Vol.13 No.3

The purpose of this study was to investigate the height of jump, angle of the ankle and knee, the angular velocity of the ankle and knee between two types of ballet shoes during a jump in the 1st position. The subjects were 5 female ballet majors of university in Busan the majors who have been dancing ballet for six years on the average. The conclusions are as follows: 1. The height of jump had no significant difference between two types of ballet shoes, and then the average of the height of jump with point shoes group ($20.24{\pm}4.62\;cm$) was a little higher than ballet shoes group ($17.50{\pm}4.05\;cm$). 2. The angle of the ankle had no significant difference for all events between two types of ballet shoes. The minimum angle of ankle joint was represented to $54.36_{\circ}$ at the E1 of the left ankle angle of the ballet shoes and the maximum value was showed $155.43_{\circ}$ at the E3 of the right ankle angle of the point shoes. 3. The angle of the knee had no significant difference for all events between two types of ballet shoes. The minimum angle of knee joint was represented to $99.54_{\circ}$ at the E1 of the left knee angle of the ballet shoes and the maximum value was showed $174.25_{\circ}$ at the E3 of the right knee angle of the point shoes. 4. The ankle velocity of the ankle had no significant difference for all events between two types of ballet shoes. The minimum angular velocity of the ankle was represented to 4.35 deg/s at the maximum height(E3) of the point shoes and the maximum value was showed 597.81 deg/s at the take-off(E2) of the right ankle angle of the point shoes. 5. The angular velocity of the knee had significant difference between two types of ballet shoes at the event 1(p<.05). The minimum angular velocity of the hee was represented to -1.68 deg/s at the maximum height(E3) of the point shoes and the maximum value was showed 360.25 deg/s at the take-off(E2) of the left knee angle of the ballet shoes. The other events had no significant difference between two types of ballet shoes.

Effects of Localized Muscle Fatigue and Whole Body Fatigue on Postural Control during Single-Leg Stance

Vol.24 No.2

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of localized muscle fatigue and whole body fatigue on postural controlduring single-leg stance after impairment induced by heel raise and the Harvard step test. Thirty-eight university students (19 men:age, 20.1±0.2 yrs; height, 175.0±5.23 cm; weight, 66.8±5.6 kg; body mass index, 21.8±1.7 kg/m2, 19 women: age, 20.6±1.1 yrs; height, 163.6±6.7 cm; weight, 58.8±4.6 kg; body mass index, 22.0±2.2 kg/m2) were participated in this study. Subjects performed a series of single-leg postural tasks prior to, following, and 24 hours after completing: heel raise or the Harvard step test. This study showed that the root mean squared distance and velocity in the anteroposterior and mediolateral planes of the center of pressure decreased significantly due to heel raise exercise-induced fatigue. Furthermore, the root mean squared distance in the anteroposterior and mediolateral planes, and the 95% confidence ellipse area of the center of pressure also decreased significantly 24hours after completing the Harvard step test. In conclusion, this study showed that both heel raise exercise- and Harvard step exercise-induced fatigue affects postural control during single-leg stance in AP and ML planes. Furthermore, this study suggests that changes in the postural control strategy may have occurred after the fatigue protocols during single-leg stance. Also vision can attenuate the postural deficits associated with the fatigues. In order to clarify these results, further studies using other equipment and variables are necessary.

Effects of Taekwondo and Walking Exercises on the Double-Leg Balance Control of Elderly Females

Vol.21 No.2

The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the effect of twelve-week Taekwondo and walking exercises on the double-leg balance control by dividing elderly females into Taekwondo, walking exercise and control groups. In total, 30 elderly females were randomly divided into Taekwondo, walking exercise, and control groups, with 10 subjects in each group. Subjects participating in this study were 10(age 69.4±5.8 years), 10(age 71.4±7.6 years) and 10(age 70.6±4.8 years) in the three groups, respectively. Although the AP measures were not significantly different among the groups and times, the ML RMS distance and ML velocity, among the ML measures showed a significant difference among the groups and times. Average velocity and 95% confidence ellipse area were also significantly different among the groups and times. Twelve-week Taekwondo and walking exercises were found to be effective in improving static balance control. Future studies on the development of a Taekwondo intervention program tailored for the elderly with many subjects conducted by using a long-term training program are expected.

        염창홍(Chang Hong Youm),장은미(Eun Mi Jang),박영훈(Young Hoon Park),손승(Sheng Sun),서국웅(Kuk Woong Seo) 한국여성체육학회 2007 한국여성체육학회지 Vol.21 No.4

The purpose of this study was to investigate comparative analysis of the static balance ability in skilled and unskilled yoga group on the center of gravity and center of pressure variables while executing it in single-leg stance with eyes open and closed through 3D video analysis and GRF system. The subjects participated in this study were 7 female yoga group and 7 female control group. The results are as follows: 1. The skilled group was lower than unskilled group in anteroposterior and mediolateral of the range and distance of COG during single-leg stance with eyes open and closed. 2. The single-leg stance with eyes open was lower than eyes closed in mediolateral of the range and distance of COG in both groups. 3. The skilled group was lower than unskilled group in the range and distance of COP during single-leg stance with eyes closed. In conclusion, the effect of yoga training affected the range and distance of COG during single-leg stance with eyes open and closed. However, the range and distance of COP was confined within single-leg stance with eyes closed.

Vol.22 No.2

The purpose of this study was to investigate how induced fatigue of the ankle joint muscles affects the capability and recovery of postural control during single-leg stance in healthy adults. The study population included 22 randomly recruited men and women. Postural control was performed on single-leg stance with eyes open. Ankle joint muscle was fatigued by repeated heel raises. According to the results of this study, for the anteroposterior variables, both men and women showed significantly increased center of mass velocity and decreased center of pressure 95% edge frequency immediately after fatigue. For the mediolateral variables, both men and women showed significantly increased center of mass velocity and decreased center of pressure 95% edge frequency immediately after fatigue. For the total variables, both men and women showed significantly increased center of mass averaged-velocity immediately after fatigue, and also, the center of pressure 95% confidence ellipse area significantly increased in women. Postural control variables were not significantly different for men and women at any time (Pre, P0, P10, and P20). In conclusion, the gender does not affect the capability and recovery after induced fatigue of ankle joint muscles. The effect of fatigue found for the anteroposterior and the mediolateral variables in both men and women. Furthermore ankle joint muscle fatigue led to change of postural control strategy from an ankle joint strategy towards a hip joint strategy. These changes are believed to damage postural control. The ankle joint muscle recovered from fatigue within 20 min during single-leg stance.
