The purpose of this study is to show the potential and actual effectiveness of child restraint system(CRS). The difference of adult and child in the restraint theory and amended regulation of CRS(FMVSS 213) were reviewed. and a total of six types of restraint system were tested on the sled simulator to investigate what effect of CRS to the child occupant protection. The results of the head injury criteria(HIC) and chest g's were compared and discussed for six types of CRS.

A simulation model of a belt integrated seat(BIS) is established using a computer simulation program ATB (Articulated Total Body). The model is validated by the well consistent with the dynamic load test with a conventional belt integrated seat. Hyper-ellipsoid elements are used to improve the accuracy of a simulation model and numerical results show the better performance of a BIS than a conventional seat for the view point of a occupant safety. A parameter study of seat belt is performed to choose 'the proper belt for a BIS.

A simulation model of a belt integrated seat(BIS) is established using a structural analysis and design program GENESIS. The model is validated by the well consistent with the static load test and a reference with a conventional seat. The Loading conditions are defined by the belt forces form the dynamic load test of a conventional belt integrated seat The seat components are reinforced to carry the crash force and a trend of the design of belt integrated seat is proposed through the process of structural optimization.
