Through the use of experimental simulation, this study explores how the fit between product characteristics, marketing functions, and information technology influences the success of Internet shopping malls. Product characteristics were defined based on the product`s durability, shopping pattern, and type of utility that it provides. Marketing functions were categorized as those necessary at each stage of the consumer purchase decision process. The results indicate that the information technologies embedded in the Internet shopping malls influence the perceived effectiveness of the marketing functions. The fit between marketing functions and product characteristics was also found to influence Internet shopping mall success. The results further show that marketing functions at the alternative evaluation stage of the purchase decision process are important factors for durable, shopping, functional goods, whereas those at the need recognition stage were important factors for goods with hedonic utility. Overall, the results imply that a different set of information technology elements is required in marketing different types of products in Internet shopping malls.

This essay attempts to examine the characteristic features of the four Tyrones’ tragedies, through the conflicting characters and the contrasting journeys in Long Day’s Journey into Night. They love and hate one another by recollecting the others’ doings in the past. They try to overcome the conflicts and begin to see the light. In the end, the play ends in a good atmosphere of forgiveness and reconciliation. O’Neill develops the dramatic strategy which transcends the spiritual conflict and emphasizes the vision of life through the four Tyrones. What O’Neill pursues ultimately is ‘journey into light.’ From this point of view, Long Day’s Journey into Night may be called ‘Long Night’s Journey into Day.’ (Daeshin University)

Construal level theory (CLT) have been researched in wide range of disciplines such as marketing, organizational study, psychology, or education. Current study asserts that CLT would explain the effect of different devices of PC and smartphone on interaction between human-computer interfaces and information systems use. In CLT, those who are far from an object in terms of physical, temporal, social or psychological distance, they construe their understanding as abstract (high level) and vice versa. We hypothesized different size of digital device will increase psychological distance and result in behaviors that correspond to present construal level. The analysis result shows that users of PC recognized that they are socially distant from the device and those of smartphone felt that they are socially close to the device. However, the device did not have significant effect on attention to essential information, advertisement preference, and immediacy. The implication to academia, practice and future research and limitations are also discussed.

My purpose in this essay is to examine the vision of life through the good characters in The Tempest. They play an important role in contributing to the theme. Their role is very important to The Tempest in that the vision of life is embodied in them. This play`s protagonist, Prospero, a rightful Duke of Milan, has been deprived of his throne by his jealous brother Antonio, aided by Alonso, the King of Naples. Prospero, a deposed duke, finally regains his lost dukedom from his brother through the events of the play. At the end of the play, Prospero pardons Antonio and his party as well as his own brother`s betrayal. The play ends in a good atmosphere of forgiveness and reconciliation. Even though humanity has been destroyed, Shakespeare emphasizes the vision of life through Prospero, the young generation and Gonzalo, an honest old councillor. Even if The Tempest was written during the Elizabethan age, its characters are still valid in modern times. (Daeshin University)

This essay attempts to define law and justice in The Merchant of Venice, focussing on the characters of Shylock and Portia. Shakespeare proposes ideas of law and justice that hold truth in the play. Law and justice play a key role in determining the outcome of the play. The result of this study is that the writer emphasizes social justice through the character of Portia. To achieve the aim, the study has mainly focused on the vicious act of Shylock and the wise judgment of Portia. Shylock is a Jewish usurer. Bassanio tries to get money from Shylock based on Antonio’s credit. Shylock lends the money to Antonio but he couldn’t pay back his loan within three months. Shylock demands a pound of Antonio’s flesh. Portia (dressed as Balthasar, the legal consultant) repeatedly asks Shylock to show mercy. However Shylock refuses to show any mercy and insists on the pound of flesh. Portia prohibits him from drawing any blood because blood is not mentioned in the contract. Shylock loses his right to the pound of flesh. Portia saves Antonio from the cruel Shylock, and social Justice prevails in the end.

The aim of this study is to define Shakespeare’s political justice in Julius Caesar focused on its political chaos. In this play, Shakespeare presents the various aspects of characters’ political actions and the problems of struggle between power and justice. Caesar becomes a Roman emperor. He is one of the most outstanding rulers. He holds an absolute power and authority over the whole of Rome and controls over the Roman Empire. He converts the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire. But Caesar is not a complete emperor. Brutus attempts to put the Republic over his personal relationship with Caesar. He is considered as a model of Republican virtues. But Brutus is manipulated by Cassius and makes the political mistakes that bring down the Roman Republic. By examining the political problems in Julius Caesar, we can compare the political philosophy of Caesar with that of Brutus and see Shakespeare’s political attitude. (Daeshin University)

일반적으로 사람들은 집단으로 의사결정을 내릴 때, 개인적으로 의사결정을 내릴 때 보다 어느 한쪽으로 치우치는 경우가 많은데, 이를 집단극화(group polarization) 현상이라고 한다. 집단극화 현상은 집단에 잠재적인 도움이 될 수도 있고, 반대로 해로운 효과를 가져 올 수도 있다. 긍정적인 측면으로는 자선 모금 등과 같은 상황에서 보다 극단적인 안에 대한 집단의 일치된 의견을 이끌어 내는 경우를 들 수 있다. 반면, 부정적인 경우로는 존슨 행정부의 월남전 확대 의사결정 같은 것을 들 수 있다. 기업 의사결정에서도 집단극화는 중요한 영향을 미치는데, 위험을 감수하는 혁신을 장려하고자 하는 조직은 집단극화를 촉진하는 방안을 고려할 수 있는 반면, 벤처 투자와 같은 의사결정에서 집단극화로 인해 실패를 겪는 경우도 있다. 이처럼 집단극화는 조직의 의사결정에 긍정적 또는 부정적 영향을 미칠 수 있기 때문에, 이에 대한 이해가 중요하며, 필요에 따라 장려하거나 제한할 필요가 있다. 지금까지 경영정보학 분야에서는 집단극화에 대한 연구가 많지 않았지만, 컴퓨터 매개 커뮤니케이션(computer-mediated communication(이하 CMC)) 환경이 증가하면서 CMC와 집단극화의 관계를 규명할 필요성이 높아지고 있다. Sia, Tan, and Wei(2002)는 CMC 환경에서 커뮤니케이션 큐(cue)와 익명성이 집단극화에 미치는 영향을 사회적 존재감(social presence)의 매개적 역할을 통해 설명함으로써 이 분야에 대한 우리의 지식을 넓혔다. 그러나 그들 실험 결과 중 일부는 사회적 존재감의 매개적 역할만으로는 충분히 설명되지 않는 부분이 있는데, 이는 그들의 실험 중 일부에서 익명성의 개념을 모호하게 정의했기 때문이 아닌가 하는 의문이 든다. 본 연구의 목적은 Sia 등(2002)의 실험에서 발생했을 수 있는 문제점을 지적하고, 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위한 대안을 제시하고, 이를 실험실 연구를 통해 검증하는 것이다.
