Background: Primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the salivary gland is a rare disease, and distinguishing primary SCC from metastatic SCC is difficult. This study investigated the histological and immunohistochemical differences between primary and metastatic salivary gland SCC to improve the accuracy of diagnosis and to explore the pathogenesis of this disease. Methods: Data of 16 patients who underwent surgery for SCC of salivary glands between 2000 and 2018 at Asan Medical Center were retrieved. Eight patients had a history of SCC at other sites, and eight patients had only salivary gland SCC. Immunostaining for p16, p53, androgen receptor (AR), gross cystic disease fluid protein 15 (GCDFP-15), and c-erbB2, as well as mucicarmine staining, were compared between the two groups. Results: Most tumors were located in the center of the salivary glands with extraparenchymal extension. The histology of primary SCC of the salivary gland was consistent with moderately differentiated SCC with extensive desmoplastic reaction and peritumoral inflammation. Involvement of the salivary gland ducts and transition into the ductal epithelium were observed in two cases. Metastatic SCC resembled the primary tumor histologically and was associated with central necrosis. Both groups exhibited negative mucin staining. Two, one, and one primary SCC case exhibited AR, GCDFP-15, and c-erbB2 positivity, respectively. Conclusions: A subset of primary SCCs originated in salivary ducts or was related to salivary duct carcinoma. Distinguishing primary from metastatic SCC of the salivary gland is difficult using histologic features and immunoprofiles. A comprehensive review of the medical history is essential.
New Naming for Old Nation: Understanding ‘Baedal’ in Narrating Korean Modern Identity

This study explores the original terminology and meaning of Baedal in the early 20th century: the dawn of Korean nationalism and identity. Baedal first appeared in the script of the Korean native religion, Daejongism. Established in 1908, it swiftly became a symbolic prefix of a word to represent Koreanness within and even outside the religion within this context of co-relations between Baedal and Daejongism. This research shows that the idiom played a critical role in forming modern Korean national identity by codifying Koreans’ mythical narratives regarding a founding father, Dangun, and his epoch. The term spread because of the great efforts of the then Korean nationalists, gaining its historicity in the myth; although there might have been exaggeration and embellishments. Standing for the Bright Land, Baedal was located deeply in the heart of the then Koreans oppressed by Imperial Japan, serving as a set of identity components: a new name for binding a population based on ethnic homogeneity, dignity as the chosen people, nostalgia over the golden age, and virtues for what the Korean nation must be after independence.

This study analyzed elementary social studies assessment plan and teacher’s perception of the plan. It also proposed a method to find and improve problems in assessment plan stage. Assessment plans for the first semesters were surveyed among 5th and 6th graders of 130 schools in Jeonju and northern Seoul. Survey results conducted on 189 teachers were then analyzed. As a result, main problems in the social studies assessment plan were confusion of areas and terms, unbiased assessment of specificcontents, and lack of concrete evaluation criteria. Teachers were struggling in providing assessments with appropriate feedback for students and linking them to actual context. Teachers also found that it was hard to execute the assessment plan written at the beginning of the semester that lacked useful reference materials. In order to improve the quality of elementary social studies assessment, it is necessary to develop and disseminate social studies assessment plan templates with various examples and develop integrated evaluation tasks that link elements of various curriculum standards with an analytical rubric.. 본 연구는 초등학교 사회과 평가 계획과 교사 인식을 분석하여 평가 계획 단계에서 문제점을 찾고 이를 개선하는 방안을 제안하였다. 이를 위해 전주와 서울 북부지역에 있는 130개교의 5, 6학년 1학기 평가 계획을 조사하고, 현직 교사 189명을 대상으로 설문 조사하여 그 결과를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 사회과 평가 계획에서는 영역 및 용어의 혼란, 특정 내용에 편중된 평가, 구체적인 평가 기준 부재가 주요 문제로 밝혀졌다. 교사들은 학생에게 적절한 피드백을 제공하고 실제적 맥락과 연계된 평가를 추구하나, 학기 초에 완성해야 하는 부담감과 참고할만한 양질의 자료 부족 등으로 평가 계획 작성에 어려움을 겪고 있는 것으로 드러났다. 초등 사회과 평가의 질을 높이기 위해서는 다양한 예시가 담긴 사회과 평가 템플릿과 분석적 루브릭을 갖춘 여러 사회과 성취기준의 요소를 연결한 통합적 평가 과제를 개발하고 공유할 필요가 있다.

In the industry, accelerated corrosion test is used for the life time prediction. When anti-corrosion test proceeds in real environments, it is difficult that we predict and evaluate the corrosion life time because of the long test time such as 10 years or more time. Accelerated corrosion test and Salt spray test are able to test corrosion life time of products in the laboratory instead of outdoor corrosion test. Experimental procedure is selected for the corrosion standard specimen, exposure of the specimens, measurements of the mass loss and evaluating the mass loss data. As a result, the acceleration factor of the accelerated corrosion test to the outdoor corrosion test is 414.8. Therefore we can predict the corrosion life time of carbon steel during a short time period.
