Time Trends of Ovarian Cancer Incidence in China
Wang, Bing,Liu, Shu-Zheng,Zheng, Rong-Shou,Zhang, Fang,Chen, Wan-Qing,Sun, Xi-Bin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.1
The aim of this study was to examine the trend of ovary cancer incidence from 1999 to 2010 in China and predict the burden up to 2020. Crude incidence, age specific incidence and age-adjusted incidence rates were calculated. Joinpoint regression was performed to obtain estimated annual percentages and Bayesian age-period-cohort modeling was used to predict the incidence rate until the year 2020. In China, the crude rate of ovary cancer was 7.91/100,000 and the age-adjusted rate was 5.35/100,000 overall during period 1999-2010. The rates in urban regions were higher than in rural regions. A significant rising trend during 1999-2006 was followed by a drop during 2006-2010 in age-adjusted rates for urban females. In contrast, constant rise was observed in rural women. The decrease in ovary cancer of urban areas tended to be restricted to women aged 50 years and younger. In contrast, increases of ovary cancer in rural areas appeared in virtually all age groups. Although the age-adjusted incidence rate for ovary cancer was predicted to be reduced after year 2011, the crude rate was likely to be relative stable up to 2020. The burden of ovary cancer in China will continue to be relative stable due to the aging population.
Effect of Metabolic Structures and Energy Requirements on Curdlan Production by Alcaligenes faecalis
Zheng, Zhi-Yong,Lee, Jin-Woo,Zhan, Xiao Bei,Shi, Zhongping,Wang, Lei,Zhu, Li,Wu, Jian-Rong,Lin, Chi Chung Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineerin 2007 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.12 No.4
A comprehensive metabolic network was proposed for Alcaligenes faecalis and employed in a stoichiometrically based flux balance model for curdlan production optimization. The maximal yield of curdlan was evaluated for curdlan batch production. Various metabolic structures and metabolic pathway distributions related with the curdlan maximal yield was evaluated. The results showed that the energy efficiency rather than the substrate supply was the major constraint for the enhancement of curdlan production. The increase in specific rate of glucose uptake could enhance curdlan production yield due to the decrease of the ratio of metabolic maintenance to substrate consumption. However, some of the energy loss and nutrient limitation associated with the increase of metabolic maintenance would adversely affect the conversion efficiency of the substrate.

Rong Li,Ming-Yang Ju,Bin Chen,Qing-Yuan Sun,Guo-Liang Chen,Mei Shi,Xiao-Gang Wang,Jian-Bin Zheng 대한화학회 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.2
An aminocarboxy aspartic acid-bonded silica (Asp-Silica) stationary phase was synthesized using L-aspartic acid as ligand and silica gel as matrix. The standard protein mixtures were separated with prepared chromatographic column. The effects of solution pH, salt concentration and metal ion on the retention of proteins were examined, and also compared with traditional iminodiacetic acid-bonded silica (IDA-Silica) column. The results show that Asp-Silica column exhibited an excellent separation performance for proteins. The retention of proteins on Asp-Silica stationary phase was consistent with electrostatic characteristic of cation-exchange. The stationary phase displayed typical metal chelate property after fixing copper ion (II) on Asp-Silica. Under competitive eluting condition, protein mixtures were effectively isolated. Asp ligand showed better ion-exchange and metal chelating properties as compared with IDA ligand.

Multiobjective Decision-Making applied to Ship Optimal Design
Wang, Li-Zheng,Xi, Rong-Fei,Bao, Cong-Xi The Society of Naval Architects of Korea 2001 Journal of ship and ocean technology Vol.5 No.1
Ship optimal design is a multi-objective decision-making process and its optimal solution does not exit in general. It is a problem in which the decision-maker is very interested that an effective solution is how to be found which has good characteristic and is substituted for optimal solution in a sense. In the previous methods of multi-objective decision-making, the weighting coefficients are decided from the point of view of individuals which have a bit sub-jective an unilateral behavior. in order to fairly and objectively decide the weighting coeffi-cients, which are considered to be optimal in all system of multi-objective decision-making and satisfactory solution to the decision-maker, the pater presents a method of applying the Technology of the Biggest Entropy. It is proved that the method described in the paper is very feasible and effective be means of a practical example of ship optimal design.

Rong Li,Yan Wang,Guo-Liang Chen,Mei Shi,Xiao-Gang Wang,Jian-Bin Zheng 대한화학회 2010 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.31 No.8
To improve the separation property and stability of metal chelate Cu(II) column, three new kinds of multidentate aminocarboxy silica columns with cation-exchange properties were synthesized using glutamic acid (Glu), glutamic acidbromoacetic acid (Glu-BAA), glutamic acid-bromosuccinic acid (Glu-BSUA) as ligands and silica gel as matrix. The standard proteins were separated with prepared chromatographic columns. The stationary phases exhibited the metal chelate property after fixing copper ion (II) on the synthesized multidentate ligand silica columns. The binding capacity of immobilized metal ion was related with the dentate number of multidentate ligands. Chromatographic behavior of proteins and the leakage of immobilized metal ion on multidentate chelate Cu(II) columns were affected by the dentate number of multidentate ligands and competitive elution system directly. The results showed that quinquedentate Glu-BSUA-Cu(II) column exhibited better chromatographic property and stability as compared with tridentate Glu-Cu(II) column, tetradentate Glu-BAA-Cu(II) column and commonly used IDA-Cu(II) column.

