The dynamic tests(sled tests) were conducted to evaluate occupant protection characteristics and features due to deployment of driver air bag under the different test conditions as FMVSS 208 S13(air bag depowering). The paper presents discussions for the trend of regulations and standards related to the air bag restraint system in the U.S. Especially, this paper is presented to discuss the test results due to the air bag depowering standard procedure.

The purpose of this study is to show the potential and actual effectiveness of child restraint system(CRS). The difference of adult and child in the restraint theory and amended regulation of CRS(FMVSS 213) were reviewed. and a total of six types of restraint system were tested on the sled simulator to investigate what effect of CRS to the child occupant protection. The results of the head injury criteria(HIC) and chest g's were compared and discussed for six types of CRS.

In this study. to investigate occupant protection characteristics of lightweight cushion frame seat. two kinds of the production seats(steel and BMW seat) and the lightweight seat were tested on the sled simulator. The sled test results of three different seating systems were compared and discussed for their‘ occupant protection characteristics. Also. the static strength and dynamic impact tests were conducted to evaluate satisfaction of safety standards for the steel and lightweight seat.
Diffusion Characteristics of Iodide in a Domestic Bentonite of Korea

압축 벤토나이트에서 핵종이동은 확산에 의해 지배된다. 국산 벤토나이트에 대한 음이온핵종의 확산 특성 규명을 위해서 요오드이온을 대상으로 관통확산실험을 수행하였다. 대상매질은 동해안 지역의 벤토나이트를 사용하였으며, 실험용액은 합성 모의지하수에 I-125를 첨가하여 사용하였다. 압축 벤토나이트의 충전밀도는 1.2, 1.4, 1.7Mg/㎥등 세가지로 하였다. 요오드이온의 겉보기확산계수와 유효확산계수는 충전밀도가 증가함에 따라 감소하였고, 이들 확산계수의 값은 각자 3.80-7.12$\times$$10^{-11}$ $m^2$/s와 1.25-7.97$\times$$10^{-12}$ $m^2$/s의 범위에 있었다. 실험결과, 겉보기확산계수는 벤토나이트의 공극구조에 의존하였으며, 유효확산계수는 공극구조는 물론 핵종확산이동에 이용된 유효공극율에 의해 좌우되었다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 결과는 처분장안전성평가의 기초자료로 활용될 것이다. The transport of radionuclides in a compacted bentonite is dominated by diffusion. Through-diffusion tests for iodide were performed to investigate the diffusion characteristics of anionic radionuclides in a domestic bentonite. The bentonite used was sampled from the southeastern area of Korea and the solution was synthetic groundwater spiked with a tracer of I -125(as Na$^{125}$ I). The dry densities of compacted bentonite were 1.2, 1.4, and 1.7 Mg/㎥. The apparent diffusion coefficients and the effective diffusion coefficients of the iodide decrease with increasing dry density. The values were from 3.80 to 7.12$\times$10$^{-11}$ $m^2$/s for the apparent diffusion coefficients and from 1.25 to 7.97$\times$10$^{-12}$ $m^2$/s for the effective diffusion coefficient, respectively. The experimental results also showed that the apparent diffusion coefficients depended on the pore structure of compacted bentonite and the effective diffusion coefficients were attributed to the pore structure and the effective porosity that represents the available pathway for the diffusional transport of iodide. The results obtained will be used as basic data for the safety assessment of a repository.

중저준위 방사성폐기물 처분장 되메움재 후보물질로 제안되고 있는 국산 천연점토와 분쇄암석의 혼합물의 수리특성을 조사하였다. 혼합물의 수분함량 변화에 따른 혼합물의 밀도 변화를 조사하여, 동일 압축력 하에서 최대밀도를 얻을 수 있는 최적수분함량을 찾고자 하였으며, 혼합물 중의 점토함량에 따른 수리전도도 변화를 조사하였다. 혼합물 중 점토함량이 감소할수록 얻어 지는 최대밀도가 증가하였으며, 최적수분함량도 보다 명확해졌으나, 혼합물의 밀도는 수분함량에 그다지 민감하지 않았다. 혼합물의 수리전도도는 점토 함량이 감소할수록 증가하여 건조밀도 1.2 Mg/㎥ 일 때 100% 점토인 경우의 3 $\times$ $10^{-12}$ m/s에서 25% 점토함량의 경우에는 7 $\times$ $10^{-10}$ m/s로 증가하였으나, 건조밀도가 1.5 Mg/㎥ 일 때에는 25% 점토함량의 경우에도 5 $\times$ $10^{-12}$ m/s 의 낮은 값을 유지하였다. 혼합물의 수리전도도 추장을 위한 유효점토건조밀도 개념이 제안되었으며. 이 개념은 다양한 건조밀도와 분쇄암석 함량을 가진 혼할물의 수리전도도를 잘 설명할 수 있었다. The hydraulic properties of domestic natural clay/crushed rock mixture suggested as a candidate backfill material for the low and intermediate level waste repository were investigated. The dry density-water content relationship was studied to define an optimum water content that gives a maximum attainable dry density at constant compaction pressure. The hydraulic conductivities of clay/crushed rock mixture as a function of clay content were also measured. As the clay content decreased, the maximum attainable dry density increased and the optimum water content became more distinct. However the attainable density is not significantly sensitive to water content. The hydraulic conductivities of the mixture increased from 5 $\times$ 10$^{-12}$ m/s to 7 $\times$ 10$^{-10}$ m/s with clay content decreasing from 100 wt.% to 25 wt.% at dry density of 1.2 Mg/㎥. In case of dry density of 1.5 Mg/㎥, they maintain the lower values of 5 $\times$ 10$^{-12}$ m/s even at 25 wt.% clay content. The concept of effective clay dry density was suggested to estimate the hydraulic conductivity of the mixture. It was shown that the effective clay dry density concept can explain welt the hydraulic conductivities of the mixtures with various dry density and crushed rock content.

In the present study, a feasibility to fabricate ceramic powder filled epoxy compound for ultrasonic attenuation as a net shape was studied. A compression molding as a method of net shape fabrication was used. Using an immersion pitch-catch technique, attenuation properties of the fabricated ceramic powder filled epoxy compound were measured and analyzed.

In this study, to evaluate performance and characteristics of the seat belt restraint systems, three models of these system were subjected to 30mph sled tests, using Korea Standard(KS) R 4027 and ECE No.16 standard procedures. Also, the results of the occupants protection characteristics of a ELR type seat belt due to the various speed of sled test were compared.
