      • Quality Characteristics of Jeju Beets Treated by Various Drying Conditions

        Beets (Beta vulgaris) contain a lot of betalains, a type of natural pigment, so they are known to be red and have strong antioxidant abilities. This study was conducted to compare the physicochemical properties of Jeju beets processed by hot air drying and combined drying. Beets were sliced to 3 mm and dried by hot air drying (13 hours at 50°C, 6 hours at 60°C, or 4.5 hours at 70°C) or combined drying (hot air and infrared radiation). Appearance, water activity, moisture content, pH, color, rehydration ratio (RR), total polyphenol content (TPC), FRAP value, DPPH radical scavenging ability, and ABTS radical scavenging ability were determined. In hot air drying, as the drying temperature increased, water activity, moisture content, and b* value were decreased while L*, a* value, RR, TPC, FRAP value, and ABTS radical scavenging ability were increased. The combined drying had lower water activity and pH value; moreover, it had a higher L*, a* value, RR, TPC, FRAP value, DPPH radical scavenging ability, and ABTS radical scavenging ability. In this study, it was found that the combined drying was more suitable than hot air drying to maintain the antioxidant ability of beet.

        열풍 및 복합건조된 제주산 비트의 이화학적 특성과 항산화 활성

        본 연구에서는 기존 비트의 한계점을 극복하고 고품질의 건조 비트를 제조하기 위한 기초 자료를 제시하고자 제주산 비트를 다양한 온도 조건에서 열풍 및 적외선 복합건조 하였고, 이에 따른 품질변화를 비교하여 건조 조건이 비트의 이화학적 특성과 항산화 활성에 미치는 영향에 대해서 조사하였다. 3 ㎜ 두께로 비트를 절단한 후 70℃에서 4.5시간, 60℃에서 6시간, 50℃에서 13시간 열풍건조 하거나 100℃에서 1시간 복합건조 하였다. 열풍건조한 비트는 건조 온도가 높아질수록 수분함량, 수분활성도, b<SUP>*</SUP>값(황색도), betanin 함량이 감소했고 건조수율과 pH에는 변화가 없었으며, L<SUP>*</SUP> 값(명도), a<SUP>*</SUP> 값(적색도), ΔE 값(건조 전 원물과의 색차), 재복원율, vulgaxanthin-Ⅰ 함량, 총 폴리페놀 함량, DPPH 라디칼 소거능, ABTS⁺ 라디칼 소거능, FRAP 활성은 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 그중에서 수분활성도, a<SUP>*</SUP>값, ΔE 값, FRAP 활성은 건조 온도가 높아짐에 따라 유의적으로 변화하였다. 복합건조한 비트는 열풍건조한 비트보다 L<SUP>*</SUP>값, a<SUP>*</SUP> 값, ΔE 값, 재복원율, 총 폴리페놀 함량, DPPH 라디칼 소거능, ABTS⁺ 라디칼 소거능, FRAP 활성이 유의적으로 높았고 pH는 유의적으로 낮았으며, 수분함량, 수분활성도, b<SUP>*</SUP>값, betanin 함량, vulgaxanthin-Ⅰ 함량에서는 열풍건조한 비트와 유의적인 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 이상의 결과에 따르면 복합건조한 비트가 다른 조건에서 건조를 진행한 비트에 비해 소요되는 시간이 매우 짧고 pH가 낮으며, 재복원율, 총 폴리페놀 함량, 항산화 활성이 높아 고품질의 건조 비트를 제조하기 위해서는 열풍뿐만이 아니라 적외선도 적절히 병용하는 것이 적합할 것으로 보인다. Beet (Beta vulgaris L.) is a healthy food that has recently attracted the consumer’s attention. However, beet has low storage stability due to the high moisture content. Therefore, a drying process is necessary to improve the beet quality. In this study, Jeju beet was dried by applying two processes: hot air drying (4.5 hours at 70℃, 6 hours at 60℃, 13 hours at 50℃) and combined drying (hot air and infrared radiation, 1 hour at 100℃). The effect of both processes was investigated on the physicochemical properties and antioxidant activity was investigated. The dried beets were compared for their appearance, drying yield, moisture content, water activity, pH value, color, rehydration ratio, betalain pigment content, total polyphenol content, DPPH radical scavenging activity, ABTS⁺ radical scavenging activity, and FRAP assay. The beet subjected to combined drying was determined to have high storage properties due to its low moisture content and pH value. In addition, the combined dried beet showed the highest rehydration ratio and antioxidant activity. Taken together, our results indicate that an appropriate combination of hot air and infrared radiation is suitable to produce high-quality dried beet.

