Coordination constructions have widely been studied in various linguistic theories. Most of these studies have dealt with extractions in coordination constructions by some constraints with movement. For example, these constructions have been approached with Coordinate Structure Constraint by Ross in 1967. On the other hand, in Generalized Phrase Structure Grammar(GPSG) new alternatives are suggested with some principles such as Head Feature Principle and Foot Feature Principle. The purpose of this study is to analyze these constructions with non-constituent coordination schema within Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar(HPSG) framework, allowing each conjunct daughter to share the value of its mother.

Background and Objectives:Fibrous dysplasia of the paranasal sinus is rare. It is usually secondary to the extension of disease from adjacent bones and rarely limited to the sinuses. The purpose of this study is to get an improved appreciation of the clinical features and courses of fibrous dysplasia involving paranasal sinuses. Subjects and Method:Medical records of 15 patients diagnosed as fibrous dysplasia involving paranasal sinuses from 1990 to 2004 were reviewed retrospectively. Clinical informa-tions including age of diagnosis, presenting symptoms, radiographic findings, treatment and clinical outcome for each patient were analyzed. The male to female ratio was 7:8. Their ages ranged from 7 to 68 with the median of 32. Seven patients were younger than 30 years old at presentation. Results:The mean duration of illness was 1 months. In the findings of CT, eight patients belonged to the sclerotic type, six to the pagetoid type, and one the tocystic type. Eight patients were polyostotic while the others were monostotic. The most commonly involved sinus was the sphenoid sinus followed by ethmoid sinus. Seven patients who had facial swelling, exophthalmos or nasal obstruc-tion underwent surgery, and in four of them, the lesion was in progression or recurred. Lesions in eight patients who were older than 30 years old and had no symptoms except headache did not progress thereafter. Conclusion:The progression of fibrous e patients are diagnosed with fibrous dysplasia over the age of 30 and do not have specific symptoms, there may be no need for surgical treatment. This paper begins to review some of the major proposals by GB framework that have been put forward on the subject during the last thirty years or so. As is well-known, there have been three major kinds of hypotheses proposed in this framework, that is, the null operator hypothesis, the topic movement hypothesis and the base-generation hypothesis. Therefore the main purpose of this article is an attempt to analyze topicalization in Korean within the framework of Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar, showing English topicalization in HPSG. Topic Constructions of Korean in HPSG can be described as a class of unbounded dependency constructions that have the relation of dependency between two element in a sentence, that can be thought of as strongly associated with (or filling) the gap or trace, and that capture the relation between the filler and the trace as one of coindexing. Topicalization of Noun Phrase with Nominative Case or Accusative Case can be treated with the analysis that deletes the given case and assigns new marker proper at the topic position based on the information of the context/back ground.

The Binding Theory has been widely studied in various linguistic theories. Most of these studies such as Government-Binding Theory and Generalized Phrase Structure Grammar have focused on how to analyze the Binding constructions only either by syntactic approach or by a few constraints. Accordingly these studies cannot provide an appropriate analysis to the examples which are containing somesemantic, pragmatic and contextual depen-dent elements. (1) John was going to get even with Mary. That picture of himself in the paper would really annoy her, as would the other stunts he planned. Examining a wide range English data like sentence (1), we can find that the GB binding theory, which is based on the configurational notion of c-command, is on the wrong track. The purpose of this study is to provide a novel way to deal with these data in Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar(HPSG) developed by pollard and Sag(1987, 1992) and many others. Here an alternative Binding Theory is presented which is based not on c-command, but rather on the relative obliqueness of grammatical relations. These notions, together with a variety of processing and discourse factors, have been argued to provide an account of English binding superior to that developed within GB or to Binding Theories based on the hierarchy of thematic relations first presented in Jackendoff(1972).

Maxillary Sinus Retention Cysts Protruding Into the Inferior Meatus

Although most of the maxillary sinus retention cysts are asymptomatic, a few of them increase in size and cause symp- toms. However, they rarely erode bony walls nor protrude into the inferior meatus. I present 2 cases with maxillary sinus retention cysts protruding into the inferior meatus by making a large defect on the medial wall of the maxillary sinus.

Most of these studies have not dealt with the coordination constructions with reflexives. Accordingly, these studies cannot provide an appropriate analysis to the coordinated construction where the subject is composed of the complex NP and has its reflexive pronoun in the same sentence. This paper first reviews the previous analysis on these constructions such as GB, Generalized Phrase Structure Grammar, Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar(HPSG). In particular, it shows how the AGR value of the coordinated subject NP depends on the conjunction. Finally this study is to analyze the constructions, where some reflexive or pronoun occurs with the above subject, by extending the INDEX feature structure into two subsort INDEX, that is INDEX for agreement and INDEX for Binding.(Namseoul University)

In this wort ER(electro-rheological) clutch and MR(magneto-rheological) clutch are devised and their performance characteristics such as response time and controllability are compared. As a first step, field-dependent yield stresses of ER and MR fluids are distilled in shear mode. For reasonable comparison between two clutches, a nondimensional design model is established by choosing same design parameters of gap size and number. Following the manufacturing of two clutches, field-dependent torque level, response time to step input, mechanical Power generation to electric power consumption are experimentally measured and compared. In addition, in order to investigate torque controllability of the clutches a sliding mode controller is formulated and experimentally realized. Control bandwidths of two clutches are identified and tracking control responses for desired torque trajectories are presented.
