In this paper, a generalized auto-regressive(AR) model is proposed for linear prediction based on adaptive spatio-temporal support region(ASTSR). The conventional AR model suffers from the drawback that the prediction error increases in the edge region because the rectangular support region of the edge does not satisfy the stationary assumption. Thus, the proposed approach puts an emphasis on the formulation of a spatio-temporally adaptive support region for the AR model, called ASTSR. The ASTSR consists of two parts: the adaptive spatial support region(ASSR) connected with edges and the adaptive temporal support region(ATSR) related to temporal discontinuities. The AR model based on ASTSR not only produces more accurate model parameters but also reduces the computational complexity in the motion picture restoration.

RADAR(Radio Detection and Ranging) is an important system for surveillance and reconnaissance by detecting a reflected signal which obtains the range from the radar to the target, and the velocity of the target. The magnitude of the reflected signal varies due to the radar cross section of the target, characteristic of the transmission and reception antenna, distance between the radar and the target, and power and wavelength of the transmitted signal. Thus, the RCS is the important characteristic of the target to determine if the target can be observed by the RADAR system. It is based on the material and shape of the target. We have measured the reflection signal of a simple square-shaped (20 × 20 cm) target made of a new material, a gallium-based liquid metal alloy and compared that of well-known metals including copper, aluminum. The magnitude of reflected signal of the aluminum target was the largest and it was 2.4 times larger than that of the liquid metal target. We also investigated the effect of the shape by measuring reflectance of the F-22 3D model(~1/95 ratio) target covered with/without copper, aluminium, and liquid metal. The largest magnitude of the reflected signal measured from side-view with the copper-covered F-22 model was 2.6 times greater than that of liquid metal. The reflectance study of the liquid metal would be helpful for liquid metal-based frequency selective surface or metamaterials.

This paper describes a monolithic Darlington-cascode amplifier (DCA) operating at X-band, realized with a 0.35-micron SiGe bipolar process, which provides 45 GHz fT. A conventional cascode amplifier was also designed on the same process and tested to establish a reference. Compared to the reference cascode amplifier, the proposed monolithic amplifier circuit exhibits an improved gain of 2.5 ㏈ and improved output power 1-㏈ compression point of 5.2 ㏈ with 72% wider bandwidth. Measurement results show 19.5 ㏈ gain, 11.2 ㏈m 1-㏈ compression power, and 3.1 ㎓ bandwidth. These results demonstrate that the Darlington-cascode cell is an advantageous substitute to the conventional cascode amplifier.
