Study of density of localized states in a-Ga x Se100-x alloysusing SCLC measurements

        M. Husain,Shagufta B. Husain,M. Zulfequar,M.A. Majeed Khan 한국물리학회 2004 Current Applied Physics Vol.4 No.5

DC conductivity measurements have been made as a function of temperature and electric eld on a-GaxSe100-x (0≤x≤10)samples, in order to study the eect of the electric eld and temperature on the conduction mechanism. The present paper reports themeasurements on space charge limited conduction (SCLC) in vacuum evaporated amorphous thin lms of a-GaxSe100-x where 0≤x≤10. At high fields (~10⁴V/cm), the current could be tted to the theory of space charge limited conduction, in case ofuniform distribution of localized states in the mobility gap of these materials. The addition of Gallium (Ga) in a-GaxSe100-x results in an increase in the density of localized states and hence an increase in conductivity.

Indirubin-3-monoxime and thymoquinone exhibit synergistic effi cacy as therapeutic combination in in-vitro and in-vivo models of Lung cancer

        Ayed A. Dera,Prasanna Rajagopalan,Majed Al Fayi,Irfan Ahmed,Harish C. Chandramoorthy 대한약학회 2020 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.43 No.6

In this study, we report the combination ofindirubin-3-monoxime (I3M) and thymoquinone (Tq) tohave excellent therapeutic effi cacy in models of Lung cancer(LC). Preliminary screening was done with A549 cells. Cellcycle, apoptosis and NFκB phosphorylation were determinedby fl ow cytometry, while apoptotic proteins, Akt and mTORwere assessed by western blotting. Mouse xenograft modelwas used to assess the therapeutic effi cacy in-vivo . Synergisticreduction in cell viability was observed with I3M + Tqcombinations, which were non-toxic to normal HFL-1 cells. Cell cycle analysis indicated G 1 phase reduction with subsequentaccumulation of sub G 0 contents. Annexin V assayrevealed higher apoptotic cells with combinations comparedto individual treatments with a decrease in Bcl-2/Bax ratio. The combinations exhibited anti-metastasis activity in cellmigration in the scratch, scatter and tumour cell migration assays and eff ectively reduced the tumour growth in mouse xenograft model. Expression levels of p-AKT, p-mTOR,Caspase-3, p-53 and NFκB were signifi cantly reduced inthe combination treated mice compared to individual treatments. Results of current study demonstrate clear effi cacy ofI3M + Tq combinations in LC models mediated by suppressingAkt/mTOR/NFκB signalling. Further research is recommendedto transform these fi ndings into novel therapeuticcombinations against LC.

Non Darcy Mixed Convection Flow of Magnetic Fluid over a Permeable Stretching Sheet with Ohmic Dissipation

        A. Zeeshan,A. Majeed 한국자기학회 2016 Journal of Magnetics Vol.21 No.1

This paper aims to discuss the Non Darcy boundary layer flow of non-conducting viscous fluid with magnetic ferroparticles over a permeable linearly stretching surface with ohmic dissipation and mixed convective heat transfer. A magnetic dipole is applied “a” distance below the surface of stretching sheet. The governing equations are modeled. Similarity transformation is used to convert the system of partial differential equations to a system of non-linear but ordinary differential equations. The ODEs are solved numerically. The effects of sundry parameters on the flow properties like velocity, pressure, skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number are presented. It is deduced the frictional resistance of Lorentz force decreases with stronger electric field and the trend reverses for temperature. Skin friction coefficient increase with increase in ferromagnetic interaction parameter. Whereas, Nusselt number decrease.

      • Response of rotational parameter in the stagnation point with motile microorganism: Unsteady nanofluid

        Mohamed A. Khadimallah,Imene Harbaoui,Sofiene Helaili,Abdelhakim Benslimane,Humaira Sharif,Muzamal Hussain,Muhammad Nawaz Naeem,Mohamed R. Ali,Aqib Majeed,Abdelouahed Tounsi Techno-Press 2023 Advances in concrete construction Vol.15 No.4

The unsteady mixed convection Casson type MHD nanofluid flow in the stagnation point with motile microorganism around a spinning sphere is investigated. Time dependent flow dynamics is considered. Similarity transformations have been employed to transfer the governing partial differential structure into ordinary differential structure. The impact of distinct parameters is examined via tables and graphs. The impact of rotational parameter (spin) on profiles of velocity profiles, temperature and concentration is revealed for unsteady mixed convection Casson type MHD nanofluid flow. It is observed that it is clear that rotational parameter has a great effect on non-dimensional primary velocity component but rotational parameter has a slight impact on non-dimensional secondary velocity component. The validity of the current investigation is authorized through comparing the existing outcomes with previous published literature.

