Schwannoma is a type of benign neurogenic tumor which may derive from the nerve sheath. They can occur throughout anybody but rarely manifest in the nasal cavity, representing less than 4% of all head and neck schwannomas. A 68-year-old woman presented to our clinic with a complaint of a mass occupying the space of the maxillary sinus beyond the pterygopalatine fossa. This mass was discovered during a brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test conducted at another hospital during a routine health checkup. Paranasal sinus computed tomography (CT ) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a heterogenous enhancing mass lesion measuring approximately 4.8×2.9×3.6 cm in size. We performed a mass excision via an endoscopic transnasal approach, and she was pathologically diagnosed with a cellular schwannoma. We present a didactic case report to highlight the minimal invasive technique and the absence of postoperative complications and recurrence, along with a relevant literature review.

Cryptococcus is a pathogenic fungus that can cause various infections mainly in an immuno-compromised host. Cryptococcal yeasts are easily inhaled, so pulmonary infection is the mostcommonly encountered, but in immunocompetent status, primary cryptococcosis occurs rarelyin the pharyngo-epiglottic fold. A 75-year-old male came to our clinic with the complaint offoreign body sensation in the throat that lasted for three months. Rigid laryngoscopy showed acircular mass in the pharyngo-epiglottic fold and we performed laryngeal microsurgery withCO2 laser to remove it. The patient was pathologically diagnosed as cryptococcosis. We reportthis case of rare, atypical cryptococcosis in the pharyngo-epiglottic fold along with a related literature review.

Relapsing polychondritis is a rare multisystemic disease which affects cartilaginous tissues of auricles, nose, larynx, trachea and joints as well as proteoglycan-rich structures. The disease is characterized by repetitive inflammatory and destructive episodes. Chondritis most frequently involves external ear, but the spectrum of clinical presentations may vary from intermittent episodes of painful chondritis and ocular inflammation, to organ or even life-threatening manifestations like cardiovascular complications and airway collapse. Its pathogenesis in not determined completely. In the treatment, main medication is a corticosteroid and immunosuppressive drugs represent a second-choice treatment. Authors have recently experienced a case of relapsing polychondritis in a 42 year old man who had ear fullness as an initial manifestation. We report this case with a review of the literature.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) by severe acute syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) occurs the unprecedented pandemic during recent two years and the WHO declared a global pandemic of COVID-19 in March 2020. The most common sampling sites in COVID-19 test are the oropharynx and nasopharynx. We recently encountered a total laryngectomee who had a positivity COVID-19 diagnostic test from the tracheostoma, on the other hand, false negativity from the nasal cavity. The meaning of this case is that accurate screening test could be achieved by performing a test through the tracheostoma as well as nasal cavity or oropharynx. We also would like to discuss the accurate testing methods of patients whose airflow has distorted due to surgery, the management method of these patients, and the need of further research in the COVID-19 pandemic period with relevant literature reviews.

Neoplasm from the accessory parotid glands (APG) rarely occurs, and its malignancy rate ishigher than other salivary glands. The B-cell lymphoma from APG is rare, with less than 2%of all malignancy in APG. The mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, asubtype of B-cell lymphoma, tends to be a localized disease with an indolent clinical course. It is very rare for MALT lymphoma to develop bilaterally in the APG and the parotid glandswithout an autoimmune disease. A 43-year-old male presented with superficial masses in thebilateral infra-zygomatic regions, and was pathologically confirmed as MALT lymphoma byexcisional biopsy. We report this very rare and interesting case with a brief literature review.
