CuO-CeO_2 catalysts were prepared by coprecipitation and used for selective oxidation of carbon monoxide in the presence of excess hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The catalysts were characterized by means of XRD, XPS and H_2-TPR. The CuO-CeO_2 catalysts exhibited high catalytic activity in selective oxidation of CO, showing markedly enhanced catalytic activities due to the solid solution of Cu-Ce-O. Only CeO_2 peaks were shown in all the catalysts, and as the increase of Cu loading, the lattice constant of CeO_2 (111) decreased.

Au/CeO₂catalysts were prepared by deposition-precipitation and appled for water gas shift reaction supplied with oxygen in the presence of excess hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The catalysts were characterized by means of XRD, H₂-TPR CO chemisorption and XPS. The Au/CeO₂catalysts exhibited high catalytic activity in water gas shift reaction supplied with oxygen, showing markedly enhanced catalytic activities due to highly dispersed Au particles over CeO₂with small crystallite size and large surface area.

Au/MOx(M=metal) were used as effective catalysts for preferential oxidation (PROX) of carbon monoxide in the presence of excess hydrogen. In this study, as the support of Au catalyst, CeO₂ which had small crystallite size showed high activity for PROX. XPS studies showed that metallic gold was formed when catalysts were reduced by hydrogen and it was active species. Furthermore, Au particle size should be decreased in order to give high activity being confirmed through XRD and TEM studies. TPR data also showed that the highly active catalyst having well-dispersion had higher reducibility than the others.
