In the design of the high-speed railway vehicles of low noise and vibration characteristics, it is desirable to develop efficient and systematic procedures for analyzing large structures. In this paper, some finite-element modelling techniques and an efficient analytical method are proposed for this purpose. The analytical method is based on substructuring approach such as a free-interface method and a generalized synthesis algorithm. In final, the proposed approaches are applied to the finite-element modelling. modal analysis and subsequent model updating procedures of the high-speed railway intermediate trailers.

A new panel contribution analysis(PCA) method based on panel vibration control with several piezoelectric actuators has been suggested in order to identify the noise contribution of vehicle panels while driving. This method has an advantage in short test time compared to the conventional PCA method, since it doesn"t need to measure the acoustic transfer function on each panels. Besides this enables us to test the contribution of each panel simultaneously on driving. In this paper, we verify the validity of this method.

This paper describes a systematic study on the improvement of sporty sound quality. In order to choose the dominant factor in determining the sporty sound quality and then establish a sound target, a semantic differential method and factor analysis was conducted. In line with a noise path analysis, several parts such as intake, exhaust, engine mounting, sound absorption material and body stiffness were tuned via a combination of CAE simulations, e.g. DFSS, and evaluation test. Finally, this study exhibits a dynamic, linear, firing-order balanced sound which is suitable for a sports coupe.

A methodical study on the sound quality improvement for a sports coupe is discussed in this paper. First, various benchmarking test and sporty sound sample synthesis have been conducted for a target sound. Then the minimization of a structure-borne sound and the maximization of a powerful air-bone sound is tried with booming noise reduction, intake sound generator tuning and exhaust tuning. Finally, this methodology is applied to the newly released sports coupe.

Source decomposition is the foundation of vehicle sound engineering. The goal is to separate binaural sound<br/> recorded inside the passenger compartment of a vehicle during normal driving into the contribution of each major<br/> physical source. This paper describes the theory and definitions of a sound source decomposition method based on a<br/> multiple input coherence analysis (MICA). Finally, a practical example of the method is illustrated by identifying the<br/> road noise sources.
