Recently, many researches have been performed to improve the combustion and emission in a D.I.Diesel engine. Especially reduction of the soot formation in the combustion chamber is the essential to acquire the improvement of the emission performance. This emission of the diesel combustion is effected by the characteristics of air-fuel mixing. Therefore, the optical measurement technique such as LII and LIS were established in order to visualize the distribution of the soot and analyze the particle including spray in the combustion chamber. In this study, we developed the algorithm for calculating relative diameter and density of particle and applied this method to measure stimultaneously the distribution of soot and spray in a D.I. diesel engine. From this experiment, we found that the soot is existed in the rich region of spray and generated caused by incapable air fuel mixture.

Recently, many researchers have been studied a D.I. diesel engine because of the exhaust gas restriction and fuel consumption performance. It is well known that the fuel injection characteristics are the key factors on the diesel combustion and exhaust emission. In this study, the fuel injection characteristics of 5-hole injector and the combustion characteristics are investigated with the amount of fuel by means of the visualization method and visualization D.I. diesel engine system. As the results of the experiments, the spray pattern of the fuel injection and the diffusion flame of a D.I. diesel engine are clarified. In addition, combustion phenomena with operation conditions such as engine speed and engine load are made clear.
LII/LIS 기법을 이용한 층류확산화염 매연입자의 정량화

In this study, the quantification of soot particles in laminar diffusion flame with LII/LIS methods was performed. In these quantification, soot diameter, number density and volume fraction are included. For the quatification of soot particles, calibration tests are needed and the development of algorithm has to be performed. So, in this study, extinction and scattering test at co-flow burner were performed to acquire calibration data. And algorithm for LII/LIS simultaneous measurement for the quantification of soot were developed. The algorithm, which was the quantification of simultaneous photographing using one ICCD camera, to measure LII/LIS signal simultaneously, the best fitted light intensity and acquisition time was needed.
