Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are an important seed in the process of converting from traditional internal combustion engine vehicles to eco-friendly vehicles. HEVs that use two energy sources have a complex structure, and thus, these two energy sources work independently/alternatively/jointly depending on road driving conditions in order to improve fuel efficiency. As HEVs are developed, it is becoming important to understand the operating principles and to interpret fuel economy performance in simulations. This research used simulationX, a commercial multi-domain analysis S/W, to develop a model for a parallel type hybrid vehicles, and implement fuel efficiency analysis. First, the heat engine, battery, electric motor, power train, etc. were modeled in a simulationX environment based on the parallel hybrid vehicle structure. Then, fuel efficiency analysis simulation was performed on driving condition of NEDC (New European Driving Cycle). The developed simulationX model for parallel type hybrid vehicle is prepared to develop a controller for fuel efficiency improvement in the future work.

The semi-active suspension system controls the damping force of the vehicle damper to simultaneously improve the steering stability (handling) and ride comfort of the vehicle. In order to improve the ride comfort of a passenger car, performance analysis is required through modeling and simulation adaptation of a semi-active suspension system. This study used SimulationX, a commercial multi-domain analysis S/W, and modeling about 1/4 car of the semi-active suspension system. The damping force was controlled through a given performance of the damper. The developed SimulationX-based semi-active suspension system model is prepared for future controller development research.

Experiments have been conducted to measure the overall heat transfer coefficient for gas-solid fluidized double pipe heat exchanger with finned tube. The average particle diameters of alumina are used in 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.9mm. And the effects of average particle diameter, static bed height and flow velocity on overall heat transfer coefficient have been investigated. Also the heat transfer effect of fluidized bed was compared with that of single phase forced convection and that of heat exchanger with smooth tube.

Recently, environmental pollution has become a serious problem in industry, and many researches<br/> have been done in order to preserve the environment. The coolant, which promotes lubrication, cooling<br/> and penetration, contains chlorine, sulfur and phosphorus to improve the machining efficiency. These<br/> additives, which move around into the air during machining, pollute working. Therefore, many<br/> researches on how to reduce the amount of coolant during machining have been carried out. However,<br/> to reduce even small amount of coolant causes high temperature of a workpiece and it brings thermal<br/> defects.<br/> In this study, the experiments of wet & dry grinding using cooling methods (using coolant only,<br/> mist and compressed cold air only) are performed to solve the problem of environmental contamination<br/> and to get a better surface integrity of a workpiece by comparing surface roughness, roundness and<br/> residual stress.

As recently optical communication industry is developed, request of optical communication part is<br/> increased. Ferrule is very important part which determines transmission efficiency and quality of<br/> information in the optical communication part. Most of ferrule processes are grinding which request<br/> high processing precision. Particularly, concentricity and cylindricity of inner and outer diameter is very<br/> important. The co-axle grinding process of ferrule is to make its concentricity all of uniform before<br/> centerless grinding. Surface integrity of ferrule is affected by kind of grinding wheels, grinding<br/> conditions, and characteristic of workpiece and equipment. In this study, surface integrity of workpiece<br/> according to change of grinding wheel speed, feed rate, regulating wheel speed and grinding force is<br/> investigate to improve the concentricity and roundness of ferrule from many experiments.
