Antioxidants are compounds that protect cells against the damaging effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Some ROS, such as superoxide and hydrogen peroxide, are normally produced in cells as by-products of biochemical reactions or as signaling molecules. When ROS-generating reactions are activated excessively, pathological quantities of ROS are released to create an imbalance between antioxidants and ROS, called as oxidative stress. Oxidative stress, which may result in cellular damage, has been linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and other degenerative conditions. In humans the first line of antioxidant defence are the antioxidant enzymes, especially SOD, glutathione peroxidase (GPX), and to a lesser extent catalase, as well as the tripeptide glutathione(GSH). These enzymes will help destroy ROS(reactive oxygen species) such as hydroxyl radical, $H_2O_2$ and lipid peroxides, while GSH protects against oxidized protein. Many herbal medicines possess antioxidant properties. Herbal antioxidants may protect against these diseases by contributing to the total antioxidant defense system of the human body. Here, many herbal medicines including Ginseng, Licorice, Ligusticum Chuanxiong, Ginkgo biloba and many others was reviewed in terms of anti-oxidant efficiency related to their components.

능이버섯의 16S ribosomal DNA일부분, IT1, 5.85 ribosomal DNA, ITS2의 전부분, 28S ribosomal DNA 일부분이 포함된 ITS영역의 염기서열을 분석하였다. 이 부분은 716개의 염기쌍으로 구성되었다. 이를 Sarcadon속에 속하는 종들과 비교분석한 결과 같은 능이버섯의 ITS에 관한 다른 분석결과 염기치환 및 결실을 근거로 하였을 경우 $1.8\%$의 차이를 나타내었다. 또한 S. imbricatus와는 $1.8\%$, S. sequamous와는 $10\%$차이를 나타내었다. 이는 능이버섯이 숙주, 서식지 환경 등의 특수성 때문에 자연상태에서 유전자교류가 일어나지 않기 때문인 것으로 생각된다. The sequence of ITS (partial 16S ribosomal DNA, complete ITS1, 5.8S ribosomal DNA and ITS2, and partial 28S ribosomal DNA) was analysed by PCR and autosequencing in Sarcodon aspratus. The ITS lenght of S. aspratus was 716 base pair. As this sequence compared with other reports on S. aspratus (ace No AF335110), the sequence variation based on nucleotide deletion and substitution was $1.8\%$. This nucleotide variation rate in same species was very higher than in other species. Also, the sequence varitation rates between this S. aspratus and S. imbricatus, and S. squamus were $8\%\;and\;10\%$, respectively. This results suggested that the high sequence variation of S. aspratus might be caused specific host and inhabitat environment which limited gene flow.
Research History and Recent Trends in the Development of Sheet Metal-Forming Processes

Sheet metal-forming processes such as stamping, deep drawing, bending, shearing, hydroforming, hydromechanical deep drawing, rubber forming, and incremental forming have been widely used in the automotive, aircraft, and ship-building industries. With the expansion of the automotive industry, research on these processes has been remarkably developed in Korea since the 1980s. Here, we review the history of this research as well as recent trends in sheet metal-forming processes. This overview focuses specifically on the results of research in Korea and on the works of Professor D.Y. Yang, in honor of his retirement.

This research was carried out to evaluate the value of tofu containing mushroom as a immunomodulator. Tofu was made using CaSO4·2H2O or Lactobacillus extract as a coagulant after adding powder of fruit bodies or mycelia of Letino edodes and Lepista nuda to soybean milk. Proximate compositions of tofu and tofu containing mushroom were analyzed. Levels of interferon-γ (IFN-γ), interleukin-4 (IL-4) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in culture media of lymphocytes collected from mouse spleens after being injected with mushroom, regular tofu, or tofu made with mushroom were measured by sandwich ELISA. In addition, concentrations of IgG1, IgG2a and IgE in plasma or lymphocyte culture media were analyzed. Crude protein, crude lipid and crude ash were decreased in tofu containing mushroom but phosphorus was increased significantly. IFN-γ concentration was significantly decreased in mice injected with fruit body or tofu alone. IL-4 level was decreased significantly in mice injected with tofu containing fruit body of L. edodes. However, TNF-α was increased in mice injected with tofu containing fruit body of L. edodes. Plasma levels of IgG1were increased in almost all groups, while there was no significant change in IgG2a levels among treated mice groups. Concentrations of IgG1 andIgG2a were increased significantly in lymphocyte culture media of mice injected with tofu containing mushroom. Plasma levels of IgE level was significantly increased in mice injected with tofu or fruit body of L. edodes, but not in mice treated with tofu containing mushroom. These results showed that tofu with mushroom affected immune activities, and it seems valuable to consider developing the mixture of tofu and L. edodes as an immunomodulator.

In this study, for the evaluation of the static and fatigue joining strength of the joint, the geometry of the cross-tension specimen was adopted. The specimens were produced with optimal joining force and fatigue life of the clinch joint specimens was evaluated. The material selected for use in this study was cold rolled mild steel (SPCC) with a thickness of 0.8 mm. The maximum tensile load was 708 N for the specimen with single point. The fatigue endurance limit (=42.6 N) per point approached to 6% of the maximum tensile strength at a load ratio of 0.1, suggesting that the joints are vulnerable to cross-tension loading during fatigue. Compared to equivalent stress and maximum principal stress, the SWT fatigue parameter and equivalent strain can properly predict the current experimental fatigue life.
