fatigue models for more realistic situations.

SPIF-A: on the development of a new concept of incremental forming machine

        R.J. Alves de Sousa,J.A.F. Ferreira,J.B. Sá de Farias,J.N.D. Torrão,D.G. Afonso,M.A.B.E Martins 국제구조공학회 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.49 No.5

This paper presents the design and project of an innovative concept for a Single PointIncremental Forming (SPIF) Machine. Nowadays, equipment currently available for conducting SPIF resultmostly from the adaptation of conventional CNC machine tools that results in a limited range of applicationsin terms of materials and geometries. There is also a limited market supply of equipment dedicated toIncremental Sheet Forming (ISF), that are costly considering low batches, making it unattractive forindustry. Other factors impairing a quicker spread of SPIF are large forming times and poor geometricalaccuracy of parts. The following sections will depict the development of a new equipment, designed toovercome some of the limitations of machines currently used, allowing the development of a sounding basisfor further studies on the particular features of this process. The equipment here described possesses sixdegrees-of freedom for the tool, for the sake of improved flexibility in terms of achievable tool-paths and anextra stiffness provided by a parallel kinematics scheme. A brief state of the art about the existing SPIFmachines is provided to support the project’s guidelines.

      • A combined search for the standard model Higgs boson at s=1.96 TeV

        DO Collaboration,Abazov, V.M.,Abbott, B.,Abolins, M.,Acharya, B.S.,Adams, M.,Adams, T.,Aguilo, E.,Ahn, S.H.,Ahsan, M.,Alexeev, G.D.,Alkhazov, G.,Alton, A.,Alverson, G.,Alves, G.A.,Anastasoaie, M.,Ancu North-Holland Pub. Co 2008 Physics letters: B Vol.663 No.1

We present new results of the search for WH->@?νbb@? production in pp@? collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=1.96 TeV, based on a dataset with integrated luminosity of 0.44 fb-1. We combine these new results with previously published searches by the D0 collaboration, for WH and ZH production analyzed in the E@?Tbb@? final state, for ZH (->@?+@?-bb@?) production, for WH (->WWW) production, and for H (->WW) direct production. No signal-like excess is observed either in the WH analysis or in the combination of all D0 Higgs boson analyses. We set 95% C.L. (expected) upper limits on σ(pp@?->WH)xB(H->bb@?) ranging from 1.6 (2.2) pb to 1.9 (3.3) pb for Higgs boson masses between 105 and 145 GeV, to be compared to the theoretical prediction of 0.13 pb for a Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson with mass mH=115 GeV. After combination with the other D0 Higgs boson searches, we obtain for mH=115 GeV an observed (expected) limit 8.5 (12.1) times higher than the SM predicted Higgs boson production cross section. For mH=160 GeV, the corresponding observed (expected) ratio is 10.2 (9.0).

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A search for supersymmetric partners of quarks is performed in the topology of multijet events accompanied by at least one tau lepton decaying hadronically and large missing transverse energy. Approximately 1 fb−1 of pp¯ collision data from the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV recorded by the DØ detector is analyzed. Results are combined with the previously published DØ inclusive search for squarks and gluinos. No evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model is found and lower limits on the squark mass up to 410 GeV are derived in the framework of minimal supergravity with tanβ=15, A0=−2m0 and μ<0, in the region where decays to tau leptons dominate. Gaugino masses m1/2 are excluded up to 172 GeV.</P>

      • Search for admixture of scalar top quarks in the tt@? lepton + jets final state at s=1.96 TeV

        DO Collaboration,Abazov, V.M.,Abbott, B.,Abolins, M.,Acharya, B.S.,Adams, M.,Adams, T.,Aguilo, E.,Ahsan, M.,Alexeev, G.D.,Alkhazov, G.,Alton, A.,Alverson, G.,Alves, G.A.,Anastasoaie, M.,Ancu, L.S.,And North-Holland Pub. Co 2009 Physics letters: B Vol.674 No.1

A search for pair production of the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark, t@?1, is performed in the lepton+jets channel using 0.9 fb-1 of data collected by the DO experiment. Kinematic differences between t@?1t@?@?1 and the dominant top quark pair production background are used to separate the two processes. First limits from Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider for the scalar top quark decaying to a chargino and a b quark (t@?1->χ@?1+b) are obtained for scalar top quark masses of 130-190 GeV and chargino masses of 90-150 GeV.

      • Search for pair production of first-generation leptoquarks in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

        Abazov, V.M.,Abbott, B.,Abolins, M.,Acharya, B.S.,Adams, M.,Adams, T.,Aguilo, E.,Ahsan, M.,Alexeev, G.D.,Alkhazov, G.,Alton, A.,Alverson, G.,Alves, G.A.,Ancu, L.S.,Andeen, T.,Anzelc, M.S.,Aoki, M.,Arn Elsevier 2009 Physics letters: B Vol.681 No.3

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A search for pair production of first-generation leptoquarks (<I>LQ</I>) is performed with data collected by the DØ experiment in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. In a sample of data corresponding to ∼1 fb−1 the search has been performed on the final states with two electrons and two jets or one electron, two jets and missing transverse energy. We find our data consistent with standard model expectations. The results are combined with those found in a previous analysis of events with two jets and missing transverse energy to obtain scalar <I>LQ</I> mass limits. We set 95% C.L. lower limits on a scalar <I>LQ</I> mass of 299 GeV, 284 GeV and 216 GeV for β=1, β=0.5 and β=0.02 respectively, where <I>β</I> is the <I>LQ</I> branching ratio in the <I>eq</I> channel. This improves the results obtained with a lower luminosity sample from Run II of the Tevatron. Lower limits on vector <I>LQ</I> masses with different couplings from 357 GeV to 464 GeV for β=0.5 are also set using this analysis.</P>

<P>We present a direct measurement of the width of the W boson using the shape of the transverse mass distribution of W --> enu candidate events. Data from approximately 1 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity recorded at square root of s = 1.96 TeV by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp collider are analyzed. We use the same methods and data sample that were used for our recently published W boson mass measurement, except for the modeling of the recoil, which is done with a new method based on a recoil library. Our result, 2.028 +/- 0.072 GeV, is in agreement with the predictions of the standard model.</P>