        열처리 및 해동방법에 따른 냉동 감자와 당근의 품질 변화

        본 연구에서는 냉동 감자와 당근의 전처리 및 해동 방법에 따른 변화를 관찰하기 위해 hot water blanching 및 steam blanching 처리한 것과 전처리하지 않은 대조구를 개별 급속냉동 하였고, 이후 상온해동, 유수해동, 전자레인지 해동을 진행하여 이화학적, 물리적, 영양학적 변화를 분석하였다. 해동속도는 상온해동, 유수해동, 전자레인지 해동 순으로 빨라졌으며, 전자레인지 해동 방법이 약 24~70배 정도 빠르게 해동되었다. Blanching 처리구의 경우 낮은 해동감량을 나타내었으며 이에 따라 수분함량이 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 감자의 색도는 가열 전처리하였을 때 대조구에 비하여 L<SUP>*</SUP>값과 a<SUP>*</SUP> 값이 유의적으로 차이를 나타내어 blanching 처리가 감자의 갈변현상을 억제하는 것으로 판단된다. 조직감은 전처리의 영향을 받아 blanching 처리를 함에 따라 조직이 연화되어 경도가 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. pH와 총 페놀 함량은 전처리와 해동 공정에 따른 유의적 차이가 나타나지 않았다. DPPH 라디칼 소거능과 비타민 C함량은 steam blanching 처리했을 때 모든 해동 방법에서 높은 수치를 나타냈기 때문에 해동 후 감자와 당근의 항산화 효과를 높게 유지하기 위해서는 steam blanching 처리가 적절할 것으로 판단된다. 이상의 결과를 종합했을 때 감자와 당근의 해동 후 품질 변화는 해동 방법보다 blanching 처리에 따른 것으로 추측되며, 냉동 전 blanching 처리는 해동 시 발생하는 품질 변화를 억제할 수 있고, 특히 steam blanching 처리 후 유수해동 하는 것이 영양성분을 높게 유지해 주는 것으로 판단된다. This study investigates the effects of various blanching methods (hot water blanching (HB) or steam blanching (SB)) and thawing methods (room temperature thawing (RT), running water thawing (WT), and microwave thawing (MT)) on the quality attributes of frozen potatoes and carrots. Blanched potatoes and carrots were frozen using individual quick freezing (−35℃), followed by applying various thawing methods. We observed increased thawing speed in the order of RT, WT, and MT. The MT method was about 24 to 70 times shorter than the other methods. The thawing losses were influenced by the blanching methods which affect the drip loss and moisture contents of potatoes and carrots. The blanching process reduced the browning of potatoes but did not affect color of the carrots. No change was obtained in the pH value when considering different blanching or thawing methods. The hardness of potatoes and carrots tended to be lowered by blanching treatment. SB treated potatoes and carrots had high DPPH radical scavenging ability and vitamin C content. Especially, the WT treated potatoes and carrots had the highest total polyphenol content. Our results confirmed that SB is an excellent pre-treatment for potatoes and carrots from the nutritional aspect, and blanching pre-treatment before the freezing process could suppress the quality changes that occur during the thawing processes. Furthermore, we propose that RT after SB treatment for potatoes and carrots is probably the most suitable method to maintain their nutritional quality.

