Purpose: Dandy-Walker syndrome is a rare congenital brain malformation that occurs one in every 25,000-35,000 live births, mostly in females. It is characterized by cystic enlargement of the fourth ventricle, agenesis or hypogenesis of the cerebellar vermis and enlargement of the posterior fossa. In this report, the authors aimed to address a rare case of a 14-months-old female Dandy-Walker syndrome patient that is presented with submucous cleft palate. Methods: A 14-months-old female patient admitted to our outpatient clinic, via the department of pediatrics, with the complaints of nasal regurgitation, choking and breathing difficulties. She was diagnosed as Dandy-Walker syndrome by magnetic resonance imaging evaluation, at another hospital and underwent a shunt operation for the hydrocephalus continuing treatments. On physical examination, she had structural abnormality of bifid uvula, and palpable notch in the posterior surface of the hard palate. Her submucous cleft palate was corrected, which used a double opposing Z-plasty under general anesthesia. Results: In a follow-up period of 2 months, no complications, such as wound dehiscence, necrosis and infection occurred, which shows satisfactory results. She consulted with pediatric neurologists and physical therapists for further evaluation and management of the abnormalities in the central nervous system. Conclusion: Dandy-Walker syndrome patient with a cleft palate is a very rare case to find, which only a few cases are reported around the world. Authors would like to share this case of Dandy-Walker syndrome patient, with submucous cleft palate, who underwent a double opposing Z-plasty that shows satisfactory results.
종양 억제 인자, Merlin의 FERM 도메인과 C-말단 도메인간의 결합

A tumor suppressor, merlin is a member of ERM family proteins. It consists of N-terminal FERM domain, ${\alpha}-helical$ region, and C-terminal domain. Alternative splicing of merlin's mRNA generates two isotypes of merlin. Isotype I, which has exon17 at the C-terminus instead of exon16 in isotype II, is known to have tumor suppressor activity. Like other ERM proteins, the C-terminal domain of merlin isotype I interacts to its FERM domain. That of isotype II, however, was reported not to bind FERM domain despite the large common part of C-terminal domain, which possibly binds FERM domain. Here, we show the binding of FERM domain to both C-terminal domains of merlin's two isotypes by isothermal titration calorimetry. These results support that merlin isotype II also can form a closed conformation or a multimer by intramolecular or intermolecular interactions using their FERM domain and C-terminal domain.

The purpose of this experimental study is to find out the best CO₂ laser cutting conditions of SHP1 which are mostly used in welding shop in the technical high school through analyzing the cut surface roughness according to CO₂ laser cutting conditions. The main results from this study are as follows: (1) While cutting velocity and gas pressure were changed, power was constant, the finest value of surface roughness of 4.0㎛ was attained at cutting velocity of 1.5m/min-2.0m/min and gas pressure of 1bar. (2) While power and cutting velocity were changed, gas pressure was constant, the finest value of surface roughness of 4.0㎛ was obtained at cutting velocity of 1.5m/min-2.0m/min and power of 300W. (3) While power and gas pressure were changed, cutting velocity was constant, the finest value of surface roughness of 4.0㎛ was made at power of 300W and gas pressure of 1bar.

본 논문에서는 두 개의 단백질 분자가 결합하여 복합체를 구성할 때, 두 분자 간의 접촉 영역을 발견하여 3차원 공간에서 가시화하는 방법을 제시한다. 두 분자 간의 접촉 영역은 기하학적인 측면에서 서로 상보성을 보이며, 상보적인 결합의 크기를 나타내기 위한 방법으로 접촉 영 역의 면적을 계산하는 방법이 주로 사용되어 왔다. 접촉 영역의 면적을 수치화한 결과와 접촉 영역의 단순 표시는 서로 다른 접촉 영역에 대해 상대적인 결합 강도를 비교하기에는 적합하지만, 접촉 영역이 가진 기하학적인 특성을 분석하기에는 부적합하다. 본 논문에서는 접촉 영역에서 상보성을 표시하기 위해 상대 분자와의 거리 정보를 가시화하는 방법을 제시한다. In this paper, we present a method to visualize the contact region between two molecules in a protein complex in a threedimensional space. The contact region of two molecules shows compatibility in geometric aspects. Usually, the computation of the area of contact region has been used to show the strength of compatibility. The numerical value and simple drawing of contact region would be useful for comparing the relative strength of different contacts, but it is not appropriate for analysing the geometric characteristics of the contact region. In this paper, we present a method to show the compatibility between two molecules by visualizing the distance information between them.
