A procedure for the simulation of the cutting force for face milling which is one of the most widely used multi-tooth cutting types is described. Based on physical phenomina of a cutting process, the basic cutting force model is derived, using the three emperical constants and the chip cross-section. The initial position errors of the inserts and the eccentricity of the spindle are taken into consideration as the major factors affecting the variation of the chip coss-section. The emperical constants used in force model are determined from the measured mean forces. The simulated forces are subsequently compared to measured forces in time and frequency domains.

There are many factors in machine tool error. These are thermal deformation, geometric error, machine's part assembly error, error caused by tool bending. Among them thermal error is 70% of total error of machine tool. Prediction of thermal error is very difficult. because of nonlinear tendency of machine tool deformation. In this study, we tried thermal error prediction by using multi regression analysis.

This paper developed cutting force model under the considerations of the flank wear of milling insert and all physical effects in milling operation. The simulated and measured abnormal cutting forces resulted from flank wear are compared with normal cutting forces and analized in time and frequency domains. The results of analysed abnormal cutting forces in frequency domain were applied to tool condition monitoring by pattern recognition technique. As components of pattern vectors to chech flank wear, the following three items are taken; ① the total power of the spectrum. ② the power of the highest peak. ③ the frequency of the highest peak in the spectrum.

Production of file and die required quenching, which naturally makes shape distortion on the several cross-section of the material. For the experimental model among the various cross-sections, the cross-section of test-pieces which have the geometric surface of equi-lateral trapezoid and segment are used. After giving another various geometric change on length, width and height, those test-pieces were quenched. The results are as follows; (1) Shape distortion curve could be represented by curvature in quenched test-pieces with symmetry cross-section, and the curvature is considered to be decided upon the material and cross-section. (2) The curvature on the test-pieces which are given the geometric change on height after fixing a certain base of equi-lateral trapezoid is considered to be ?? where M and N; constant, W; width(mm), h; height(mm), (3) Curvature on the segment or equi-lateral trapezoid with same height cross-section test-pieces is inversely proportional to the square width, and the constat number is considered to be decided upon the height.

본 연구에서는 기존의 정절삭력 모델을 이용하여 절삭과정에서 발생되는 동적 인 특성과 공작기계의 구조적인 특성이 상호작용되어 발생되는 절삭력 변동성분들이 고려된 절삭력 모델 즉 동절삭력 모델을 개발하여서 이 모델로부터 예측된 절삭력과 절삭실험 결과를 비교, 분석하여 제시한 모델의 타당성 및 동절삭력 특성을 검토하고 자 한다. The vibratory modal for the face milling operation is assumed as a multi degrees of freedom system. The parameters of the system are determined based on the cutting experiment. From the relative displacements of this system the dynamic cutting forces were derived and simulated by the double modulation principle. The simulated cutting forces and measured cutting forces have a good agreement in time and frequency domains.

The shape distortion problem which is caused in quenching the trapezoidal cross-sectioned tool steel was investigated. Using the computed results finite element method and those of the experiment are shown as follows: 1. The computed results show such similar value to the experimental can be easily expected according to the computed result. 2. In case of different cross-sectioned tool steel, its value of shape distortion decreases rapidly and its residual stresses increase as the cross-section area increases. 3. In quenching steel, its cooling rate becomes a little decreased on account of its transformation heat in the temperature of martensitic transformation.

In this paper, drill shape and cutting conditions for environmentally conscious dry drilling of A319 Al-alloy are studied by experimental method. The experiment is planned with Taguchi's method that is based on the orthogonal array of design factors. The result is summarized as follows; (1) Drill geometry optimization can increase the number of holes in dry' drilling, and also large helix angle and large point angle are desirable in dry drilling. (2) It is found that cutting conditions, that is, cutting speed and feed rate are closely related to the drill geometry. (3) For dry drilling of Al-alloys, drill shape and cutting conditions are selected and tested by experimental method. But it is found that the perfect dry drilling is difficult because of the machining characteristics of Al-alloys, and so new machining method such as minimal lubricant application is required.