After transplantation, hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) sustain blood cell regeneration throughout the patient’s life. Recent studies suggest that several types of mature blood cells provide feedback signals to regulate HSC fate. However, the potential feedback effect of hematopoietic progenitor cells has not been characterized to date. The present investigation demonstrated that multipotent progenitors (MPPs) promoted T cell production of HSCs when both cell types were cotransplanted in mice. Using genetic barcodes to track individual HSCs in mice, we found that the increased T cell production by HSCs was associated with the combined effects of altered lineage bias and clonal expansion during HSC differentiation. We showed that MPP and HSC co-transplantation promoted the multilineage differentiation of HSCs in the short term while preserving lymphoid-specialized HSC differentiation in the long term. Our findings indicate that MPPs derived from HSCs regulate the fate of HSCs after bone marrow transplantation.

Tyrosinase inhibitors are clinically effective for treating some dermatological disorders related to melanin hyperpigmentation. Accordingly, the discovery and development of tyrosinase inhibitors have great value in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. Here, a novel tyrosinase inhibitor, 6′-O-cinnamoyl-helicid (helicid cinnamylate) was successfully synthesized by a simple and effective biocatalytic approach with Aspergillus oryzae cells. Investigation of the effects of several key variables on helicid cinnamylate synthesis found that the reaction conversion, reaction rate and regioselectivity reached 99%, 9.40 mM/h and > 99%, respectively, at the optimal conditions with anhydrous acetone as the solvent, whole-cell concentration of 40 mg/mL, and the molar ratio of vinyl cinnamate to helicid of 10 at 45°C. The whole-cells retained 68.87% of its initial activity after reusing for seven batches, indicating a potent application potential in non-aqueous biocatalytic systems. It was worth noting that helicid cinnamylate demonstrated a more potent tyrosinase inhibitory activity with an IC50 value of 3.55 mM than helicid (IC50 = 4.48 mM) and arbutin (IC50 = 5.48 mM), which suggest that helicid cinnamylate could be developed as a more potential tyrosinase inhibitor. In conclusion, this study provides a novel whole-cell catalytic approach for the synthesis of helicid cinnamylate and insight into its application as a tyrosinase inhibitor.

Holstein cow ovaries obtained at a slaughterhouse were used to study the influence of the oocyte collection methods (slicing, puncture, aspiration I and II) on recovery efficiency and subsequent in vitro maturation and embryonic development competence of immature oocytes recovered. In the slicing method, the whole ovarian was chopped into small pieces with a surgical blade. In the puncture method, the whole ovarian surface was punctured by 18-g needle. In other 2 aspiration methods, collected oocytes by aspirating from the visible follicles using an 18-g needle attached to a 5 ml syringe (aspiration I) or using a constant negetive pressure (-80 mmHg) with a vacuum pump (aspiration II). The oocytes were classified into 4 classes on the basis of the morphology of cumulus cells and cytoplasmic appearance of oocyte. Slicing ($9.6{\pm}0.4$) and puncture ($9.7{\pm}0.4$)yielded a larger number of oocytes per ovary than other two aspiration methods (aspiration I and II were $5.8{\pm}0.3$and $5.6{\pm}0.4$, respectively) (p<0.05). The number of the highest quality oocytes (grade A) per ovary was significantly higher in slicing ($4.2{\pm}0.2$) and puncture ($4.6{\pm}0.1$) methods than in other methods (aspiration I and II were $1.2{\pm}0.2$ and $1.4{\pm}0.2$, respectively) (p<0.05). The rate of nuclear maturation of the highest and higher quality oocytes (grade A and grade B, respectively) was not affected by the oocytes collection methods. The oocytes collection methods also did not influence subsequent embryonic developmental competence after in vitro fertilization with M II stage oocytes. It is concluded that slicing and puncture methods of the ovaries can be used as an alternative techniques to aspiration by the syringe or vacuum pump.
A multi-strategy enhanced African vultures optimization algorithm for global optimization problems
Zheng Rong,Hussien Abdelazim G,Qaddoura Raneem,Jia Heming,Abualigah Laith,Wang Shuang,Saber Abeer 한국CDE학회 2023 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.10 No.1
The African vultures optimization algorithm (AVOA) is a recently proposed metaheuristic inspired by the African vultures’ behaviors. Though the basic AVOA performs very well for most optimization problems, it still suffers from the shortcomings of slow convergence rate and local optimal stagnation when solving complex optimization tasks. Therefore, this study introduces a modified version named enhanced AVOA (EAVOA). The proposed EAVOA uses three different techniques namely representative vulture selection strategy, rotating flight strategy, and selecting accumulation mechanism, respectively, which are developed based on the basic AVOA. The representative vulture selection strategy strikes a good balance between global and local searches. The rotating flight strategy and selecting accumulation mechanism are utilized to improve the quality of the solution. The performance of EAVOA is validated on 23 classical benchmark functions with various types and dimensions and compared to those of nine other state-of-the-art methods according to numerical results and convergence curves. In addition, three real-world engineering design optimization problems are adopted to evaluate the practical applicability of EAVOA. Furthermore, EAVOA has been applied to classify multi-layer perception using XOR and cancer datasets. The experimental results clearly show that the EAVOA has superiority over other methods.
