This study was conducted to investigate the differences of measurement methods on carcass traits with 160 hogs. The carcass traits were measured by Destron Pork Grader-100 (PG), Danish Fat-0-Meat`er (FOM) and manual method and the summarized results are as follows; 1. Ranges of retail cuts and trimmed fat percentage were 62.1 to 78.3% and 7.2 to 22.7%. 2. On the 3-4th lumbar vertebrae and last rib, backfat thickness was significantly different by each method (p$lt;0.01). 3. On the 11-12th ribs, backfat thickness was not significantly different between PG and FOM but different between manual method and FOM (p$lt;0.01). 4. The simple correlations between retail cuts and backfat thickness, carcass weight, carcass length and muscle depth were -0.43 to -0.68, -0.21 to -0.23, -0.19 and 0.08 to 0.18, respectively. 5. The measurement of grading machines showed higher correlations with retail cuts percent than manual method and backfat thickness of FOM showed higher than that of PG at 3-4th lumbar vertebrae but not different between FOM and PG at other sites. 6. Conclusively, it is desired that the different estimating equations are used for more accuracy estimate of meat productivity.

This study was conducted to determine the estimating equations for retail cuts percentage of pork carcass by grading machines and manual measurement with 160 hogs. Carcass grading machines used were Destron Pork grader-100(PG) and Danish Fat-O-Meat`er(FOM), and the summarized results are as follows; l. The carcass weight and carcass length showed negative correlation(r=-0.23, -0.19, respectively) with retail cuts percentage. 2. Among average of two site measurements, the average of backfat thickness at 11-12th ribs and last ribs showed the highest correlation with retail cuts percentage. 3. Average of three site measurements showed lower correlation with retail cuts percentage than average of two site measurements. 4. Conclusively, the estimating equations for retail cuts percentage by measurement methods were Y=77.60-0.003(Hot carcass weight) -4.46(Backfat thickness) for Handling, Y=73.97+0.011(Hot carcass weight) -0.60(Backfat thickness) +0.09(Muscle depth) for PG and Y=74.58+0.022(Hot carcass weight)-0.69(Backfat thickness) +0.07(Muscle depth) for FOM, respectively.

This experiment was carried out to obtain the basic data for establishing the beef carcass grade in Korea. Characteristics of beef carcass were examined by breed and sex from 1984 to 1986. The results are as follows: 1. Dressing percentage was highest in pure beef breeds (60.7%) and lowest in Holstein (57,3%). 2. K × H crossbred was highest in percentages of dressed meat and retailed cuts and Holstein in bone. Korean native cattle and pure beef breeds were higher than Holstein in trimmed fat. 3. Percentages of dressing, dressed meat and retailed cuts were lower in female than male, while bone and trimmed fat were higher in female. It appears that female cattle has lower beef productivity than male.

To evaluate the effect of feeding level on daily gain, feed efficiency and carcass composition, high (H: DCP and TDN was supplied for 1.1㎏ daily gain × 1.1) and low (L: DCP and TDN was supplied for 0.6㎏ daily gain × 1.1) level nutrient were fed to each 12 heads of Korean native bulls (KNB) for the 1st period (body weight from about 120㎏ to 300㎏), and thereafter during 2nd period 12 heads were devided into two groups and fed with H and L-feeding level until animals weighted about 500㎏. 1. Daily gain was significantly increased (P$lt;0.05) and the feeding period was significantly decreased when fed with H level. Shifting feeding level (H→L or L→H) did not affect the daily gain during whole period although there was a trend that H level during 1st period was more efficient than L level. 2. Dry matter intake was higher with H level than with L level. 3. DCP efficiency was better when fed with L level. The efficiency of L→H level was lower than that of H→L level during whole period but was better than that of H→H level during the early phase of 2nd period. 4. TDN efficiency was not influenced by the feeding level. However, TDN efficiency of H group was slightly better than that of L group during the 1st period. 5. Dressing percentage was significantly increased when fed with H level during the 2nd period. Fat content was significantly increased when fed with H→H level, while there was no significant differences among H→L, L→H, L→L feeding levels. There was no significant differences in retailed cuts between the feeding levels. 6. Carcass price was higher and feed cost was lower when fed with L level during the 2nd period. The monthly income per head was higher when fed with H level during the 1st period, although there was no big differences between H→H and L→H feeding level.

The construction accidents in temporary structures have ceaselessly happened and these mostly lead to serious disasters associated with public criticism. Recently, the accidents under construction due to incomplete or faulty design has repeatedly occurred such as the overturned girder accident in Jangnam Bridge, the submerged incident in Noryangjin and the slab collapse in Banghwa Bridge. In order to prevent such accidents due to the faulty design in temporary structures, it’s important to set up the solid construction management system which allows the reasonable design change if necessary. In this regard, this study provides the basic data for the reasonable design change in temporary structures by conducting a question investigation to the construction, design, and supervising companies. From the survey results, the kind and range of the temporary structures which should considers the design change were suggested by the deduced reasonable processes.

Article 29(3) of Occupational Safety And Health Act, which states a contractor can request a design change to an employer of businesses under the risk condition of construction of temporary structure, was established. Accordingly, in this study, recent fatal accidents caused by temporary structures were analyzed, and the level of inclusion of temporary structures in the design document were examined, and high risk temporary structures were classified. In addition, the requirements of design change of temporary structures were presented, and the qualifications of expert to certify the design change were proposed

Swine carcass characteristics: Dressinge, lean meat and backfat thickness: and marketing statement of swine: Distribution of carcass weight, backfat thickness and price per ㎏ of carcass were studied to establish the swine carcass grading criteria in Korea. Five swine carcass grading criteria (see Tab: 2) was established by using of the principle which dressing percentage and backfat thickness was increased by increasing of carcass weight, but lean meat ratio was decreased. When this criteria was used at wholesale markets, five grades - A,B,C,D and E - were appeared by 2.8, 24.0, 37.7, 27.0 and 8.5 percent, respectively. If the carcass graded by the carcass criteria of weight and backfat thickness can be examined by seeming judging, carcass quality will be classfied more exactly.

This experiment was carried out to estimate the effects of breed, sex, slaughter weight and slaughter season on cut-meats of swine. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The breed had significant effects on picnic (p$lt;0.001), bacon (p$lt;0.00l) and tenderloin (p$lt;0.01). 2. The effects of sex were found on loin (p$lt;0.001), bacon (p$lt;0.001), tenderloin (p$lt;0.01) and ham (p$lt;0.01). 3. Significantly, the slaughter weight had effects on all cut-meats (p$lt;0.001). 4. All cut-meats except loin (p$lt;0.01) and tenderloin (p$lt;0.01) were not influenced by slaughter season.
