This research is intended to explore the adaptation process for immigrant women and their Korean spouses through a qualitative method. It is aimed at understanding how immigrant women and their Korean spouses have adjusted to their lives in Korea over the last 10 years and how they have dealt with difficulties in the adaptation process. The participants were 15 intermarried couples consisting of a Southeast Asian wife and a Korean husband. They got married through matchmakers and have children between the ages of 8 and 13. The study carried out in-depth interviews. To analyze the interview data, the qualitative software program Nvivo8 was used. The results showed that immigrant women and their Korean spouses experienced confusion at first. They struggled adapting to each other’s lifestyles and made efforts to establish harmony. In the end, they made their own family identity as a multicultural family. The study widens the understanding of multicultural families by focusing on both wives and husbands. Also, the use of the Nvivo8 software strengthens the reliability of the data analysis. The results will contribute to providing interracial couples with the adaptive strategies.

This study is aimed at proposing and managing a program to foster married immigrant women who have bilingual-bicultural abilities. Four stages of research processes were followed. Firstly, bilingual teacher training was contemplated field experience and preceding research. Secondly, specialist groups reviewed and verified considerations of content validity. Thirdly, seventeen valid participants were selected and they worked on programs of ten sessions. Fourthly, the effectiveness of the program was verified through a survey of satisfaction. This study has its significance as a program that reflects the theory and reality to establish their identity reinforce the capability and arouse the multi-cultural consciousness.

성인 자녀의 부모 사별 경험에 대한 연구

This research is intended to examine adult childrens experiences with parental bereavement and the effect of the experiences on family relationships and their lives. In order to describe the subjects experiences as they are and understand their meaning and essence, data was analyzed using the Colaizzi method, an approach to phenomenology as a qualitative research methods. The findings showed that subjects suffered from the loss of parents; however, they recovered from their conditions after an ancestor worshiping service. In addition, they took heavy responsibility for a survived parent after bereavement and experienced changes in the roles of family members. In conclusion, experience with parental bereavement caused adult children to reflect on themselves, to discuss the essence of life, and to change the attitudes of their life from a future-oriented perspective to a here-and-now perspective.

북한이탈주민의 사회적차별 경험이 사회적응에 미치는 영향

본 연구의 목적은 북한이탈주민의 사회적차별 경험이 사회적응에 미치는 영향에서 자아존중감의 매개효과를 검증하는데 있다. 이를 위해 서울시에 거주하고 있는 북한이탈주민 246명에게 설문조사하였고, 이를 토대로 기술통계분석, 상관분석, 다중회귀분석, 매개효과 검증을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 북한이탈주민의 사회적 차별경험은 사회적응에 부정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자아존중감이 사회적 차별과 사회적응간의 관계에서 매개효과가 있음을 검증하였다. 이러한 연구결과들을 근거로 다문화이해교육에 대한 범주와 생애주기별 자아존중감 향상 프로그램의 실천적 함의를 제안하였다. The objective of the current study is to verify the mediating effect of self-esteem in the influence of social discrimination experienced by North Korean defectors in their social adaptation. To achieve this end, a survey was conducted on 246 North Korean defectors living in Seoul, Korea, whose results were used to execute descriptive statistic analysis, correlation analysis, and mediating effect verification. The study reveals that first, the social discrimination experienced by North Korean defectors negatively impacts their social adaptation. Second, self-esteem is found to have a mediating effect in the relationship between social discrimination and social adaptation. Based on these results, the current study proposes categories of education to enhance multicultural understanding, as well as practical programs to improve self-esteem of North Korean defectors in various stages of their lives.

