Recently, unconventional yeasts have become popular as fermentation starters in the brewing industry due to the growing consumer demand for aromatic diversity. Specifically, Schizosaccharomyces japonicus has been explored as a potential starter culture for beer and wine production because of its distinct brewing characteristics; however, its application in makgeolli fermentation has not been tested. Therefore, in the present study, two Sz. japonicus strains (SZJ-1 and SZJ-2) were isolated from natural sources, and their brewing characteristics for makgeolli fermentation were compared with those of commercial S. cerevisiae strain. Although the tested isolates showed a lower fermentation and carbon source consumption rate than control-, their overall alcohol fermentation characteristics were suitable for makgeolli production. Regarding flavor composition, Sz. japonicus-fermented makgeolli possessed more ester compounds (e.g., 2-phenylethyl acetate, ethyl acetate, and ethyl decanoate) than S. cerevisiae-fermented makgeolli. Therefore, Sz. japonicus can be used as an alternative culture starter in makgeolli fermentation.

In this paper, the 5 joint toggle link of a injection molding machine is analyzed. Considering toggle link kinematics and frictions at the pin joints, clamping forces for each cross head position are calculated. The maximum clamping force and the install position of a tail-stock are determined by the stiffness of links, plates and tie-bar. The kinematic results of a finite element analysis considering friction and stiffness are compared with measured results.
Robust controller for an autonomous vehicle with look-ahead and look-down information

For the lateral control of an autonomous vehicle, this paper proposes a linear-matrix-inequality (LMI)-based H_∞ control algorithm that utilizes the feedback of the lateral offset and target yaw angle at the preview point, which is effective for the fusion of look-ahead and look-down sensors. To verify the performance of this controller, lane change and circular lane tracking simulations are carried out in multi body dynamics. Against the uniformly random noises in position and yaw angle and the constant modeling uncertainties in mass and cornering stiffness, the robustness of the proposed algorithm is compared with the cubic curve method and the heading angle method at the look-ahead target lane.