        시각장애학교에서 음악교과를 가르치는 교사의 수업 전문성 탐구 과정에 대한 자문화기술지

        연구 목적: 이 연구는 시각장애학교에서 음악을 가르치는 교사가 겪은 경험을 면밀히 살펴보고, 이러한 경험을 통해 수업전문성을 탐구해가는 과정을 알아보는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 방법: 연구 목적 달성을 위해 자문화기술지 방법을 활용하였다. 연구 결과: 첫째, 연구자로서의 나는 음악수업 전문성의 부족과 특수교사로서의 전문성 부족을 마주했다. 둘째, 연구자로서의 나는 음악수업 전문성 향상을 위해 음악적 기능과 지식을 함양시켜 나갔으며 음악수업을 통해 실천적 지식을 축적해나갔다. 또한 반성적 사고를 행하며 수업의 질을 개선해나갔으며 사회적 지지 속에서 수업 전문성 계발을 지속하고 보다 다양한 수업을 시도하기 위한 토대를 마련할 수 있었다. 결론: 이러한 연구를 통하여 시각장애학교에서 음악 교과를 가르치는 교사의 수업 전문성 함양 및 시각장애학교 음악수업의 질 개선에 대한 시사점을 도출할 수 있었다. 이 연구의 결과는 향후 시각장애학교 음악수업의 질 개선에 필요한 기초 정보를 제공하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이다. Purpose: This study closely examines the experience of teaching a music class at a school for the visually impaired and investigates the process of nurturing the expertise practical knowledge through such an experience by using autoethnography. Method: The autoethnography research method was used in order to achieve the research objective. Results: First, I was faced a lack of expertise on music classes and a lack of expertise as a special teacher. Second, I was developed musical skills and knowledge to improve my expertise in music classes and accumulated practical knowledge through music classes. It also improved the quality of the class through reflective thinking and was able to continue to develop class expertise under social support and lay the foundation to try more diverse classes. Conclusion: Through this research, I was able to draw implications on nurturing the expertise of music teachers and improving the quality of music classes at a school for the visually impaired. The research findings are expected to provide the preliminary data necessary to enhance the quality of music classes at a school for the visually impaired.

        A Computer-based Finger-tapping System for Evaluating Movement of the Affected Hand Following Stroke: A Pilot Study

        The objective of this study was to develop a computer-based finger-tapping system and to investigate whether the system is effective for evaluating motor function by performing pilot tests of the effects of three interventions, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), peripheral sensory stimulation (PSS), and PSS combined with tDCS (PSS + tDCS), on the movement of the affected hand in stroke patients. The developed system consists of two parts, the finger-tapping input system and finger-tapping analysis software. The finger-tapping input system can detect the states of four buttons and transmit these states to the finger-tapping analysis software, which measures the reaction time. Three stroke patients participated in an experimental session to test the effects of each intervention on motor performance. Each session included three blocks for the determination of (1) baseline of motor performance (Base), (2) the motor performance after each form of stimulation (Pre), and (3) the motor performance following motor training and rest (Post). The results showed that the mean response times for all blocks (Base, Pre, and Post) did not differ significantly with tDCS and PSS, but significant decreases were found between Base and Post and between Pre and Post. In addition, there was no significant difference among the interventions at Pre; however, PSS + tDCS facilitated considerably greater training effects than tDCS or PSS at Post. The developed system was able to evaluate motor function through motor training after a combination of PSS and tDCS. In the near future, we plan to apply the developed system to more patients with relatively good motor function to extend our findings to a general outcome, and expect that these results could be used to design an appropriate rehabilitative approach.

        A 39-year-old Korean woman with prior laparoscopic left salpingo-oophorecetomy, presented with unexpected ovarian malignancy which was resulted from the ruptured clear cell carcinoma from the left ovary during her surgery. She is self-employed and did not want a laparotomic restaging surgery to slow her down. We performed laparoscopic restaging surgery including peritoneal washing cytology, LAVH with RSO, laparoscopic pelvic lymphadenectomy, laparoscopic para-aortic lymphadenectomy, omentectomy, appendectomy, and multiple peritoneal biopsies. The final diagnosis was FIGO stage IC of clear cell carcinoma from the left ovary, and then she had four cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy.

