Exterior ballistics of a typical high-speed projectile is studied through a flow-visualization experiment and an unstructured grid Navier-Stokes computation. Experiment produced a schlieren photograph that adequately shows the characteristic features of this complex flow, namely two kinds of oblique cone shocks and turbulent wake developing into the downstream. A hybrid scheme of finite volume-element method is used to simulate the compressible Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes solution on unstructured grids. Osher's approximate Riemann solver is used to discretize the convection term. Higher-order spatial accuracy is obtained by MUSCL extension and van Albada type flux limiter is used to stabilize the numerical oscillation near the solution discontinuity. Accurate Galerkin method is used to discretize the viscous term. Explicit fourth-order Runge- Kutta method is used for the time-stepping, which simplifies the application of MUSCL extension. A two-layer k- ε turbulence model is used to simulate the turbulent wakes accurately. Axisymmetric flow and two-dimensional flow with an angle of attack have been computed. Grid-dependency is also checked by carrying out the computation with doubled meshes. 2-D calculation shows that effect of angle of attack on the flow field is negligible. Axi-symmetric results of the computation agrees well with the flow visualization. Primary oblique shock is represented within 2-3 meshes in numerical results, and the varicose mode of the vortex shedding is clearly captured in the turbulent wake region.
We examined the effects of ${\beta}$-glucan-reinforced PLGA film and scaffold on HDFs (human dermal fibroblast) attachment and proliferation. The PLGA films were prepared by simple solvent-casting method. The prepared films were grafted with $(1{\to}3)(1{\to}6)-{\beta}-glucan$ in various ratios after plasma treatment on surface. The surface of the film was characterized by contact angle measurement, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Fourier-transform infrared spectrophotometer (FT-IR). The amount of $(1{\to}3)(1{\to}6)-{\beta}-glucan$ in the prepared film was indirectly determined by phenol-sulfuric acid method. The HDFs (Human dermal fibroblasts) were used to evaluate the cell attachment and proliferation on PLGA specimens before and after plasma/${\beta}-glucan$ treatment. The result showed that the plasma treated groups exhibited more mont of ${\beta}-glucan$ might be grafted than the non plasma treated groups. Cell attachment was significantly enhanced in the plasma/${\beta}-glucan$ grafted group after 4 hours incubation (p<0.05) due to the improved hydrophilicity and cytoactivity effect of the ${\beta}-glucan$. The cell proliferation of plasma/${\beta}-glucan$ (2mg/ml) grafted group was the highest rate among the groups (p<0.05).

A current limiter was manufactured using a Josephson junction array to cut off an excessive current flowing into the SQUID sensor. The Fabricateed Josephson junction array was connected in series with a flux transformer that consists of a pick-up coil and an input coil, and the flux transformer was inductively coupled with a Double Relaxation Oscillation SQUID(DROS). The flux-voltage modulation curve was induced by applying an AC magnetic field whose magnitude was far smaller than that of the DC magnetic field. A change in the flux-voltage modulation curve of the SQUID was observed while the DC magnetic field was increased, to qualitatively examine the current limiting characteristic of the Josephson junction array. As a result, it was found that the SQUID flux-voltage modulation curve disappeared at the critical current of the Josephson junction array, which indicates that the Josephson junction array properly works as a current limiter.

A hybrid Eulerian-Lagrangian approach in the spray combustion modeling is being remarkably noticed recently. It is highly expected that there is a potential for the use of finite element methods in spray combustion because of there well-established methematical foundation and ease in modeling the complex geometries and boundary conditions.
In this research. the element refinement algorithm(h-method) applicable to hybrid Eulerian-Lagrangian FEM is studied. The h-method algorithm applicable to the simplified gas-phase energy equation and droplet equation is studied and the stability and convergence characterisric of numerical scheme is investigated. Various kinds of error indicator is compared and computational experiment is performed on this optimized numerical scheme.
A finite element model for the prediction of droplet vaporization and temperature distributions of axisymmetric unsteady sprays are presented. An Eulerian-Lagrangian method is employed to model the two-phase flow in the axisymmetric sprays. Calculations are performed using the finite element method for the gas phase with Eulerian coordinates and the second order
Runge-Kutta scheme for the liquid phase with Lagrangian coordinates. The vaporization phenomena is modeled by Ranz and Marshall formula. Numerical results are compared with
finite difference predictions.

A magnetically shielded room has been constructed for biomagnetic applications. The room has internal dimensions of 2 m(length)×2 m(width)×2.5 m(height) and it consists of high permeability Mumetal and high conductivity aluminum, utilizing ferromagnetic shielding and eddy current shielding. The dc shielding factor around the center of the room is above 60 ㏈, and the ac shielding factors at 1 and 10 ㎐ are larger than 60 and 80 ㏈, respectively. The internal magnetic field noise at 1 ㎐ is 500 fT/√㎐ and at 10 ㎐ is 100 fT/√㎐, and the field gradient noise at 1 ㎐ is below 7 fT/㎝√㎐. Successful measurements of cardiomagnetic fields using SQUID magnetometer and neuromagnetic fields using SQUID gradiometer have been done.
