Selective breeding and hybridization were attempted to improve shiitake(Lentinus edodes) strains for bed-log cultivation, and the results obtained are as follows. 1. Thirty five strains collected in Korea and abroad were cultivated for one generation(five years) and. fruit body yields were estimated by the amounts produced from 1㎥ of oak tree(Quercus mongolicai logs. Thus, three high-temperature type strains including FRI 177 showing productivity of 139㎏/㎥log, two mid-temperature type strains including FRI 188 of 120㎏/㎥log, and seven low-temperature type strains including FRI 187 of 96㎏/㎥log were selected as superior strains. 2. Twelve hybrid strains confirmed as independent strains through indoor-test with hybrid strains made by Di-mon mating method were cultivated for five years(one generation). Among them, FRI 182 and FRI 181 were turned out to be superior strains. FRI 182 of high-temperature type showed the yield of 108㎏ per 1㎥logs and FRI 184 of low-temperature type produced 103㎏/㎥log. 3. There were no significant differences in productivity among high-, mid- and low-temperature types, but some differences appeared among strain groups. The correlation was not shown in productivities between bed-log and sawdust cultivations.

For cultivation on sawdust-bed of oak-mushroom until present time, inoculation of spawn on sawdust bed has been performed by sawdust spawn. But, liquid spawn may have advantages for rapid mass production of spawn, and now, sawdust-cultivation by liquid spawn inoculation should be applied instead of sawdust spawn. Therefore, investigations were performed to evaluate the effect of sawdust-cultivation by liquid spawn inoculation. The results were as follows : 1.When 11 kinds of liquid media were applied, the oak-mushroom culture medium was the most excellent in growth. Most suitable temperature at PDA was 25℃, and 22.5-27.5℃ in range were optimal for liquid culture. In liquid culture, amount of mycelial growth increases rapidly up to 40 days of cultivation. Incubation at fermentor brought yield of 106㎎ dry mycelia per 40㎖ media after 17 days. 2.In 1ℓ -spawn bottle, growth of mycelium by inoculation of 20㎖-liquid spawns were faster than 6g-sawdust spawn in spread of mycelia. On 2kg-bag culture, inoculations of 10㎖-, 20㎖- and 30㎖-liquid spawns were all slower than 20g-sawdust spawn in mycelial spread. So, amount increasement in ampunt of liquid spawn should be discussed. Yields of mushrooms until third sproutings of 2kg-bag culture were 580g in 30㎖-liquid spawn inoculation, but 510g, 486g and 470g from 20g-sawdust spawn, 20㎖-liquid spawn and 10㎖-liquid spawn, respectively. Thus, 30㎖-liquid spawn inoculation was highest in yield. Key words : oak-mushroom, sawdust-bed, liquid spawn.

This study was carried out to investigate the suitable conditions to grow pine mushroom (Tricholoma matsutake S.) by surveying environmental factors within the fairy rings in survey plat located in Youngdog, Bongwha, Yangyang and Namwon district. According to the results of survey, Distribution of the fairy rings (ring-shaped place where mushroom occurs) were more frequent in the west, southwest and south side of a mountain. Of the fatal fairy rings surveyed about 60% were located within 25 meters from the mountain ridge. Fairy rings spread wider to the mid-hillside in west and south direction. As to soil, over 80% was sandy loam and almost 70% was within the range of 30cm depot. Mast pine mushroom were found in pure red pine (Pinus densiflora) forest stand with an extream exception of mixed forest stand with red pine. Crown density was comparatively, high, between 50% and 80% coverage. The vegetation cover of the under storey was chiefly composed of shrubs and grasses with tow density, and the thickness of A˚ layer of most fairy ring was below 4cm.

Minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of griseofulvin, imidazole derivatives such as ketoconazole, econazole, miconazole and itraconazole on 52 strains of Trichophyton ruhrum, 22 strains of T. mentagraphytes, 10 strains of Microsporum spp. and 1 strain of Epidermophyton floccosum were determined after one week of incubation at 25C on Sabouraud dextrose broth. The results were summarized as followes : 1. The MICs of griseofulvin against 4 different tinea pedis fungi were ranged from 10-100mcg/ml. This values indicated that effectiveness of antifungal activity were relatively lower than those of three other imidazole derivatives such as ketoconazole, econazole, miconazole and one itraconazole. 2. Out of three imidazole derivatives, econazole had relatively higher inhibitory concentrations with 0.1-10mcg/ml against all tinea pedis isolated. 3. Out of 5 antifungal agents, itraconazole which is trizole derivatives showed the highest inhibitory activity with 0.1-10mcg/ml against all tinea pedis tested. 4. These results indicated that inhibitory activity of griseofulvin against tinea pedis were lower than those of four other antifungal agents tested. But these four antifungal agents such as ketoconazole, econazole, miconazole and. itraconazole were effective against tinea pedis tested.
