The purpose of this study was to evaluate the removal efficiency of organic matter, nitrogen, and phosphorus throughthe biofiltration process using oyster shells as the main carriers, which are byproducts of aquaculture and photosyntheticbacteria and are useful micro-organisms in small-scale sewage treatment. Pilot test results of the biofiltration processproposed in this study are similar to those of controls using suspended growth in the T-I region, which is the averageload of organic matter removal efficiency according to load and water temperature variation. By contrast, the removalefficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus was improved regardless of changes in temperature. Particularly, in the T-Ⅱ region,which is constantly under low load, the removal efficiencies of organic matter (+10.8%), nitrogen (+10.9%), andphosphorus (+23.4%) under low water temperatures were relatively high compared to controls.

In this paper, we propose a new method which estimates the initial position of a PM synchronous motor (PMSM) using an incremental ecoder. in cremental encoders are widely used in detecting rotor position since they are inexpensive. At starting procedure, however, the incremental encoders cannot give the information of the absolute rotor position. Hence, additional absolue encoder, which has $60^{\circ}C$ resolutio electrically, and signal lines called U, V, W, have been used in practical systems for starting injection of a high frequency test current. It does not require any additional information such as U, V, W signals for starting procedure and allows for cheap and simple implementation. Experimental results show that the proposed method can estimate the initial rotor positon with higher accuracy than the conventional method using U, V, W signals.

This study has been made to prepare essential formula to be utilized in planning irrigation earth dam and to contribute for preliminary study of agricultural water resources in the future by analysing the structural characteristics and observing variation trends of the reservoirs planned already. In this study 123 reservoirs which had been either constructed or under construction during the period of recent ten years form 1970 to 1979 were taken as samples and a few factors of structural dimensions were analyzed to find their relations. The summarized results were as follows: 1. Highly significant correlation was obtained between Dam volume and its height & length and the formula (1)-(5)was derived, by which embankment volume of dam could be approximately caculated. 2. Nonsignificant correlation was found between Dam volume and reservoir storage capacity, however, it could be presented as formula (6)-(10), by which embankment volume of dam could be approximated. 3. Embankment dam volume of the reservoirs planned in the years of 1970's was remarkably decreased than those in 1960's during these periods theory of soil mechanics had been barely introduced and applied in Korea. 4. In general, the reservoirs planned in 1960's have less storage efficiency than those in 1950's and the reservoirs planned in 1970's show less storage efficiency than those in 1960's. By this trend, the irrigation earth dam to be proposed in the future can be clearly assumed to have the bad natural condition in respect of dam site topography.