Recent Advances in Molecular Marker Techniques: Insight into QTL Mapping, GWAS and Genomic Selection in Plants

        Sajad Majeed Zargar,Bodo Raatz,Humira Sonah,Muslima Nazir,Javid A Bhat,Zahoor Ahmad Dar,Ganesh Kumar Agrawal,Randeep Rakwal 한국작물학회 2015 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.18 No.5

Recent advances in sequencing technology have brought several novel platforms for marker development and subsequent genotyping. The high-throughput and cost effective marker techniques have changed the entire scenario of marker applications. The huge genotypic data obtained with next generation sequencing (NGS) also demands analytical tools, statistical advances, and comprehensive understanding to cope with breeding applications. In the present review, we discussed different available marker techniques, their strengths, and limitations. Emphasis was given on software tools, analytical pipelines, workbenches, and online resources available for marker development. Comparison of SNP genotyping involving complexity reduction techniques like GBS, RRL, RAD, and array-based platforms were presented in a view to describe suitability for specific purposes. We found that genotyping by whole genome re-sequencing has great potential, and could be a routine application in the near future with continuously decreasing cost of sequencing. Microsatellites, still a valuable option for breeders, have also advanced with NGS. Here a catalogue of tools for microsatellite evaluation in short sequence reads was provided. The most common applications of molecular marker like QTL mapping, genome-wide association mapping (GWAS), and genomic selection were highlighted. The present review will be helpful for the effective utilization of available resources and for the planning of crop improvement programs employing molecular marker techniques

17-alpha hydroxyprogesterone caproate for the prevention of recurrent preterm birth among singleton pregnant women with a prior history of preterm birth: a systematic review and meta-analysis of six randomized controlled trials

( Saeed Baradwan ),( Sahar Hassan Abdulghani ),( Mohammed Abuzaid ),( Khalid Khadawardi ),( Majed Saeed Alshahrani ),( Abdulrahman Al-matary ),( May A. Alrasheed ),( Najlaa Talat Miski ),( Aroob Abdul 대한산부인과학회 2021 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.64 No.6

To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that investigated the clinical benefits of 17-alpha hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17OHPC) in the prevention of recurrent preterm birth (PTB) among singleton pregnant women with a previous history of PTB. We searched four major databases up till April 2021 and assessed the risk of bias in the included studies. We meta-analyzed various maternal-neonatal endpoints (n=18) and pooled them as mean difference or risk ratio (RR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) using the random-effects model. Six RCTs met the inclusion criteria, comprising 2,573 patients (17OHPC=1,617, control=956). RCTs revealed an overall low risk of bias. The rates of PTB <35 weeks (n=5 RCTs; RR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.63-0.93; P=0.008), PTB <32 weeks (n=3 RCTs; RR, 0.68; 95% CI, 0.51-0.91; P=0.009), neonates with low birth weight (<2.5 kg) at delivery (n=3 RCTs; RR, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.5-0.79; P<0.001), and neonatal death (n=4 RCTs; RR, 0.41; 95% CI, 0.20-0.84; P=0.02) were significantly reduced in the 17OHPC group compared with the control group. Moreover, 17OHPC treatment correlated with a significantly decreased rate of retinopathy (n=2 RCTs; RR, 0.42; 95% CI, 0.18-0.97; P=0.004). However, there were no significant differences in the rates of neonatal intensive care unit admission, cesarean delivery, and other pretermrelated complications between both the groups. Among singleton pregnant women with a prior history of PTB, 17OHPC may favorably decrease the risks of recurrent PTB and reduce the rate of neonatal death.

In situ Transesterification/Reactive Extraction of Castor Bean Seeds Assisted by Flying Jet Plasma for Biodiesel Production

        Elsheikh, Yasir A.,Abdul-Majeed, Wameath S.,Nasir, Qazi,Al-Rahbi, Balaqis,Al-Subhi, Noor,Mahmoud, Mohamed A.,AAl-Thani, Ghanim S. The Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering C 2022 공업화학 Vol.33 No.5

One of the most exciting areas for the development of alternative fuels is the production of biodiesel. To reduce the cost of biodiesel production, in situ trans-esterification has been introduced to simplify the production process by enabling extraction and trans-esterification to occur at a single stage in the presence of a catalyst. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of using non-corrosive and environmentally receptive flying jet plasma as an alternative catalytic route for in situ tran-sesterification of castor bean seeds (CBS). Upon optimizing the reaction conditions, it is elucidated that applying a low ratio of methanol to seeds (≤6:1) has resulted in hindering the in situ trans-esterification and leading to insignificant conversion. The yield of esters has increased from 80.5% to 91.7% as the molar ratio rose from 9:1 to 12:1. Excess alcohol beyond the ratio of 15:1 was shown to have a negative impact on the yield of the produced esters, attributed to an increase in the biodiesel portion prone to dissolving in the co-product (glycerol). An increase in the reaction bulk temperature from 40 to 55 ℃ led to a higher ester content by 50%. Further increases in the bulk temperature beyond 55 ℃ did not affect yields. Regarding the reaction period, the results have shown that 3 h of reaction is adequate for a higher biodiesel yield. The quality of the biodiesel obtained has demonstrated that all physicochemical properties meet the ASTM D6751 specifications.

