This study was carried out to elevating the pregnancy rate in infertile patient by Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT). The GIFT program was performed from July 1988 to June 1990. Of the 131 cycles, the mean age of patient was 31.6 years and the mean duration of infertility was 5.3 years. 41 patients became pregnant, for a pregnancy rate of 31.3%. 5 preclinical abortions and 6 clinincal abortion was occured. 2 ectopic pregnanices and 1 combined pregnancy were occured. 7 twin pregnancies and 1 triplet were occured (multiple pregnancy rate;22.2%). 11 pregnancies were term delivered, 17 are ongoing pregnancies. GIFT may be considered as an alternative to in vitro fertilazation in infertility cases in which at least one fallopian tube is patent.

Treatment with low-dose follicle-stimulating hormone and laparoscopic laser vaporization is associated with a high rate of ovulation in anovulatory women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), but it is not clear which is better. We undertook a randomized controlled study to compare the effects of urinary FSH and hMG using a low dose regimen and laparoscopic laser vaporization of ovaries in sixty women with PCOS. Ovulation occured in 65% subjects and in 71.1% of cycles induced with FSH and in 70% of women and 76% of cycles of those treated with hMG and in 80% of women in laparoscopic laser vaporization of ovaries. A single dominant follicle developed in 62.2% (FSH) and 60% (hMG) of cycles, respectively. Eight singleton pregnancies occured in FSH, hMG group and 12 singleton pregnancies occured in laparoscopic laser vaporization. This study shows that selected patients with PCOS and by induced to ovulate and subsequently conceive by laparoscopically partially vaporizing their ovaries with laser energy.

This report describes a patient with lipoma arborescens presenting as hemarthrosis of a knee with intraosseous lesions. A 44-year old woman complained of pain and swelling of left knee. Arthrocentesis resulted in bloody effusion. Magnetic resonance images showed villous projecting frondlike fatty soft tissue proliferation in the suprapatellar pouch and ovoid intraosseous lesions in proximal tibia. The soft tissue mass was removed through arthroscopic synovectomy and the biopsy of the mass confirmed the diagnosis. The intraosseous lesions were not considered as a cause of hemarthrosis. We failed to find the exact cause of hemarthrosis. The patient remained asymptomatic after removal of the mass for 10 months. As far as we know, this is the first report of hemarthrosis associated with lipoma arborescens in korea.

Gout is an inflammatory arthritis characterized by recurrent attacks of inflammation caused by precipitation of monosodium urate crystals (MSU) in the joint and is associated with impaired quality of life. The incidence and prevalence of gout is increasing world wide due to the increasing size of the elderly population, kidney disease, diuretic use, dietary changes, and obesity. Furthermore, emerging evidence suggests that gout is strongly associated with metabolic syndrome and may lead to myocardial infarction, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and premature death. Urate nephropathy is also increasing. Thus, the overall disease and the economic burden of gout is substantial and increasing sharply. Although traditional urate lowering agents including allopurinol, probenecid, and benzbromarone have been available for many years, questions still remain about the optimal dosing regimen. Many patients remain undertreated for this potentially curable disorder. Fortunately, more scientific data and evidence for proper management of gout are available. Renewed interest in gout has led to advances in dietary advice and development of new therapeutic options. The importance of risk factors for gout should be emphasized and patients with gout and hyperuricemia should be educated so that they can achieve a good quality of life and longevity. In this review, the comorbidity, mortality, and economic burdens of gout will be presented. In addition, the importance of proper management and patient education will be stressed.

The Russian art market formed relatively later than its European and United States counterparts that are leading the global art market. The Russian art market is rich in content and potential possibilities; nevertheless, it is undervalued. In the 21st century, there has been a noticeable switch in perspective on art. Based on the above, this article aims to examine the origin and formation of the Russian art market and its developmental history, and to analyze the development potential of the Russian art market as a branch of the new cultural industry in the 21st century, in order to ultimately determine its future value. For this purpose, we systematically analyzed and described the history of the Russian art market. Moreover, we simultaneously analyzed the peculiarities of the Russian art market of each period and its differences from the European art market. Finally, we presented some suggestions for the advancement of the modern Russian art market and for increasing its value. Regarding the culture industry, the results of this study provide evidence and the basis for defining and analyzing artworks as objects of sale and distribution, not products of creative activities.