      • Input Command Generation for Flexible Systems with 2nd-Order Actuators

        In this paper, an input shaping command is presented to generate on-off commandswhere actuator operation is affected by non-linear influence such as electronic dynamics, power transmission inertia and other non-ideal effects. These effects can cause large residual vibration to the flexible systems for rest-to-rest operations. An exact solution with a vector diagram approach is developed by approximating all effects of the control system nonlinearities to the response function of 2nd-order system. The exact commands are analyzed to command design parameters, residual deflection magnitude and sensitivity compared to a conventional input shaper. The input shaped commands are numerically evaluated using a single mode system and experimentally validated with a bridge crane.

      • A comparative cross sectional study on cosmetic outcomes after single port or conventional laparoscopic surgery

        The primary objective of this study was to compare cosmetic outcomes and patients` satisfaction between women underwent single port laparoscopic surgery (SP-LS) or conventional laparoscopic surgery (conventional-LS). The secondary objective was to evaluate the cosmetic effect of SP-LS in women with abdominal scars from prior surgeries Patients who were followed up after SP-LS or conventional-LS for gynecologic disease were included. Cosmetic outcome was evaluated at least six months after surgery. Objective and subjective scar analysis were performed using the Vancouver scar scale, the patient and observer scar assessment scale (POSAS), and a visual analog scale (VAS). Overall satisfaction with the surgery was evaluated with VAS. 130 women were included in this study, with 65 women in each group. No difference in objective scar assessment for only umbilical scar was showed. In the subjective scar assessment and satisfaction with the surgery, SP-LS group was more satisfied. SP-LS group with abdominal scar had higher satisfaction in overall satisfaction with the scar SP-LS offers better cosmesis and overall patients` satisfaction with surgery in women with gynecologic disease. SP-LS also seems to have considerable cosmetic benefit in women with abdominal scars from prior surgeries.

        중장년 1인 가구의 사회경제적 박탈이 우울에 미치는 영향에 관한 종단 연구: 다인 가구와의 비교를 중심으로

        본 연구의 목적은 1인 가구 중장년과 다인 가구 중장년의 사회경제적 박탈과 우울의 변화궤적을 살펴보고, 두 집단 간에 차이가 있는지 확인하는 것이다. 또한 사회경제적 박탈이 우울에 영향을 미치는지 종단적 관계를 검증한다. 분석 자료는 한국복지패널 자료 제7차(2012년)부터 제11차(2016년) 중 1인 가구와 다인 가구 총 4,212건을 활용하였다. 두 집단 간의 차이를 검증하고자 잠재성장모형으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 1인 가구의 사회경제적 박탈과 우울이 다인 가구 보다 높게 나타났으며, 집단 간 유의한 차이가 있는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 다인 가구의 사회경제적 박탈은 시간의 흐름에 따라 감소하는 경향을 보였으나 1인 가구는 유의하지 않았다. 나아가 1인 가구와 다인 가구 모두 사회경제적 박탈이 높을수록 우울도 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 1인 가구와 다인 가구 중장년의 사회경제적 박탈과 우울의 관계를 심층적으로 규명하였다는데 의의가 있으며, 중장년 1인 가구에 대한 복지적 개입의 필요성을 제시하였다. The aim of study to compare the change trajectory of socioeconomic deprivation and depression the middle-aged in the single-person household and that in the Multi-person Household and to confirm the difference between the two groups. It is to examine the Longitudinal relationship between socioeconomic deprivation and depression. To do so, we studied 4,212 single-person household and Multi-person Household cases in the 7th to 11th Korea Welfare Panel Study (2012∼2016). To verify the difference between both groups, we go on analysis with the latent growth curve model. According to our analysis, it is confirmed that the socioeconomic deprivation and depression of single-person households is higher than those of Multi-person Household and thus there is meaningful difference between both groups. Also, we reveal that the socioeconomic deprivation of Multi-person Household tends to decease while that of single-person household doesn’t decline significantly. Furthermore, it appears that the socioeconomic deprivation is directly proportional to the depression in both groups. This research has meaningful significance in that we discussed in depth the relationship between the socioeconomic deprivation and depression of both groups, suggesting that welfare approach should be needed in the middle-aged in the single-person household.