Impact of Cattaneo-Christov Heat Flux Model on the Flow of Maxwell Ferromagnetic Liquid Along a Cold Flat Plate Embedded with Two Equal Magnetic Dipoles

        S. U. Rehman,A. Zeeshan,A. Majeed,M. B. Arain 한국자기학회 2017 Journal of Magnetics Vol.22 No.3

The target of the current study is to inspect theoretically two-dimensional boundary layer flow of a Maxwell ferromagnetic fluid toward a flat plate. An external magnetic field due to two equal line dipole which are equidistant from the wall and perpendicular to the flow plane is applied. Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model is utilized in modified form of Fourier’s Law to disclose the heat transfer characteristic. Governing flow problem is normalized into ordinary differential equation by adopting similarity transform procedure. The solution of resulting non-linear ODE’s are solved by shooting technique based on Runge-Kutta algorithm with the help of MATLAB. Characteristic of sundry parameter like magneto-thermomechanical (ferrohydrodynamic) interaction parameter, dimensionless thermal relaxation, Prandtl number and Debora number on velocity and temperature profile are displayed via graphs and in tabular form. It is also pointed out that temperature profile suppresses by varying values of the thermal relaxation time and Prandtl number and increasing behaviour is seen against ferrohydrodynamic interaction. Present numerical results are compared with those published previously in the literature for the case of Newtonian fluid (α₁ → 0) and found an excellent agreement.

Effect of Intermittent Fasting on Glucose Homeostasis and Bone Remodeling in Glucocorticoid-Induced Osteoporosis Rat Model

        Majed G. Alrowaili,Abdelaziz M. Hussein,Elsayed A. Eid,Mohamed S. Serria,Hussein Abdellatif,Hussein F Sakr 대한골대사학회 2021 대한골대사학회지 Vol.28 No.4

Background: The present study examined the effect of intermittent fasting (IF) on bone mineral content (BMC) and bone mineral density (BMD) and the markers of bone remodeling in a glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIO) rat model. Methods: Forty male rats were allocated to 4 groups (N=10 per group): control group of normal rats; control+IF group (normal rats subjected to IF for 16-18 hr daily for 90 days); dexamethasone (DEX) group: (DEX [0.5 mg i.p.] for 90 days); and DEX+IF group (DEX and IF for 90 days). By the end of the experiment, BMD and BMC in the right tibia were measured. Serum levels of the following were measured: glucose; insulin; triglycerides (TGs); total cholesterol; parathyroid hormone (PTH); osteoprotegerin (OPG); receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB (RANK); bone-resorbing cytokines, including bone deoxypyridinoline (DPD), N-terminal telopeptide of collagen type I (NTX-1), and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase 5b (TRAP-5b); and bone-forming cytokines, including alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and osteocalcin (OC). Results: DEX administration for 90 days resulted in significantly increased serum levels of glucose, insulin, TGs, cholesterol, PTH, OPG, DPD, NTX-1, and TRAP-5b and significantly decreased BMD, BMC, and serum levels of RANK, OC, and ALP (all P<0.05). IF for 90 days significantly improved all these parameters (all P<0.05). Conclusions: IF corrected GIO in rats by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis and PTH secretion and stimulating osteoblast activity.

Studies on thin films of lead chalcogenides

        Sushil Kumar,Zishan H. Khan,M.A. Majeed Khan,M. Husain 한국물리학회 2005 Current Applied Physics Vol.5 No.6

A good deal of information regarding the synthesis and optoelectro-structural properties of thin lms of lead chalcogenideshave been revealed. The development of laser technology had opened up new application for narrow gap lead salts and their alloys. The polycrystalline thin lms were deposited onto optically plane and chemically clean glass substrates by vacuum evaporation tech-nique. The lms were thin, uniform, smooth and tightly adherent to the substrates.Optical absorption spectroscopy, X-ray dirac-tion technique and currentvoltage characteristics method were used to characterize the lms. The absorption coecients andoptical band gaps of lms were determined by using FTIR spectrophotometer. The nature of sample, crystal structure and latticeparameters of lms were found from X-ray diractograms. The dc conductivities and activation energies of lms were measured intemperature range 300380K. Schottky junctions of PbS, PbSe and PbTe with indium metal were made. The barrier heights andideality factors of these metalsemiconductor junctions were determined by usingIV characteristics..
