        Circuit Dynamics in a School Facility based on Home-base Area

        The latest educational curriculum in Korea started in 1997, and the 'Departmentalized Classroom System', which is a distinguishing modern concept compared with conventional pedagogy, has already been used in several high schools since 2009 and will be expanded to all middle school and high schools by 2014. However, most Korean schools are not yet physically ready to implement the new system. Moreover, despite many trials during the last three years, the characteristic and architectural function of a place called 'Home-base' is still vague and has caused many controversial arguments. In fact, a large number of home-base designs failed to accomplish their original task and there are counter evidences that shows reality was quite different over architect's personal and subjective radical plan. Therefore, this study seeks to introduce and objective scientific method based on an mathematical model of an optimized algorithm for planning a home-base area in a school design. The algorithm developed in this study is designed to determine the most efficient location for a home-base area to minimize the distance students typically need to walk.

        비정형 건축형태의 장소성과 인지성

        This paper reveals that regional and recognizable factors are still important even in recent digital free form architecture. However, most of today's digital free form buildings are exhausted by meaningless machine produced shapes that totally disconnects with social and cultural issues. Moreover, when it comes to urban tissue and morphological expression, digital free form buildings seems to follow the same mistake that we saw in the Modern architecture. Nevertheless, no previous work specifically examined the contrasting and/or similar factors between free form concepts and its early precedents to avoid failures that were done in the Modern architecture. In case of Peter Eisenman, process of research in to formal structures and shapes which did not existed prior to his design was based on endless mechanical process. Consequently, neither architect nor client had any decision making authority and the same tendency can be witnessed in today's free form architecture. Therefore, this study designed and experiment that use two free form buildings. One is based on regional image and the other came from a conceptual idea by the same architect. As a result, this study stressed up the important value of regional and recognizable form even in today's digital architecture.

        초등학교 층별 구성과 비상시 대피효율성의 관계

        This study compared evacuation effectiveness between the conventional school floor plan and a suggested hypothetical floor plan that was generated by a mathematical model that is commonly applied in the field of industrial engineering. Recent school buildings became much more complicated in floor planning due to the new educational system and modern curriculum than the old days. Nevertheless, architect's approach to floor composition in terms of fire emergency evacuation planning, still has no relation to optimized effective but relies more on a conventional school planning. Therefore, since elementary school buildings are much more likely to be exposed to any fire related events than middle school or high-school, emergency exit effectiveness based on spatial composition has to be seriously evaluated with a scientific method. The algorithm, which acquires the number of persons in each spatial type (node) per floor and the minimum physical distance between spatial types (arc), can propose the most optimized spatial compositing per floor regarding emergency evacuation event. Consequently, this study evaluated elementary school's fire exit effectiveness with the scientific tool and suggested the most reliable spatial composition per floor regarding possibile emergency evacuation event.

        건축유형학 이론의 상대성과 복합성

        This paper reveals that several core factors regarding type theory are exhausted by European arguments that are mainly focused on culture based morphological views that do not deliver social and cultural aspects. Moreover, existing theory based on the concept of architectural type did not demonstrated the architect's design behavior. On the other hand, experimental approach to the concept of architectural type had no interest in the actual problem solving tasks. Nevertheless, no previous work specifically examined the contrasting factors between the concept of architectural typology and its problem-solving role in the actual design process. Despite its long history as a theory, however, the core essence of the concept differed because the interest in architectural typology transformed by society, place and time and thereby, its position as an architectural theory remained unstable. Therefore, this research designed a questionnaire to explore contemporary practicing architect's and designer's understanding on building typology and its actual influence on the design process to elevate the pragmatical charismatics as a design method.

        학교강당의 평면적 특징에 따른 대피효율에 관한 연구

Recent school buildings became much more complicated in floor planning due to new social needs and modern curriculum than the old days. Nevertheless, architect's approach to floor composition in terms of fire emergency evacuation planning, still has no relation to optimized effective but relies more on an conventional school planning. Therefore, since school buildings are much more likely to be exposed to any fire related events than any other building types, emergency exit effectiveness based on spatial composition has to be seriously evaluated with a scientific method. The algorithm, which acquires the number of persons in each spatial type(node) per floor and the minimum physical distance between spatial types(arc), can propose the most optimized spatial layout per floor regarding emergency evacuation event. Consequently, this study evaluated school's fire exit effectiveness focusing on auditorium area with the scientific tool and suggested the most reliable spatial layout regarding possibile emergency evacuation event.

        CM전문가의 직업윤리에 관한 연구

        The growth of CM(construction management) market poses business opportunities and challenges to improve vocational ethics of CM professionals and firms. Ensuring the vocational ethics of CM professionals is an important issue not only for individual CM professional but also CM firms and CM industry in general. The objective of the study is to investigate relationships between the importance and performance of CM professionals' vocational ethics and discuss key characteristics and implications. The IPA(Importance-Performance Analysis) technique is used as a research tool. Findings show that quality CM service and competencies are the core of CM professionals' vocational ethics. But there exists a gap between importance and performance of CM professionals' vocational ethics. CM시장의 성장은 CM전문가의 활동 영역을 확대시키는 긍정적인 기회와 함께 CM전문가 직업윤리의 확보 제고라는 도전도 함께 던지고 있다. CM전문가 직업윤리의 확보 제고는 개인적인 차원에 국한되는 것이 아니라 CM기업적 산업적 차원에서도 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 본 논문의 목적은 CM전문가에게 요구되는 직업윤리의 중요도와 현재 수준을 비교 분석하여 주요 특징과 시사점을 도출하는 데 있으며, 이를 위해 중요도-실행도 분석(Importance-Performance Analysis)기법을 분석 도구로 활용하였다. 연구 결과, 발주자에게 성실하고 질 높은 CM서비스를 제공하고 이를 제공할 수 있는 CM역량을 보유하는 것이 CM전문가에게 요구되는 가장 중요한 직업윤리로 나타났다. 그러나 현 수준은 이에 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났으며 기업규모 및 직급에 따라 CM전문가의 직업윤리를 바라보는 시각에 유사점과 차이점이 있다는 것을 발견할 수 있었다.

        ㄷ자형 초등학교의 비상구를 중심으로 한 정량적 배치방법

        This study examined emergency exit location with the most representing school floor type with a mathematical model that applied optimized algorithm in the field of engineering. Recent school buildings became much more diverse in floor planning than the old days. Nevertheless, architect's approach to building prevention against fire related emergency planning still relies on an personal experience and knowledge. Therefore, since school buildings are much more likely to be exposed to any fire related events, emergency exit planning has to be seriously evaluated with a scientific method. The algorithm, which acquires the number of persons in each spatial type(node) and the minimum physical distance between spatial types(arc), can propose the most optimized emergency exit locations. Consequently, this study compared an architect's fire exit planning with the scientific outcome of this study and suggested the most reliable emergency exit locations.
