This study was conducted to analyze the contents of construction technology unit in the high school technology textbook.The major findings of the study were as follows:1. The two variabilities of knowledge and process of the universal concept of technology induced in the study were proposed. These variabilities were presented the criteria for analyzing the contents of technology textbooks.2. In analyzing the contents of knowledge, the nature and evolution of technology occupied higher proportions than linkages, and technological concepts and principles.3. In analyzing the contents of process, utilizing technological systems, and determining and controlling the behavior of technological systems were higher proportions than designing and developing technological systems, and assesing the impact and consequences of technological systems.4. Based upon the results of contents analyzing, the contents of technology textbook would be organized based the studies of the generality of technology.

This study was conducted to look into the procedures of and the status on the implementation of the new TechnologyㆍHome economics curriculum at the secondary school level(from 7th to 10th grades). It examined: the schools and the teachers for the actual implementation of the TechnologyㆍHome economics in classrooms.It was found that TechnologyㆍHome economics teachers generally reconstructed the contents to give the priority to the needs of the learners. The concept of learner-centeredness was reflected in teaching objectives, contents, instructional methods and evaluation. Most observed schools focused on reorganization of the curriculum contents based on the concept of 'student-centered' as well as 'diversified' curriculum. However, for most teachers, reorganization of the contents meant changing of the topics, reordering the sequences of the contents, and adding or deleting some units or topics.In order to meet the challenges of the new TechnologyㆍHome Economics curriculum, various measures are necessary. The undergirding philosophy of the current curriculum is to foster and accommodate individual learners' aspirations to the highest level. To achieve these goals, it is critical that the educational conditions need to be highly upgraded. Various teaching-learning materials & methods need to be provided for teachers, and high-quality teacher in-service programs need to be enforced. Advanced school planning and guiding and teachers should be emphasized by the administrators and supervisors. Continuous efforts to encourage and involve teachers in the process of curriculum implementation are in great demand. The greater the active support of the teachers, the greater the degree of implementation in schools.

This research was conducted to look into the reality of the implementation of teaching-learning method in TechnologyHome Economics classroom at secondary schools. The study presents that TechnologyHome Economics teachers usually use Lecture Method in classroom. Most of researched teachers use textbooks and teachers' guide books as main instruction materials. In addition, most of them seem to have difficulties in applying Practice & Experiment Method to their class. To improve the quality of class work, the improvement of the educational condition is critically required: First, various teaching-learning materials and methods need to be introduced for teachers. Second, high-quality in-service teachers are required, so programs for assessing and training in-service teachers should be enforced. Third, the authorities(administrators and supervisors) have to make an effort to encourage teachers' involvement in planning and guiding curriculum.
중학교 기술·가정 교과 '재료의 이해' 단원의 문제중심학습(PBL)에 의한 수업 전략

The Purpose of this study was to apply the Problem-Based Learning(PBL) in the Unit of 'Utilization of Materials' to the technology education of the middle school. The study was carried out through reviewing literature. The PBL approach is attractive to curriculum developers because it is based on interdisciplinary learning, and results in various outcomes. In addition, it is integrative and competency-based, and emphasizes metacognitive or higher-order thinking and real-life perspectives.The educational objectives of PBL are as follows : (1) to develop a systematic approach to solve real-life problems using higher-order thinking; (2) to acquire an extensively integrated knowledge base that can be recalled and flexibly applied to other situations; (3) to develop the attitudes and skills necessary for effective teamwork to do a task or to solve a problem; (4) to develop effective self-directed learning skills; (5) to develop the habit of self-reflection and self-appraisal; (6) to acquire the lifelong habit in approaching problem on one's initiative diligently and the motivation to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for an effective resolution. A model of PBL of this study propose to include a seven-step self-directed procedure in approaching a problem, a resource critique, reassessment of the problem, summary and integration of what has been learned, and evaluation. PBL can be used in the areas of technology education such as communication, manufacturing, transportation, and construction.
