핸드헬드 카메라 기법을 통한 3D 애니메이션의 공포 표현 연구 - <마네퀸의 꿈> 제작을 중심으로

본 논문은 3D 애니메이션에서 핸드헬드 기법을 활용해 공포를 표현하는 방법을 연구한 것으로, 본인 작품인 〈마네퀸의 꿈〉 제작을 통해 이를 탐구하였다. 공포를 효과적으로 표현하기 위해서는 강한 몰입감이 필요하지만, 애니메이션은 허구성이 드러나 몰입감을 형성하는 데 어려움이 있다. 그러나 3D 애니메이션은 보다 사실적인 표현이 가능하여 이를 극복할 수 있으며, 핸드헬드 기법을 함께 활용하면 현장감, 주관적 관점, 불안정한 움직임을 통해 생생한 공포를 전달할 수 있다. 연구 방법으로는 핸드헬드 기법의 역사와 특징, 3D 애니메이션 카메라의 특징을 조사하고, 실사영화와 3D 애니메이션에서의 핸드헬드 기법 사례를 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 본인 작품 제작에 핸드헬드 기법을 적용하여 구체적인 공포 표현 방법과 효과를 검토한 결과, 강한 공포감을 전달하는 작품을 제작할 수 있었다. 이 연구는 3D 애니메이션 제작자들에게 공포 표현 방법에 대한 유용한 정보를 제공할 것으로 기대된다. This paper studied how to express horror using the handheld camera technique in 3D animation, and explored this through the production of our work, 〈Mannequin’s Dream〉. A strong sense of immersion is required to express horror effectively, but animation has difficulty forming a sense of immersion due to its fictional images. However, 3D animation can overcome this with its more realistic images, if the handheld camera technique is used together, vivid horror can be conveyed through a sense of realism, a subjective perspective, and unstable movements. First, we researched the history and characteristics of the handheld camera technique. After that, the characteristics of the 3D animation camera were investigated, and examples of the handheld camera technique in live-action films and 3D animation were analyzed. Based on this, we applied specific methods and effects of the handheld camera technique to the production of 〈Mannequin’s Dream〉, as a result, we made a work that conveyed a strong sense of horror. This study is expected to provide useful information on how to express horror to 3D animation producers.

〈Jibaro〉, one of the episodes of season 3 of Netflix's anthology animated series 〈Love, Death + Robot〉 and directed by Alberto Mielgo, made headlines at the time of its release for its great immersion and realism. However, it is difficult to say that 〈Jibaro〉 is a work aimed at realizing a photo-realistic image. This is because the director's unique art style is revealed throughout the artwork through the free expressive power of the animation medium. This study was conducted under the judgment that 〈Jibaro〉 is a work that achieves a unique achievement that shows surprising realism while also containing surreal and fantastic images at the same time, and that it is necessary to analyze the components constituting it. In addition, since criticism or research on 〈Jibaro〉 has rarely been conducted in Korea, this paper is expected to be more valuable. In this study, the components and directing methods of 〈Jibaro〉 were analyzed, focusing on the re-mediation theory of Bolter and Grusin. First, after closely examining the re-mediation theory of Bolter and Grusin, the form and direction of re-mediation described in the re-mediation theory were described. After that, the components of 〈Jibaro〉 were analyzed based on the re-mediation theory, and the way 〈Jibaro〉 combined realism and fantasy were analyzed. It is hoped that this study will be of great help to new media creators to effectively realize vivid and true experiences.

Low Phase Noise Series-coupled VCO using Current-reuse and Armstrong Topologies

This paper proposes a new series-coupled voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The proposed VCO consists of four current-reuse Armstrong VCOs (CRA-VCOs) coupled by four transformers. The series-coupling, current-reuse, and Armstrong topologies improve the phase noise performance by increasing the negative-Gm of the VCO core with half the current consumption of a conventional differential VCO. The proposed VCO consumes 6.54 mW at 9.78 GHz from a 1-V supply voltage. The measured phase noise is −115.1 dBc/Hz at an offset frequency of 1 MHz, and the FoM is −186.5 dBc/Hz. The frequency tuning range is from 9.38–10.52 GHz. The core area is 0.49 mm2 in a 0.13-μm CMOS process.

서울시 모델 구역의 건축물을 대상으로 가상 시나리오 지진에 의한 피해를 추정하였다. 다양한 주거 및 구조 특성을 대표할 수 있고 지반 증폭 효과를 고려할 수 있는 지역을 모델 구역으로 선정하였다. 모델 구역 내 건축물은 구조 형식에 따라 11 종류로 분류하였으며 HAZUS에서 제시한 값을 사용하여 역량 곡선(capacity curve)과 취약도 곡선(fragility curve)을 생성하였다. 가상 시나리오 지진의 지반 운동은 인공 지진 운동 생성 방법을 사용하여 생성하였으며 모델 구역을 표토층 두께에 따라 3개의 구역으로 나누고 지반응답해석을 수행하였다. 건축물의 피해 확률은 역량 스펙트럼 방법과 취약도 곡선을 사용하여 계산하였다. 최종적으로 GIS 데이터베이스를 활용하여 모델 구역 내 건축물의 전반적 피해 정도를 추정하였다. The seismic damage assessment due io the postulated earthquake was attempted for the buildings in the model district of Seoul City. The model district was selected to represent the typical structural and residential characteristics of Seoul City. The buildings in the model district were classified into 11 structural types. For each structural type, the capacity and fragility curves were constructed with parameters presented in HAZUS. The ground motions due to the postulated earthquakes were artificially generated and ground response analyses were done for three kinds of soil profiles classified with respect to the depth of surface soil layer. The probability of damage state of each structural type was calculated using capacity spectrum method and fragility curve. Finally, the calculated results were translated into GIS database and mapped to evaluate the seismic damage in the model district.
