This paper describes a diffuser-type polymeric micro pump with a hetero-shaped microfluidic channel for lab-on-a-chip(LOC) applications. The hetero-shaped micro fluidic channel is to generate the net flow by making difference in the fluidic resistance of input and output port. The channel consists of two regions with different cross-sectional shapes; a semi-circle (80 ㎛ in width) for input flow and a rectangle (200 ㎛ in width) for output flow. The micropump can be simply fabricated using polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS), which is widely used as a polymer material for microfluidic devices. Pneumatic pressure is periodically applied to the fabricated pump, which is evaluated in terms of duty ratio and frequency.

Thin-walled steel pipes in bending are vulnerable against buckling caused by compressive stress. However, when it is filled with concrete, the resistance against buckling increases and it comes to have high strength, high rigidity, and good ductility. This paper attempts to characterize the structural performance of steel-concrete composite system under flexural loading. And, the paper also describes experimental results on the bending behavior of concrete-filled tubular members with respect to parameters affects the ultimate strength and ductility. A simplified finite element model verified by the experimental results was used to carry out a parametric study. The test results and parametric study suggest that the contribution of concrete confinement to the ultimate strength and the ductility is significant.
