마비성 패독(paralytic shellfish poisoning, PSP)에 의한 중독은 와편모조류(Dinoflagellates)가 생성하는 saxitoxin (STX)이 이매패류 등의 먹이활동에 의해 축적되고 이를 사람이 섭취함으로써 발생한다. 최근 분석기술의 발전으로 와편모조류가 STX외에도 gonyautoxin (GTX) group 및 Nsulfo carbamoyl toxins (C toxin) group 등 다양한 유사체들 을 생성하는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 이에 CODEX, EFSA 에서는 STX외 유사체의 안전관리를 위해 STX 및 유사체를 STX group으로 관리하고자 하는 움직임을 보이고 있다 . 국내의 경우도 STX 유사체를 생성하는 조류의 발생이 이미 보고되고 있으며 실제 홍합에서 유사체의 오염사례도 소수 보고되고 있다. 따라서 국제적인 움직임에 발맞추어 국내에서도 STX 및 유사체의 group 관리를 위한 준비가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. 본 연구에서는 STX 및 유사체의 체계적인 모니터링 및 안전관리의 기반을 마련하고자 STX 및 유사체의 이화학적 특성, 생성조류, 국내외 발생현황, 독성 및 상대독성계수, 분석법, 오염현황 및 관리현황에 대한 폭넓은 검토를 수행하고자 하였다. Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) occurs when saxitoxin (STX), which is produced by harmful algae (dinoflagellates) and then accumulated in bivalve shellfish by filter-feeding, is consumed by humans. With recent advances in analysis technology, it has been reported that dinoflagellates also produce a variety of analogues such as the gonyautoxin (GTX) group and the N-sulfo-carbamoyl toxin (C toxin) group, in addition to STX. Accordingly, CODEX and the EFSA are stepping forward to manage STX and analogues as STX groups requiring safety management. In Korea, the occurrence of dinoflagellates producing STX analogues has already been reported, and contamination of analogues (GTX group, C toxin group) in live mussels has also been reported. In this study, in order to provide the basis for systematic monitoring and safety management of STX and analogues, their physicochemical characteristics, occurrence of dinoflagellates, toxicity and toxic equivalency factor, analytical method and occurrence were widely reviewed. This review is expected to contribute to strengthening the safety management of STX and its analogues.
식품의 품질 및 안전 관리를 위한 테라헤르츠 분광/영상 기술의 응용

Terahertz (THz) represents the portion of the electromagnetic radiation between the microwave and the infrared region and is within the frequency range of 0.1-10 THz. The ability of THz waves to pass through a wide variety of packaging materials, combined with their ability to characterize the molecular structure of many substances makes it an attractive tool for the application of food quality and safety management. This review provides current information on application of THz spectroscopy/imaging technology for food quality and safety management. The THz spectroscopy/imaging technology has been shown to be useful for detecting foreign bodies, vitamin/moisture, pesticides, antibiotics, melamine etc. However, major barriers to the adoption of THz spectroscopy/imaging for food quality and safety management include THz signal loss in heterogeneous food matrices, high costs of sources and detectors, and absence of a library for the wide group of food compounds. Further research is needed to overcome these barriers.
농산물 내 마이크로시스틴과 노둘라린: 독성, 분석법, 오염 경로, 오염 현황 및 관리 동향

