Purpose: To investigate the relationship among optical coherence tomography (OCT), ultrasound pachymetry, and Orbscan in central corneal thickness measurement and to evaluate the reproducibility of flap thickness using an IntraLase femtosecond laser. Methods: Central corneal thickness was measured by OCT, ultrasound pachymetry, and Orbscan in 59 eyes of 30 patients before LASIK. After IntraLASIK, the corneal flap thickness measured using OCT was compared with the intended corneal flap thickness. Results: Central corneal thickness measured by OCT was thinner than that measured by other instruments preoperatively, but there was no significant difference among these methods (p>0.01), and corneal thickness values obtained by ultrasound pachymetry and Orbscan correlated well with those obtained by OCT (r ranged from 0.804 to 0.889, p<0.01). After IntraLASIK, there was no significant difference between the mean measured flap thickness and the intended flap thickness (p>0.01). Conclusions: OCT is a relatively accurate instrument for measuring corneal thickness and can easily measure the corneal flap thickness after LASIK. Compared with the results of a previous study, the mean measured flap thickness in this study was more reproducible with the IntraLase femtosecond laser.
미세각막절개 백내장 수술과 고전적 백내장 수술에서의 각막내피세포의 손상정도 비교

Purpose: To evaluate the damage to corneal endothelial cells following coaxial phacoemulsification and bimanual microincision cataract surgery (MICS). Methods: We measured and compared the changes in the corneal endothelial mean cell density, cell size variation coefficient, hexagonality, and central corneal thickness in senile cataract patients who had received either coaxial phacoemulsification (Group 1, n=20), MICS using ultrasound (Group 2, n=20), and MICS using laser (Group 3, n=20). The endothelial cell parameters and corneal thickness were evaluated preoperatively and at 1 week, 1 month, and 2 months postoperatively. Results: There was no significant difference among the three groups in terms of the endothelial cell parameters and corneal thickness during two months (p>0.05). Conclusions: MICS is a safe technique that does not appear to be associated with more damage to the corneal endothelium than coaxial phacoemulsification. A longer follow-up study is necessary to investigate its potential benefits for replacing conventional surgery.

The patient of this case is a 67-year old female who had worn complete denture and removable partial denture respectively in maxilla and mandible. She had wanted the refabrication of the maxillary and mandibular denture. Result of diagnosis showed possible approach of two, complete dentures in both jaw or complete denture in maxilla and removable partial denture using implants in mandible. The latter one for treatment was determined and two impalnts were placed in the opposite ares that two natural teeth had been remained in mandible. Two surveyed crowns were attached on implants and had an occlusal rest. Conventional removable partial denture that had an occlusal rest and retentive clasp arms on casting crown attached to implant, was fabricated. About 20 months after delivery revealed no severe marginal bone loss around implants and no problem with removable partial denture. This case has shown the successful result and good satisfaction for patient, and suggested that implant might be used as an abutment for removable partial denture like as natural teeth.

In the PV power system, output of the PV array must contain inherent ripples due to the single-phase inverter. So the function of maximum power point tracking to increase the output efficiency of PV system is degraded. Therefore, to overcome this problem, this paper presents a control strategy for the reducing ripples of the PV array output in grid-connected photovoltaic power system. The proposed control system consists of two loops the maximum power point tracking loop using the perturbation and observation method is used to calculate the reference solar array terminal voltage(Vref) for reducing ripples of the PV array output and the PI control loop is used to regulate the solar array output voltage according to the Vref. The performance of proposing control strategy is analyzed by means of the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation. As a result, we may obtain the high performance of the proposed control strategy.
