Objective: This study reviewed experimental studies on the effects of Korean medical treatment for diabetes mellitus (DM). Method: We reviewed 24 studies about DM that had been published since 2013. We searched the Korean Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) database with the keyword '당뇨', '消渴', 'Diabetes'. Results: 1. The studies used various Korean medicine treatments; 15 used single medicinal herbs, 6 used herbal complexes, and 2 used acupuncture. 2. The measurement parameters used in the studies included blood glucose, body weight, histochemical change, lipid parameters, and food/water intake. Anti-diabetic effects were demonstrated in most of the studies. 3. The experimental animals used were rats or mice. There were 15 type 1 diabetes models, 7 type 2 diabetes models, and one normal model. Among them, 13 cases of chemical diabetes induced by Streptozotosin (STZ, type 1 diabetes inducer) were the most common. Conclusion: Further articles on Korean medical treatment of DM should be studied.

For the patients suffering from acute ischemic infarct from abrupt occlusion of vessels, prompt reperfusion is necessary to save the ischemic penumbra, eventually leading to a good prognosis. Regarding this, intravenous (IV) recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) thrombolysis as a reperfusion therapy is the only approved method. The IV rt-PA therapy gives us a clinical benefit of 30% or more likelihood of favorable outcome compared to the placebo. However, there is about 6% symptomatic intracranial hemorrhagic risk. Therefore, prudent decision-making by selecting of indicated patients is the role of neurologists. Besides intravenous rt-PA thrombolysis, application of intra-arterial therapy or bridging concept of intra-arterial combined with IV rt-PA is promising. They showed better recanalization rate than that of IV therapy according to the controlled studies. Although the clinical evidence is lacking, they have been performed occasionally in well-facilitated institutions. The results of ongoing trials to support the clinical benefit of these active therapies are expected. In this article, we reviewed the major clinical trials for thrombolytic treatment of acute ischemic stroke and various trials which are under investigation for the extension of the time window for thrombolysis.

This study was used the Mesocosm which presumes the movement of the nutrient substance (especially PO4-P) of the wetland it was executed. After set up the Mesocosm inside the wetland and adding the PO4-P, Observationed the movement of the PO4-P follows at hour. It analyzed the factor which is the possibility of causing an effect in PO4-P consistency of the wetland - Flora, Zooplankton, Phytoplankton, Absorbing rate of Algae, Settling rate, Release rate. Before adding The Consistency of the PO4-P inside reed texture was average 3.44 mg/gDW, after adding it wad 2.91 mg/gDW with 36% reduced. The Algae is more sensitive than the plant in absorption of the nutrient. The Phytoplankton increased suddenly after PO4-P adding. After adding the PO4-P, almost there was not change of the Algae.

Several studies investigating the prevention and treatment of external parasites in farmed olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus have found that the anticoccidial agent toltrazuril sulfone is an effective antiparasitic. Prior to undertaking a full-scale study, we developed analytical methods to detect the levels of toltrazuril and toltrazuril sulfone in farmed flounder samples using liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). This analysis showed that LC-MS/MS changed the mobile phase and collision energy of toltrazuril and toltrazuril sulfone. This was validated using established conditions. Sample pre-treatment for this process involved extraction with dichloromethane and purification by liquid–liquid extraction in formic acid, acetonitrile, and h-hexane, followed by determination of all compounds by LC-MS/MS. Separation was achieved within 10 min by gradient elution using a Capcell Pak C18 (3.0 μm, 100×2.0 mm) analytical column (Shiseido UG 120V) with a mixture of 0.1% (v/v) formic acid and acetonitrile. Multiple reaction monitoring was used for selective detection of toltrazuril and toltrazuril sulfone. This method yields satisfactory results for linearity, precision, and limits of quantification. Therefore, the method established in our study will serve as a basis for further research on parasite control by toltrazuril and toltrazuril sulfone.

Objectives: The aim of this review is to investigate clinical studies on Oriental medicine treatment for aphasia after cerebrovascular disease. Methods: Using the keywords ‘Aphasia', ‘Oriental medicine', ‘Stroke' ‘Cerebral infarction', ‘Cerebral hemorrhage', and ‘Clinic', we searched domestic databases, including “NDSL (National Discovery for Science Leaders)", “Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal", “OASIS (Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System)", and “RISS (Research Information Sharing Service)". Each keyword was not searched individually, but combined in various ways. To investigate recent trends, we limited our search to papers published after 2000. Papers that did not include a specific treatment method or did not match the subject “Aphasia after stroke" were excluded. Results: Using the searching method, 13 studies were found. Of these, 12 studies were in the form of case reports, while one was in the form of a non-randomized controlled trial. These studies showed positive results for the use of Oriental medicine in terms of the Korean version of the Western Aphasia Battery (K-WAB), the evaluation form on functional performance capability and accuracy of articulatory organs developed by Lee, aphasia screening test refered in ‘Assessment in Speech-Language Pathology' and adapted properly to Korean, the Communicative Ability in Daily Living Test (CADLT), the Korean Version-Boston Naming Test (K-BNT), and language assessment items included in CNS, and NIHSS. Conclusions: Of the 12 case reports, 11 studies showed positive results of the use of Oriental medicine for treatment of aphasia after cerebrovascular disease. However, more sophisticated and large-scale clinical research on aphasia should be conducted.
