Background: This study was designed to assess serum vitamin D status (25-OHD) in the fibromyalgia (FM) patients and to compare it with a healthy control group. It also aimed to investigate the correlation of serum vitamin D level with FM symptom severity and invalidation experiences. Methods: A total of 74 consecutive patients with FM and 68 healthy control participants were enrolled. The eligible FM patients completed the Illness Invalidation Inventory (3*I), the Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQR) and a short-form health survey (SF-12). Venous blood samples were drawn from all participants to evaluate serum 25-OHD levels. Mann-Whitney tests and multiple logistic regression analyses were performed and Spearman’s correlations were calculated. Results: 88.4% of FM patients had low levels of serum 25-OHD. FM patients had significantly higher level of serum 25-OHD than the control group (17.24 ± 13.50 and 9.91 ± 6.47 respectively, P = 0.0001). There were no significant correlations between serum 25-OHD levels and the clinical measures of disease impact, invalidation dimensions, and health status. Multiple logistic regression analyses revealed that an increased discounting of the disease by the patient’s spouse was associated with a 4-fold increased risk for vitamin D deficiency (OR = 4.36; 95% CI, 0.95-19.87, P = 0.05). Conclusions: This study showed that although high rates of vitamin D insufficiency or deficiency were seen among FM patients and healthy non-FM participants, but it seems there was no intrinsic association between FM and vitamin D deficiency. Addressing of invalidation experience especially by the patient’s spouse is important in management of FM. (Korean J Pain 2016; 29: 172-8)

In this study, graphene nanosheets (GNS) prepared through a liquid exfoliationtechnique are dispersed in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) at a volume fraction(Vf) of up to 0.19. Then, the electrical and mechanical properties of the obtainedcomposites are characterized. The dielectric spectroscopy shows an excessivevariation in dielectric constant (1.1 to 3.53 × 107) and dielectric tangent loss (0.03to 2515) with varying Vf over the frequency range of 25 kHz to 5 MHz. Aconsiderable enhancement in electrical conductivity (DC) is found, from3.87 × 10−10 S/m (base polymer) to 53.5 S/m for the 0.19 Vf GNS-TPUnanocomposite. The GNS-TPU composites are mechanically robust, with aconsiderable increase in stiffness (~4-fold) and strength (almost twice),maintaining its ductility up to 0.09 Vf GNS. The high dielectric constant at lowerfrequencies is attributed to the well-established Maxwell-Wagner polarizationeffect, whereas the high dielectric tangent loss is due to leakage currents as aphysical conducting network is formed at high filler loadings. The layeredstructure, high aspect ratio, and improved dispersion of GNS are the main reasonsfor the improvement in both the dielectric characteristics and the mechanicalproperties of the host polymer.

Electrospun TiO2 nanofibers were synthesized by optimizing various electrospinning conditions. The effect of the precursor's concentration present in sol used for electrospinning was studied for the performance of hybrid photovoltaic devices. The synthesized nanofibers were characterized by XRD and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and morphology of the fibers were investigated by FE-SEM. The surface of fibers was modified, and these modified fibers were applied to P3HT/TiO2/ N719 composite nanofibers photovoltaic devices. The device performance was investigated by analysis of the incident photon to current conversion efficiency and a J–V characteristic under 1. 5G illuminations, which show that efficiency of the devices, can be improved from 0.13% to 0.83% by introducing TiO2 nanofibers synthesized by optimum precursor's concentration.

Forearm fractures are common injuries in childhood. Median nerve entrapment is a rare complication of forearm fractures, but several cases have been reported in the literature. This case report discusses the diagnosis and management of median nerve entrapment in a 13-yearold male who presented acutely with a both-bone forearm fracture and numbness in the median nerve distribution. Following the delayed diagnosis, surgical exploration revealed complete nerve entrapment and a nerve graft was performed.

The underwater acoustic wireless communication networks are generally formed by the different autonomous underwater acoustic vehicles, and transceivers interconnected to the bottom of the ocean with battery deployed modems. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has become the most popular modulation technique in underwater acoustic communication due to its high data transmission and robustness over other symmetrical modulation techniques. To maintain the operability of underwater acoustic communication networks, the power consumption of battery-operated transceivers becomes a vital necessity to be minimized. The OFDM technology has a major lack of peak to average power ratio (PAPR) which results in the consumption of more power, creating non-linear distortion and increasing the bit error rate (BER). To overcome this situation, we have contributed our symmetry research into three dimensions. Firstly, we propose a machine learning-based underwater acoustic communication system through long short-term memory neural network (LSTM-NN). Secondly, the proposed LSTM-NN reduces the PAPR and makes the system reliable and efficient, which turns into a better performance of BER. Finally, the simulation and water tank experimental data results are executed which proves that the LSTM-NN is the best solution for mitigating the PAPR with non-linear distortion and complexity in the overall communication system.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common form of cancer in Iranian women, and it remains a major health problem. An increasing number of young women are being diagnosed with BC, and therefore, there is an increasing likelihood that more women will survive breast cancer for many years. Many opine that self-disclosure of BC diagnosis is important because talking about cancer helps people to make sense of their experiences; in fact, self-disclosure appears to play an important role in many health outcomes. However, this has not yet been studied in BC patients in Iran. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the status of self-disclosure of BC diagnosis by Iranian women to friends and colleagues. Materials and Methods: All BC records for 2001-2011 of employed women were studied at five hospitals in Mashhad. Data about the self-disclosure of BC diagnosis were gathered through telephone interviews, and the participants filled out a questionnaire about their status of self-disclosure of BC diagnosis to various groups of people. Results: The mean age of employed women at the time of diagnosis was $44.3{\pm}6.7$ years. Over 60% self-disclosed to work colleagues and over 90% to bosses/managers. Seventy per cent reported that they had support from their family and husband's family, while 95% reported that they had support from parents, siblings, children and friends. Conclusions: Most employed women self-disclosed freely to family, friends, colleagues and bosses/managers. Apparently, self-disclosure of breast cancer diagnosis may have negative effects at work. About half of patients reported that they had support from family, managers and colleagues; however, for nearly 28% of employed women, disclosure had less positive effects. In particular, it altered their perception of others, produced difficulties with work and family and diminished closeness with the people who were told. However, the stigma of BC is far less than it once was.
