This paper presents a technique forming a three-dimensional (3D) topographic model to predict environmental impact using GIS databases, employing the constrained Delaunay triangulation method and contour lines. Benchmark numerical tests demonstrate that compared to using Delaunay triangulation alone, the proposed technique reduces mesh-generation time and effectively manages the number of GIS inputs needed for accurate mesh resolution. Thus, this method proves beneficial for efficiently generating 3D topographic numerical models, particularly in large domains, enhancing environmental impact prediction capabilities.

This paper presents a novel method to determine sound power level(PWL) emitted by a travelling vehicle for road traffic noise simulation. The PWL is evaluated by the equivalent sound pressure level (SPL) measured by close proximity method and the sound power correction factor derived from the maximum SPL measured by pass-by method and the propagation attenuation of vehicle noise during the pass-by measurement. Using the method, we derive the empirical formula for PWL estimation in 1/1-octave and overall frequency bands for 8 vehicles (automobile, SUV, small truck, large bus, trailer, 3 dump trucks) tested at two road surfaces (dense graded asphalt, 30mm transverse tinning concrete) of Korean highway test road. The suggested approach, if securing sufficient data to represent the acoustic characteristics of all vehicle types, has il strong merit to be able to evaluate sound power levels for any combination of vehicle categories and traffic volumes.

The fault detection and diagnosis of rotating machinery widely used in plants including the ship are important for maintaining the performance of plants. Recently, the wavelet transform has been recognized an efficient method to detect a little variation of physical quantities by the synchronous localization of time and frequency domains using the translation and dilation of signals. In this paper, in order to develop efficient and reliable fault detection and diagnosis system of rotating machines, the performance of wavelet transformation to detect a little variation of machine status and neural network to diagnose the cause of machine faults are investigated and experimented.

This paper presents some advanced and supplemental methods to enhance the accuracy In case of calculating geometric divergence attenuation, attenuation by multiple screening structures, ground attenuation at unflat surfaces of sound during propagation outdoors by the methods specified in ISO 9613-2. Moreover, a calculation method for considering short-term wind effect, specified in ASJ Model-1998, is also introduced. To verity the accuracy of adopted methods, we have carried out highway traffic noise prediction and measurement at tile twelve locations appearing representative road shapes and structures, such as flat, retained cut, elevated, barrier-constructed roads. From the results, we have confirmed the predicted results show good correspondence with the measured at direct, diffracted and reflected sound fields within 30 m from the center of near side lane.

A successful design approach for noise barriers should be multidisciplinary because noise reduction goals influence both acoustical and non-acoustical considerations, such as maintenance, safety, physical construction, cost, and visual impact. These various barrier design options are closely related with barrier dimensions. In this study, we have proposed an optimal design method of noise barriers using simulated annealing algorithm, providing a harrier having the smallest dimension and achieving the specified noise reduction at a receiver region exposed to the noise due to Industry and infrastructure, to help a successful barrier design.

Mobility of structural foundations for shipboard equipments has a crucial design factor for developing advanced marine vessels, such as cruise ships, naval ships, and offshore structure, in terms of vibration and noise control. In this study, a mobility of a structural foundation for a shipboard diesel generator has been quantitatively assessed with the methods based on a finite element method and an empirical formula. For this purpose, the assessment procedures with finite element analysis and empirical formula have been summarized. Mobilities of structural foundations for a shipboard diesel generator have been numerically estimated by the methods. The results have been compared with those of impact tests for real ship structures.
