The purpose of this study is to investigate CSOs(combined sewer overflows) control in the combined sewer with/without separation wall. There is the high correlation between sewage velocity and suspended solid(SS) loading in the sewer without it. The SS/BOD ratio was about 3 times in the area with it, while it was about 5 times in the area without it. Therefore, the accumulated deposit within the sewer has influenced high SS loading in the sewer without it. This study showed that the separation wall installed acquired an acceptable efficiency in controlling the accumulated deposit in the combined sewer. According to this study, the BOD control effect was about 38 % in the sewer with the separation wall, whereas it showed about 24 % in the sewer without it. In this case, it was anticipated that the high pollutant control effect would be expected if the separation wall was installed in the combined sewer.
한국에서의 복합악취 숙련도시험 방법의 정립 과정에 관한 연구

This study is a summary of the complex odor proficiency testing method using the air dilution sensory method conducted for the last 7 years. Results of the homogeneity and stability test were obtained from the measurement of the standard sample for identifying the range of measurable concentration so that the complex odor proficiency testing method was established through processing the manufactured standard sample and distribution method. Standard samples were prepared using a large Teflon bag after being homogeneously mixed inside a Teflon bag. Also, a distributing container was selected with a polyester aluminum bag in order to avoid samples of the best condition from being contaminated during transport as well as being exposed to invasive odor from a sampling bag. Test results revealed that the mixture of toluene and m-Xylene was most appropriate for this proficiency testing method to the homogeneity and stability of the testing method. In addition, DMS and DMDS were the optimized samples at the outlet area. As a result, the standard method was established to address the analysis quality management to the mixed odor inspection agencies in Korea.

We performed water analysis at the water quality measuring points of Gap Stream and Youdenug Stream to examine the water quality impact by the Youdeung Stream inflow to Gap Stream Lake Park due to moving of movable weir. As analytical results, the SS concentration was found to be high during a rainy season, but during a dry season COD and TP concentrations were found to be high. Especially, the TP was higher after the moving of movable weir. From the measuring results of sediments of Gap Stream Lake Park, the concentration of organic matter due to the decrease of flow rate of water was higher than a non-freshwater period, and the downstream concentration of organic matter was found to be higher than the upstream of Lake Park during a fresh water period. The analytical results of water quality for the inflow of Yudeung Stream for maintaining utility water of Daejeon Stream showed no concentration difference according to the points in organic matters and nutrient salts, but the COD and SS concentrations were found to be partially high in the Okgye Bridge outfall. In case of heavy metals they were not mostly detected, so their effects were not high.

We used a conventional activated sludge process to treat a paper wastewater, and then the effluent was treated with an ozone oxidation process as advanced process to remove non-degradable materials. It was found that the removal efficiency rates of the organic matter has been rapidly increased initially, and then it was almost constant after this period. The concentration of ozone should be recommended to maintain approximately 8.3 mg/L during this operation to keep the CODmn value below 100 mg/L and ozone contact time longer than 60 min.
