Various seals are widely used to prevent leakage of lubricant or working fluid and ingression of foreign particles into system. In this study, a PTFE coaxial seal is modeled to investigated the deformation and flow characteristics with the surface shape of slipper seal by using a commercial CFD (Computational fluid Dynamics) code, FLUENT and a nonlinear problem solver, MARC. When grooves are designed in the slipper seal a large vortex which can be acts as filter is generated in each of the grooves. And the friction force acting on seal surface is greatly reduced. Therefore the present numerical method can be applied in optimal design of various coaxial seals adopted in hydraulic cylinder for high pressure, and further studies are required.