펩타이드형 독소인 마이크로시스틴(microcystins, MCs) 과 노둘라린(nodularin, NOD)은 남조류라고도 알려진 시 아노박테리아에 의해 생성되는 2차 대사산물로, 독소에 오 염된 물, 토양 및 비료를 사용함으로써 농산물 내에 축적 되고 이를 사람이 섭취함으로써 건강상 위해가 발생할 수 있다. 최근 MCs과 NOD의 농산물 내 오염에 대한 관심 이 대두되며 국내외에서 여러 분석법을 기반으로 농산물 내 오염 수준을 조사하고 있다. 하지만 아직까지 수행된 연구가 많지 않으며, 특히 펩타이드형 독소 중 MCs의 분 석 연구에 치중되어 있거나 오염 취약 지역에서 재배한 농산물이 주로 오염도 조사에 사용되는 등 연구에 한계가 있으므로 MCs과 NOD의 관리를 위해서는 보다 많은 체 계적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다. 본 연구에서는 체 계적인 모니터링 및 안전관리의 기반을 마련하기 위해 MCs 및 NOD의 이화학적 특성, 독성, 분석법, 오염사례 및 관리현황에 대해 기술하였다. The peptide-type hepatotoxins microcystins (MCs) and nodularin (NOD) are secondary metabolites produced by cyanobacteria. MCs and NOD can bioaccumulate in agricultural products through toxin-contaminated water, soil, and manure and can cause human health risks through the consumption of agricultural products. Asinterest in the contamination of agricultural products by MCs or NOD has recently emerged, occurrence studies basedon various analysis methods for agricultural products have been conducted. However, studies on agricultural productsare still insufficient compared to research on drinking water and seafood. In addition, research is primarily conductedon agricultural products grown in areas where green algae occur, but not on marketed products. In the present study,we review the physicochemical properties, toxicity, analysis methods, occurrence studies, and management status ofMCs and NOD in agricultural products to build a foundation for systematic monitoring and safety management.
고체상 추출 전처리 및 HPLC-UV를 이용한 수산물 중 domoic acid의 분석

Domoic acid (DA), a neurotoxin produced naturally by diatoms, is responsible for incidents of amnesic shellfish poisoning. In this study, a modified analytical method was established to determine domoic acid in seafood using solid phase extraction cleanup and optimizing the amount of sample and extraction solvent to reduce interference effects. The modified method using high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection was validated using three seafood matrices (mussel, red snow crab, and anchovy) at three concentrations (1, 2, and 4 mg/kg) and compared to the Food Code method. Compared to the Food Code method, the modified method showed better performance in terms of linearity (R2 >0.999), detection limit (0.02–0.03 mg/kg), quantification limit (0.05–0.09 mg/kg), intra-/inter-day accuracy (86.2–100.4%), and intra-/inter-day precision (0.2–4.0%). Furthermore, the method was successfully applied for the analysis of 87 seafood samples marketed in Korea, and DA was detected at a low concentration of 140 µg/kg in one anchovy sample. These results suggest that the modified method can be used for routine determination of DA in seafood.
대형 액정 디스플레이(LCD TV)의 백라이트 광원 개발 동향

액정 디스플레이(LCD)의 대형화 및 저가격화와 더불어 전체 소비전력의 90% 이상, 모듈(module) 원가의 50% 이상을 차지하는 백라이트에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이에 기존의 냉음극 형광램프(CCFL)뿐만 아니라 원가 절감 및 특성 향상 기술로서 외부전극 형광램프(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp), 면광원(Flat Fluorescent Lamp), 발광 다이오드 (Light Emitting Diode), 전계 방출램프(Field Emission Lamp) 등에 대한 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있는 바 이와 같은 다양한 기술의 경쟁을 통하여 보다 고품질 및 저원가 백라이트의 개발이 가능하여 액정 디스플레이의 경쟁력을 확대시킬 것으로 예상된다.

Meju and nuruk (respectively soybean and malt) are traditional Korean fermentation starters that are vulnerable to contamination by harmful microorganisms such as aflatoxigenic fungi and their associated aflatoxins (AFs). In this study, Aspergillus spp. were isolated and identified from a total of 57 meju and 18 nuruk samples collected from Korean markets. Their potential aflatoxigenicity was investigated by examining the presence of three aflatoxin biosynthetic genes (aflO, aflP, and aflR) using multiplex polymerase chain reaction (mPCR) assays. Thereafter, aflatoxin production of isolates and the natural occurrence of AFs in meju and nuruk samples were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). A total of 177 Aspergillus isolates were identified and 130 isolates were obtained from meju samples. Of these, 25 isolates (19.2%) contained all three aflatoxin biosynthetic genes, and five (20%) of these isolates produced aflatoxins. Forty-seven of the Aspergillus isolates were obtained from nuruk samples, five of which (10.6%) expressed all three AF biosynthetic genes; however, none of these strains produced AFs. HPLC analysis showed that 88% (51/58) of the meju samples and 39% (7/18) of nuruk samples were not contaminated with AFs (below limit of detection). Among the isolates isolated from meju and nuruk, there were aflatoxigenic strains containing all three aflatoxin biosynthetic genes or producing aflatoxin in medium, but the frequency of aflatoxin contamination was low in the meju and nuruk samples.
