원자내부 미시세계와 우주바깥 거시세계의 기원을 밝혀내는 놀라운 노력의 결과로 지금까지 60여명의 고에너지물리학자에게 전체 노벨물리학상의 약 1/3이 수여되었다. 올해도 어김없이 노벨물리학상은 이 분야를 지목하여 폴리처(David H. Politzer), 그로스(David J. Gross), 윌첵(Frank Wilczek)에게 수여되었다.수상자들은 모두 필자와 공동연구를 했었고, 개인적으로 잘 알고 지내는 학자들이다. 이들의 업적을 에피소드와 함께 소개하고자 한다

In this paper, we'd like to briefly introduce Korean common speech database, which project has been started to construct a large scaled speech database since 2002. The project aims at supporting the R&D environment of the speech technology for industries. It encourages domestic speech industries and activates speech technology domestic market. In the first year, the resulting common speech database consists of 25 kinds of databases considering various recording conditions such as telephone, PC, VoIP etc. The speech database will be widely used for speech recognition, speech synthesis, and speaker identification. On the other hand, although the database was originally corrected by manual, still it retains unknown errors and human errors. So, in order to minimize the errors in the database, we tried to find the errors based on the recognition errors and classify several kinds of errors. To be more effective than typical recognition technique, we will develop the automatic error detection method. In the future, we will try to construct new databases reflecting the needs of companies and universities.

Region-of-Interest is the region within the image selected for the users needs. The development of multimedia has made the expectation of image telecommunication higher, but the usage of the image, image transmission time, and image storage create problems. When transmitter or the receiver stops transmission at some point, we can still see the general image and the ROI maintains better image quality if the ROI is specified beforehand. In this paper, three methods are proposed and constructed for the transmission of ROI. In the first method, the ROI and the background are separated and then encoded as described above. The second method is to encode without separating the ROI and the background. The masked region is scaled and the coefficients are increased, then the region is transmitted first. The third method is the loseless coding of the ROI. For loseless coding, real number tap cannot be restored perfectly due to the rounding error, so the method of using integers is used. The proposed method shows a better performance than EZW even in case of ROI's PSNR at quality of 40 dB.
Synthesis and Characterization of the Layered $K_2NiF_4$ Type $(C_nH_{2n+1}NH_3)_2PbCl_4$ System

Layered $K_2NiF_4$type ($C_nH_{2n+1}NH_3)_2PbCl_4$(n=6, 8 and 10) system, or alkylammonium tetrachloroplumbate compound, has been synthesized from $PbCl_2$ and $C_nH_{2n+1}NH_3Cl$ solutions under argon ambient pressure for 12hrs at $90^{\circ}C$. The crystal structure of the compound has been analyzed using X-ray powder diffaction in the range of $5^{\circ}{\leq}2{\theta}{\leq}55^{\circ}$, and all samples assigned to an orthorhombic system. Local distances of the Pb-Cl bond have been determined by Pb $L_{III}$-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy. The vibration modes of alkylammonium chains and the absorpton peaks of an excition have been examined by FT-IR and UV-Vis. reflectance spectra, respectively. The phase transition temperatures of the compounds have been studied by using DSC. According to the thermal analysis, two phase transition temperatures have been observed in the compositons of n=8 and 10.
무궁화 3호 위성을 통한 이동 위성멀티캐스팅 서비스 개발

이동 중에 무궁화 3호 위성을 추적하는 방송/통신 겸용 능동형 안테나 및 수신단말기가 개발 상용화 되면서 이동체 multicasting에 대한 서비스 산업의 길이 열리게 되었다. 이를테면 집 또는 공공장소 등 고정된 장소에서 지상파 방송이나 CATV, 위성방송에서 보내주는 광고 방송을 때와 장소에 관계없이 이동 중에 시청할 수 있게 됨을 뜻한다. 이것은 광고주가 자사 광고를 저렴한 비용으로 집중도가 높은 버스, 고속버스, 열차 등에서 대중에게 보낼 수 있게 됨을 의미한다. 또한 광고사업자, 광고주, 위성사업자, 제조업체(안테나 및 단말기)가 서로 이익을 낼 수가 있어 산업 연관 효과가 크다고 할 수 있다. 이에 KT는 광고사업자 및 제조업체와 상호 협력하여 이동체 위성 다지점 데이터 서비스를 개발하여 서울 ~ 인천간 공항 리무진 버스를 대상으로 시범 운용 중에 있다. Development and commercialization of a satellite receiver and active antenna to utilize the combined broadcasting and communication tracking feature of the Koreasat III (Mugungwha III) in mobile environment has paved the way for mobile multicasting business. This service allows customers enjoy various multimedia/broadcasting services anywhere, anytime, which have been available to fixed locations such as public broadcasting or cable television and satellite broadcasting services until this time. This services will furnish advertising agencies with new business opportunities since it can increase the exposure of advertisements to the general public dramatically with relatively low cost, especially in such highly populated places as public buses, trans, etc. Also many other industrial sectors such as stellite service providers, advertising agencies/sponsors, manufactures (antennas/satellite receivers), etc., will be benefited by the spread of this service. Currently KT is providing a trial service in the Seoul-Incheon airport limousine bus line in cooperation with an advertising agency and manufacturers.
뇌성마비 아동의 대운동 기능에 미치는 승마치료의 영향: 전향적 사례 시리즈 연구

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the sustained effects of a 3-week equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) program on motor function and muscle activity in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Methods: Nine children with CP (aged 5-15 years, Gross Motor Function Classification System stages I-III) participated in the study. We assessed Gross Motor Function Measure-66 (GMFM-66) scores, Pediatric Balance Scale (PBS) scores, BioRescue static posturography (RM Ingenierie) findings, core-muscle activity, and body composition before, immediately after, and 3 months after EAAT. Results: Of the nine included children, eight showed improvement in their GMFM-66 scores and six showed improvement in their PBS scores. No significant changes were observed in GMFM-66 and PBS scores immediately after the EAAT program compared to baseline. However, significant improvements were noted 3 months after EAAT in both GMFM-66 and PBS scores. Trunk skeletal muscle mass showed a significant increase immediately after EAAT. Balance, stability, and muscle activity during the gait cycle remained stable throughout the study. Conclusion: This study suggests that a short-period EAAT program can lead to long-term improvements in gross motor function for children with CP.