여성결혼이민자들의 다문화강사양성과정 교육경험에 관한 연구

본 연구는 결혼이주여성들을 대상으로 이들의 인적ㆍ문화적 자원을 활용한 취업지원책의 일환인 다문화강사양성을 심층 분석하여 다문화강사양성과정에 대한 개선방안을 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 다문화강사 양성 수료자 8명, 과정생 3명, 담당실무자 4명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하였다. 면접은 문헌연구를 토대로 질문내용을 반구조화 하여 실시하였으며, 다양한 질적연구의 방법 중 사례연구방법을 선정하였다. 면접은 1회시 평균 2시간 정도가 소요되었으며, 4차 면접까지 진행하였다. 각각의 면접은 모두 녹음되었고, 전사하였다. 또한, 연구참여에 대한 동의 및 연구윤리규정을 따랐다. 연구결과 26개의 의미단위를 거쳐 9개의 하위범주를 통합하여 3개의 주제가 도출되었다. 구체적으로, 연구 참여자들은 경제적 자립과 자기성취를 위해 다문화강사에 도전하고, 강사활동과 양성과정에 참여하면서 성취감을 느끼지만 내적갈등을 경험하는 양가적 감정을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 이들은 양성과정 교육경험에 대하여 긍정적 만족감을 표현하지만, 개인적, 경제적, 정책적 요인들로 인한 어려움을 호소하였다. 이를 종합하여 여성결혼이민자들을 위한 다문화강사양성과정의 개선방안으로 다음을 도출할 수 있었다. 첫째, 양성과정 수료 후의 안정적인 일자리 발굴이 필요하다. 둘째, 체계적인 다문화강사 양성과정의 구축을 위해 중장기 지원정책을 수립할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 다문화교육의 이중구조와 다발적 지원 사업을 방지하기 위해 공통 프로그램과 특성화된 프로그램의 조화가 필요하다. This study would deduct improvement plan for multicultural training courses by doing an in-depth analysis of multicultural teachers training courses which is a part of support measures to get a job by using human and cultural resources targeting marriage immigrant women. For this, in-depth interviews were conducted targeting 8 women who completed the multicultural teacher training courses, three trainees and four hands-on staffs. The interviews were conducted by semi-structuring contents of questions on the basis of literature research and the case study method was selected among various qualitative research methods. The interview took about average two hours once and the fourth interviews were conducted. Each interview was recorded and transcribed. In addition, it was followed agreement for research participation and code of research ethics. As results of research, three themes were deducted by integrating 9 subcategories by passing through 26 meaningful units. Concretely, research participants challenge to multicultural teachers for economic independent and self-achievement and feel sense of accomplishment during teaching activities and training courses but experience inner conflicts and have ambivalent feelings. They express positive feeling of satisfaction for the educational experience during training courses, but appeal for difficulties due to individual, economical and political factors. Taken together, as an improvement plan for multicultural teacher training courses of marriage immigrant women, it was deducted as follows: First, a steady support method is required through fixed pay. Second, it is required to establish mediumand long-term support to establish multicultural teacher training courses systematically. Third, it is required specialized program to prevent dual structure and multiple support projects of multicultural education.

Background: A cream made from mucus secreted by snails contains 80% mucin, as well as glycosaminoglycan, allantoin for skin rejuvenation, glycolic acid for keratin removal, and collagen and elastin, which are components of dermis. Objective: The goal of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of using cream containing mucus secreted by snails to reduce wrinkles, improve skin elasticity, restore dermal density, and lift the skin. Methods: Cream containing mucus secreted by snails was applied to the lateral epicanthal areas and the left cheek of 10 subjects for 4 weeks twice per day. Wrinkles, skin elasticity, dermal density, and skin tightening were evaluated at baseline and 2 and 4 weeks. A patient survey was conducted at 4 weeks. Results: There were statistically significant differences between baseline and 4 weeks after applying the cream in terms of wrinkles, skin elasticity, dermal density, and skin tightening (p<0.05). Conclusion: Use of cream containing mucus secreted by snails seems to be effective for anti-aging of the skin. Long term follow up studies, such as 3 or 6 months, to confirm the efficacy of the cream should be conducted involving a larger number of patients. (Korean J Dermatol 2015;53(6):430∼436)
